Insurance for sign companies doing vehicle graphics?

Recommended Posts

I recently received a letter from The Hartford that they are NOT renewing my insurance, they claim it's because I do Vehicle Wraps. Well, I don't do vehicle wraps but they just don't care. I do offer cut vinyl on vehicles, but NOT WRAPS. Anyway, I've had The Hartford for 10 years with no issues or claims. I've tried several other commercial insurance companies and they say the same thing - NO VEHICLE GRAPHICS. I could go on & on about the headaches and run around I've been getting - basically I need a new insurance company, do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi Lee,

That is odd.  I've had Hartford for about 18+ years and still have them.  But they have me down under signs & graphics, which is everything from exterior, interior, etc.  Do you do just vehicle graphics or others as well?

Most reasons Insurance Companies drop you are for claims or they are getting out of that type of business

In your case, they may have taken your money all these years and won the prize of no claims.  It is all about making money.
They most likely dont want to take the chance of you making a claim and losing what they made in profit.

In general, Insurance Companies will Insure you as a Vinyl shop, Manufacturer which will cover most everything you do.
If you do not install, or install under 6 ft height. Limited installations,  they will want you as you are low risk.

Install over 6 ft heights, or unlimited heights and you are an accident waiting to happen.

I was with Nationwide for many years, but at renewal time they got a brand new underwriter. I wasn't supposed to see the emails from her to my agent, but he forwarded them to me, possibly by mistake. The new underwriter told my agent that it was very suspicious that I had full coverage on all my trucks, since my financial statement indicated that they were fully depreciated and thus had no value.   I found it difficult to believe that an adult in the business world had no clue what depreciation is.  After I got done laughing, I found another insurance company, which worked out well for me since they were quite a bit less money.

Every time I hear the commercial "Nationwide Is On Your Side", I still get a chuckle

WOW!  Another reason not to cover us??  It's already hard enough to get insurances if you go above 6' - now they want to disqualify & not cover for vehicle wraps?  Glad I haven't had that one thrown at me yet.  I have my insurance with Auto Owners & it just renewed with no issues.  Granted, we don't do a lot of vehicle wraps, but we do some.  It would be interesting to know what the mind set is on that & the reason they changed for that specific process alone.  Because that is such a specific process to pull out of all of the other things you likely do to cherry pick as a reason to not cover you.
