  1. Hi Brian, The best leads for work are former customers. The second best is exposure in your local community. My company belongs to three chambers, two business owner groups, the Elks Lodge, VFW, Marine Corps League, American Legion, DAV, I'm on the board of directors for our local symphony and the S.A.F.E. House. While I give a lot of work away for free, I end up with tens of thousands of dollars of new work each year as a result of belonging and networking with these organizations. The third best is your web site and membership with Sign Search. The last is the yellow pages. I'm currently in four different yellow page books and I'm going to shrink all ads to the smallest possible next year. Dave
  2. Business competency is as important as knowing how to make a sign. One of my competitors called me today asking for help with an .ai file to vectorize it. I felt sorry for him, as he had to go to his Catholic Church to beg for money to pay his propane bill, so I did his sign design. This guy has been in the sign business for more than 15 years! He recently laid off his only employee… his son. I’m going to hire him.
  3. Granted, lots of sign companies are laying off or even going out of business. As for me, things are picking up and January is already twice the revenue of last year. AZ Sign & Graphics, Inc. www.azsignandgraphics.com
  4. We have been using solid-state ballasts for about 3 years and have nothing but problems with them. They are very vulnerable to power spikes from lighting storms. They simply blow-out dead. We have also noticed we cannot mix and match fluorescent tubes. The tubes must be made by the same manufacturer otherwise the output lumens vary dramatically between different manufacturers. We try to avoid solid-state ballasts. Dave Larson AZ Sign & Graphics, Inc.
