President Obama Visits Gelberg Signs

Not sure how I would feel as a business owner if the socialist policy President showing up to my place of work.

However ISA our largest trade association could do nothing more than climax at the thought.

International Sign Assn. president Lori Anderson said, “President Obama and his administration are to be commended for recognizing the vital role played by sign manufacturers in our nation’s economic recovery, as well as for providing them with the tools needed to bring their innovation, creativity and manufacturing expertise to the forefront of the battle to create new jobs in America.”

She continued, “Visible and effective, on-premise signs drive over 40% of all small-business, retail traffic, and can make the different between success and failure with start-up companies.”

I wonder if anyone from ISA fainted?

Uhhh, what tools were we provided with by this President? Lori is ethier hallucinating in her thought process, or she's making a BS statement "just" to make one because it involves the President visiting a sign company and somehow it involves or makes a positive push for OUR industry.

I do know I would have been bold enough to strap it on and ask about unemployment, tax increase for small business, the ridiculous environmental regulations, Obama HEALTH CARE!!!!

Or, "Why are WE, as tax payers, paying for his wifes vacation with forty friends in Spain staying at a 5 star resort, flown over by Airforce 2 along with 60 SS agents. Nice of them to tell US as a people to "tighten our belts", but they lavish their lives with money that is not theirs all because they think it is OWED to them.

The heads of ISA can gush & orgasm all over him agreeing with every decision this mobster makes, all they want. We already know from a few statements coming from ISA they Want a bigger controlling government too so they can create their own programs and Webinars to help better assimilate the little sheep sign people just how to better understand what a few beauracrats want or demand rather than taking up the good fight.

Well, that's just me. This is what happens when the HQ of a association is too close too DC I suppose.

I'm 52 years old. If he gets re-elected, I'm probably screwed because my life will be over before things get turned around. My business has held up well, but I don't know if it could stand another 4 years. Atleast not at the pace I want for it too in order for me to retire at 65 with enough in the bank to live like I had planned. Cat food gets old after a while.

It would be cool to have him show up to a certain point.

How does a company secure (2) government loans??

Definately would have had him pin his tie to his shirt, isnt that a hazzard in a manufacturing facility?

One thing for sure is that I can certainly see the reason for him taking a Helicopter to the shop. The shop is located in DC where he is.

GOOD things happen for a reason......

My boss says in his 42 years he hasn't seen it get this slow, not just us but everything else around us.  He has no love for that man.  Nor do I for that matter

So in your opinion Obama is solely to blame for biz being slow... that things went from great to bad when he took office?

Blaming current circumstances on the President of the United States is like blaming the BP Chairman for the Gulf oil disaster (that one you can blame on the Bush administration). I don't like to see such political mudraking in what is a sign forum. Hey, the President visited a sign shop and talked about creating jobs. Get over it. Stop finding blame in someone that's at least trying to make things better for Americans. After all, what have you offered in your dialogue here that contributes anything positive to our country. Frankly, I find it unpatriotic and derisive (tools, btw, that the socialists are adept at using to undermine governments). Maybe that's why we're in the doldrums - it's far easier to grouse about how bad things are than it is to make them better through hard work and perseverance.

I don't usually like to engage about politics outside the sign industry on this board, it's sort of like bringing up politics at a family gathering. But since the ISA openly praised the president for something which he hasn't done, and IMO has done quite the opposite, well then that's fair game.

What I see him "trying" to do is undermine the very fabric this country was founded on, and it starts with the simple individual liberties and works it's way down. Let's throw out a fact about this man, he's the most inexperienced individual in EVERY meeting room he walks into. He's never even had a job. Now he's running our country the way HE wants to, despite the American people.

In all honesty I'm glad this man is president, America needs the wake up call, she'll be better off for it on what lays ahead. We'll have to endure a few years of hell which will seem like a blink of an eye as far as history looks back. The after thought will be,"how did it happen, how did they let it happen?". I've never heard a President go offshore and apologize for being who we are and being a super power. It disgusts me.

Interesting though that you find my comments "Unpatriotic" and asking "What have I contributed that is positive?"

Being critical and VOICING my opinion even though it comes across as negative about the Administration is still positive, ESPECIALLY about the praise from ISA about the "Tools" he's given us. We're supposed to go along with our industry leadership and be mindless ninnies? I/We should "get over it"?? Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all (Words of wisdom for politicians), In this case it was something said. I don't know why ISA felt obligated to say anything at all about the President, unless of course their ideology is one of the same.

I suppose the Tea Parties, or the angry town hall meeting folks are "Unpatriotic" too?

So besides this administration making the government larger, taking over GM, strong arming BP, bribing congressmen to vote for a health care bill that goes against the will of the people, push for cap and trade, etc etc etc. What has this administration accomplished that is good for America?

Reality is, were not going to sway or change any minds here about US politics. But, when it comes to our Glorious Sacred Trade, we'll always "call out" our industry leadership on decisions they make, good or bad. Don't know anywhere else where that happens, surely not in a trade magazine *ouch*, I know, low blow.

Anyone that knows me will tell you I'm not one for getting in line or following a crowd, joining a chorus (Except Christmas Caroling), doing the "popular" thing because everyone else is doing it. I always question and ask questions. I'm a skeptic by nature, I trust through verification. I still do have fun at Disneyland though, I can still find the magic in it even though I know it's mechanical, full of props and cardboard backdrops and the characters walking around are only doing so to keep an illusion going. The illusion stays at the park too when I drive off I might add.

Well glad you chimed in, I welcome, and love to listen to opposing views (believe it or not, I try to keep an open mind) it helps to keep the world an interesting place and that's what makes this country great.

So much of our Country and way of life depends on the peoples confidence in the economy and government. Right now, we are at a very low point. The same enthusiasm, that got the current president elected, is causing many of our problems. Candidate Obama and President Obama don't seem to be the same people. People were excited by candidate Obama talking about bipartisanship, being a man of the people, changing Washington ect... Instead, he has shown himself to be just another politician. It is business as usual in the Obama administration. I think people really bought into his speeches (more than they typically do)as a candidate and many have really resented him not governing like he claimed he would as a candidate.

BTW, I did vote for him once. Lesson learned.

I agree but what I am saying is the former administration (REP) was/is just as much to blame for this shit storm as BO. I find it funny when people act like everything was peaches and cream until Obama took over and thing just went to hell. Our tickets for this hell ride were purchased by the BUSH and Obama is now the conductor of the train.

Somebody needs to tell Obama that. Everytime he gets on tv he talks about how it's someone elses fault. I think theres equal blame to go around. The only reason anyone gets into politics is to further them and their contributors, write a book and get on tv. The office they are ellected to is just an afterthought. I have little confidence in any of them Democrat or Republican. I'm leaning Tea Party and I've been a Democrat my whole life. I was very embarrassed by the Democrats in Washington this last year.

I'm no huge Bush fan either, he kept the country safe, did right with the tax cuts which are about to expire and Obama has no desire to reinstate. Bush over spent too, not as bad as Obama right now and both aren't doing shit about the immigration/border issue.

We're now coming to a close on Obama's year 2, Bush is in the rear view mirror and I'm tired of hearing Bush's name even mentioned by this administration to pass the buck. This is Obama's era now and it's time for him to start owning it, and this media to hold him to it (which is a joke in itself).

Geraldi, Tea party is for everyone who's "Sick of it all". There's no head, you would be surprised of who it's composed of, and it's just about getting everyone who's been in office who like to "play along to get along" with the usual DC politics the hell out. Holding those in office accountable. We have never seen a movement so large in our life time, and it's the biggest threat to DC right now. The wonders of social media like My Space and FB. (I'm sure I'm not saying anything new)

Here's something positive, come November it's time to clean house on both sides, send a HUGE message to DC and slowly start to rebuild confidence back in America. Interesting end of the year we will have.

Alright, time to get some work done that pays the bills :P

In my opinion things have gotten to be so bipartisan the point of the conversation above seems to argue and not necessarily to solve the problem.

He is not a true socialist - not at all.

Having lived around the world there are much more socialist societies and things are very very different than the USA - both positive and negative.

What is dissapointing to me is that the innovative, inventive, and creative spirit that was the USA seems to be on hold for now. Let us all remember the days when we were showing the world how to do things and making us the envy of every corner of the planet. My father was head of design for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for 40 years and he designed most of the wings on planes we all fly - now most of that has moved to other countries.

In Detroit - we lead the world in cars - now we are just trying to stay afloat...wait till you see the next wave of imports into the USA... a $600 car!

And I dont care what anyone believes or thinks politically - Obama, Bush, Clinton... can you imagine running a country??? Tough job and whoever does it must be given some respect for trying to fix things. If they dont, well then we vote them out of office. And if we vote someone into office and they are stupid - who is the dumb one in that case?

It is easy to point fingers - harder to go out there and make a change...but a lot more fulfilling!

But that is just my opinion - and I dont vote anymore - cannot complain if I dont vote!
