Hey all, just saw this topic drop off the recent list so i thought I'd bring it back up. My wife and I will be heading out to the show from Columbus Ohio. We have a 4 1/2 hour flight stright thru and are supposed to be there Thursday night. The missus is not into the whole sign gig that much but she couldnt turn down the chance to come out (first time). I know I'm a newbie but maybe I'll get a chance to start matching mugs with names. Anyone interested in arranging a little partay?

Got a bunch of time sensitive projects in play that might make 3+ days out of town a bad idea... will be playing it by ear and book the week before, if I'm able to go.

When birds fly over you do you hear "Cheap Cheap?" :P

I know how it is, having family and business always makes it harder to get away where you wanna go and how long you wanna be gone for.

*cough* it takes some work to keep her in check!

I'll be there Friday about noon. Staying at the Luxor. Would like to put some faces with all the names on this board if possible. Also - Are there any events that are geared toward tube benders. Just wandering if any of the big companies were putting anything on. Voltarc - EGL ect.

See ya there,

Brad

I sure hope so brad, I really do. If not it's a even bigger "Sign" (No pun intended) that the neon side of the industry is going to shit and becoming more and more unorganized and in disarray.

I see a LARGER and much Stronger organization with Pin Strippers, Sign Painters, Vinyl Jockeys and LED manufacturer's than I have ever seen in neon manufacturer's, fabricator's and installer's.

In my very short young, still cocooned 14 year career I have yet to see any real organization, am I missing something here? Am I on the wrong side of the garden? I haven't seen it online hence the reason why I started this site for the electrical aspect. I've been to a few conventions and a few boards and up to know I've been pretty disappointed in the lack of communication.

I hope this view of mine can change after Vegas.

Last time in Vegas there was a great party at Casino lighting, I was there for a while and unfortunately I was forced to leave that one for a dive. I do not know of any this year but one can be set up at a casino for a big get together, get drunk kind of thing. In Atlantic city theres a good party at a local shop every December.

I think one of the major problems is that someone has to open thier shop at night, assume the insurance possibilities and lock everything up. If anyone has any ideas i'll be glad to help out as much as I can. Joe from Tecnolux is usually on top of these things.

From my phone conversation with him about a month ago or longer, he stated nothing was going on this year.

You know what it is, there seems to be a lack of a core. I'm speaking in "online" terms, which is the new age of communication now, from here on out. I see the neon list which seems to have about 10 or so regular posters and here too, the "Neon Forum" has sadly turned into a ghost town and I'll see speratic posts here and there in SW but mostly peeps selling their neon plants....and that is it!

I gave off a thing of Mark's electrode samples to a friend of mine, and we were talking about his plant and a manifold he needed repaired and I "splained" this site to him and he said optimistic about it. But has he been here or called Mark, I doubt it. I've kinda explained this site to a few locally who I see now and then and well, I don't see them. But! If I were in a different part of this trade and I ran into a newbie that person would be here in a split second. I don't get it

I'll try and find a location at Mandaley Bay or Excalibur at around 5-6pm (Friday) in a bar or restaurant, something open and not confined. If anyone wants to meet up and place a face with a name type deal. I figure that might be a good time, it's around almost din din and before I go get my groove on somewhere :yahoo: It's about the time Kgirl and I can have a few drinks with appetizers and people watch anyway

There is a mexican joint on the second level at the Luxor that may be an ideal spot to meet on Friday or the Burger bar in between the Luxor and Mandalay Bay is also a nice spot...? :beerparty: You have to walk right by the Burger bar on your way back from the convention center to both Luxor and Ex...they have killer burgers and the scenery is nice as well :sml (29):

Also, any poker people up for a game? The Luxor will accomodate a private table if we can get 10 people...let me know and I will set it up.

    • 1st of all while its great to use as an excuse. I am not sure as what I would like to consider myself a legitimate business that excuse to not pay does not fly. I cant use that excuse with Grimco, Glantz aluminum suppliers , Ford , the bank.   Hmmm I will just have to put on my big boy pants and get into the line of credit.  Our large signs we are using our money for 60-90 days by the time the project starts through delivery then getting paid.    Besides what if they never get paid. Nope sorry thats not how this works.
    • Paul;   Your statement   " When I asked why would anyone want to work with your company knowing that you do not pay until you are paid ? I also asked how do we know if you are paid or not paid from your customer ? "   You are exactly on point. How the hell do I know for sure when you have been paid? This comes after being so stupid that I would agree to be paid when paid in the first place.   I just received a query from "FacilitySource" to become a contractor. They have just been consumed by CBRE (Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis), a large player in the real estate/ real estate management area. I received a solicitation sheet from them and I won't even insult the intelligence of those on this venue by posting it.   The response section was very definite but the payment portion was somewhere out in the Cosmos. You could  be  paid only if they got paid and then pay you at some mysterious date in the future. They had a list of discounts that they wanted to take under circumstances that were totally unverifiable. You also had to sign away all rights as a contractor while shielding them from everything. Incredible............   But if I were to sign this nonsense, I would be getting exactly what I deserve.   Just for the record, they intimated that they wanted me to provide service to Lowe's, along with some other familiar major accounts in my area.   I politely refused the offer but thought to myself that if a person made me an offer like this to my face I would have dispensed justice with a broken car antenna right on the spot.   Peace out!
    • Here is a " National " Maintenance Co that sent me a request to work for them. I read their contract and it included payment statements stating they will only pay their contractors if they get paid by their customers. Also included was a Hold Harmless Insurance Policy covering everyone  And no legal actions can be taken against the National or the end customer  Plus a lot of other nonsense    When I asked why would anyone want to work with your company knowing that you do not pay until you are paid ? I also asked how do we know if you are paid or not paid from your customer ? Here is the answer sent to me                  Hello,   I will take you out of our system. The only reason we wait until the client pays us ( like every other maintenance company that isn’t upfront with you about it ) is because we are nationwide and all through Canada. If we paid every technician before getting paid we would be out of business. That would be millions we would have to lay out.   Thank you!   Dominique DiPalo Vendor Relations RKB Maintenance Solutions 330 Motor Parkway, Suite 306 Hauppauge, NY 11788 P:  516-612-7821 x 413| F: 516-706-1393 E:  DDiPalo@rkb247.com | W: www.rkb247.com
