  1. Steve, I think we had the same teacher in the same business school. I have never " Not been Paid " by anyone. I have zero collections because of the above business policies. By the way.....I have " repossessed " Church signs right before Holidays , National Chain Restaurants just before Opening Day and placed Liens on National Chains and their Top Management People. No one or Nothing is off limits when they attempt to steal from me. Once they see that you are not fooling around, they always pay. AND DO NOT forget to charge for all the additional time, legal expenses and aggregation. If you remove the signs, they pay additional for that and then to install them again. No Mercy NO Credit Cards on problem Jobs. Credit Cards can be cancelled up to 18 months later and then you are F#$&ed This only happens once every few years when we don't follow our own policy No Deposit means no work, Problems with Deposits means problems with the balance
  2. Lien the property, the store, the guy, his dog, everything and anything he is associated with. Its a lot cheaper then you think. Then go to his existing business and remove your sign, its your property ( depending upon your contract wording ) Go to his new location and tell him you want your money, he robbed you. No difference between him and a thief. Show No Mercy to him. Call all the Town Depts for all permits and violations.......Start the computer up and let the public know
  3. We were called to repair a sign that was not lighting up all the way. This is what we found. YES It is LED Light Bulbs as the customer asked for from the ( other sign company ) Morons who do not belong in this business You get what you pay for..........Stupid people listening to more stupid people
  4. And 75 years later we now have a new Signs of the Times agenda without the .........American Flag and Woman with a Rifle. What a controversial shit storm that would be today by the new administration of Snow flakes and others
  5. Does anyone talk anymore ? Every day I constantly get Emails about jobs. Please send me an estimate for ........1 4 x 8 white sign with 27 black letters on it. Or similar Crap. Even the Nationals send the same nothing info and want pricing. Whats your best price ? No one wants to give a phone number, talk about anything. Just send a price on the unknown. We are all becoming push button morons
  6. We use Number 1 Sign with a side order of Number 13
  7. A good salesperson can sell anything. If they learn this business, they can sell it. Don't expect to find an experienced sign sales person, keep all options open.
  8. S & F Sign Supplies Brooklyn NY 718 399-3333 I buy them all the time, probably have 20 in stock
  9. I looked into the I trying ( Italian ) Trucks.. Not impressed by anything. The problem is service. That's all you need to know I do not know anyone who had or has success with one Stay with the 3 big names........Manitx, Elliot Versalift Spend now and save forever
  10. We have found that as soon as the materials become " Hard or Non Flexing " it is to cold to use.
  11. Very Nice, You get an A + for your work
  12. Very Nice, It is great to have a lot of room to work. Best wishes and success And the 14 year old MultiCam is still working.....A true statement of durability.
  13. Really Great That is a great idea and shows your Company Spirit and pride. 12 Volt or 120 Volts Lighting ? I like the LED Screen hanging off the back of your truck. Showing Christmas or nice hot beach scenes ?
  14. Did you ever think about whats under that new storefront ? This 100 plus year old building got a face lift. A nice finished storefront with nothing behind it.
  15. Sixteen years ago today our lives and life styles changed forever. As a born and raised New Yorker, I see the changes everyday and are reminded of this event everyday. As a former NYC Fireman, I know the reality of that day. 343 NYC Firemen .....37 Port Authority Police Officers.........23 NYC Police Officers and almost 3000 others who just went to work that day This month also marked the 159 Additional NYC Firemen who have given their lives because of the effects from Sept 11th Cancers
  16. All signs were manufactured brand new. Everything is Neon glass, the back lighted red boarder is the only LED The upright is based on an old look neon upright, it was built in 1996 And the flag stays until I'm gone
  17. Treat them as any new customer. Get a deposit and you make your terms with them. That will tell you who they are.
  18. I saw this in NYC Team work in the rain. It does get any better then this
  19. And they probably charged $ 200 to do all the work. It only cost them a can of spray paint. S C O R E ! Another perfect example of you get what you pay for
  20. Obviously human error ! The entire sling and lifting set up was wrong from the start. As soon as it lifted off, the sign flipped and it was to late. Did you see the Real Sign Company truck drive by just before the fall.
  21. It is a sad day for his family, friends and the sign industry... You can not take anything for granted. I'm sure that OSHA will do a complete investigation and find it to be human error. They will post a complete report. It would be interesting to find out if the sign was neon or what type of lighting and voltage Also if they were using Aluminum or Fiberglass Ladders. Or Bucket truck ? There are a lot of questions to be asked and also look at your own safety policy for electrical service
  22. This is a Wilkie Ladder truck. The scaffold had nothing to do with the accident. The scaffold just provided a smooth surface to work from. The most likely reason here is that the hardware failed under the chassis. Weather conditions , snow, rain and road salt rusted away the nuts and bolts here. The New Road Brind Liquid used on the roads today is a death sentence to all steel and aluminum on the trucks. It eats right thru everything. Anything over 8 years old is destroyed. Cleaning this crap off immediately will help preserve your truck. General power washing everything else off is good practice You should be inspecting all your equipment every 3 months for any signs of rust or fatigue. AND yearly Inspections by a Certified Aerial Co.
  23. And he is a great person also, a true nice guy who knows his business
  24. Inventory is a big expensive and time demanding issue. My newest truck was outfitted with over $ 5,000 in tools . I have found thru the years that employees with little to limited tools become tool rich with every tool made. And guess where they got them ? Without identification marks, all tools are the same We run 11 trucks and have found this to be the easiest. All trucks have different colors and color coded tools. Each truck is loaded and ready for anything that arises. We also have a check list of all the required tools, Hammer Drills, HS Drills, Extension Cords and Hand Tools. There is no way to inventory every item. Pick what is worth inventory Ladders are also labeled according to the truck. 10 - 1 10 -2 all the way up . Truck 10, ladder # 2 Color Coding is simple. Paint or Vinyl on everything. Makes it simple to keep tools in the correct truck. ( All the installers also have their own colors for their own tools ) DeWalt tools is coming out with a chip to adhere to any tool. It will come with an App so you can track everything and anything you want. This will be available soon and can be the answer. In the end, you need to be on top of Inventory. Only you will be responsible for the inventory. ___________________________________________________________________________________ We changed our policy 6 years ago so that all the installers have their own tools. We supply all the Electric and some cordless tools, all the common install tools. But everything else is theirs. Our replacement tool cost is almost zero now.
