vinyl removal nightmare

Recommended Posts

So we are working on removing vinyl from a couple of sun beaten acrylic faces with dryed out spider webbed type cracked vinyl. My guys are saying vinyl off, wd40 are not working. Anyone have any magic tips to get this crap off them? Hoping there is something out there like strip-eeze for paint removal that we havent heard of that someone else has.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

any reason you cant replace the panel for the customer? or is is a multi tennant sign where its one biig piece with vinyl dividers? If thats the case we get out the 4" window scrapers and windex and scrape the vinyl. If you get the technique down you wont scratch the plastic

Screw that crap. Been down that road too many times... Labor is more expensive than new substrate. Not to mention the time you'll never get back. We do not remove vinyl from anything, unless it's a glass surface.

I realize my post didn't help you out in any way. Maybe try a 12 gauge shotgun at a 75 degree angle, with a dove load. Or a torch? I suck, still no help.

A heat gun will take it off. You will have to estimate the time involved and see if new faces are a better choice. Are the faces real yellow? You can try the wheel vinyl removers for your drill.

Just make sure you charge accordingly. If a chemical will strip the vinyl off it will ruin the faces also.

as usual it was a case of complain first, work later. the vinyl off and scrapers did the trick...took a little longer then we estimated originally but not bad. we had looked at replacing the panels, but it was more cost effective to spend the time cleaning them.

thanks for the input
