  1. The Jib is a great back up device, sometimes the priority lifting device. You can't go wrong with a jib. You can build one yourself. Its pretty simple. OR You can buy the complete unit ready to install at STAMM 800 226-5056 ask for John or Mike Also if the jib is installed on the basket, you need to decrease the basket capacity of the jib and load
  2. I Love the sign business, I hate the customers Everyday is a new adventure and a new goal. But its still better then working for some else
  3. What are you trying to service ? You need to tailor your contract to what you can do yourself. Do you have the correct equipment ? Are you ready to fix everything on site in one trip ? Do you have the Licenses to do this work ? Keep your contract very simple. Lots of wording and pages discourages the customer Once you get the sign repaired and 100% lighting, ( Separate Charge ) use the best materials with the best warrantee. After that, you should be collecting the profit. No additional calls means free money Contracts are great if you can collect with out doing a lot of work. Or you can loose your shirt and pants also.
  4. When they can write their name in the snow, then we are all the same. Otherwise its still separate.
  5. You need to really look at your expenses. I bet you you don't clear $ 100. at those rates. On the other side of this......... At your rates, other sign companies look at your pricing and know you don't know what you're doing. Go higher and you will get jobs
  6. Tail light warrantee applies here. I told you LED lights are better, neon would have broke.
  7. Wow...Did you paint this with a rake ? A Did you clean the steel to get off any oils ? B Was the weather to cold when you painted ? C We use Insulux Brand Metal Primer, Benjamin Moore also has a great primer. D We paint everything with a Smooth Roller, not a brush. It gives a much smoother finish. Almost a sprayed effect if your good. There are many paint manufacturers out there that have good metal primers. Unfortunately everyone is going water based. It looks like your paint jelled up and was not mixed or just bad. Ask a steel fabricator near you and see what they use.
  8. Please post the good stuff. The nice and interesting signs that are not the same old same old.
  9. I am sure that we all come across signs like this everywhere. To answer some questions.....Yes the sign was installed and lighting. Hot spots everywhere. Installed into brick with sheet metal screws with no type of anchors. Blue Concrete screws or Silver sheet metal screws, whats the difference, its only a color ? The customer paid for this " Artwork " and thought he got a beautiful legal sign. Why not ? He hired a "Sign Company " Permits and legal requirements are not even thought about or mentioned. The sign construction and guarantees are worthless The customer is into this artwork for a total of ...Sign $ 10,800. and has Nothing. New Sign And Permits.......$ 9,300. Sign Total......$ 20,100. I do not feel sorry for any business who chooses to go with " the Other Sign Company " even when they are clearly told of the rules and regulations. And the Violations ! They see the products and the companies work. Now the customer is educated and paid for his education. He now knows and will tell his friends the lessons learned. There are some "Non Licensed Sign Companies " out there and they do great work. That is not the issue here. My Licensed Electrician friend said...." How hard is it to put stickers on metal ? " My response was...." Hard hard is it to plug in an extension cord " If it was only that simple.
  10. This is a sign ? that was ordered and paid for. Built by a " Sign Company ". Here is the construction. .032 Aluminum returns and backs. All the electrical wiring is speaker wire. And lots of balck electrical tape. The sign was wired thru the wall into a power strip. Yes it was also speaker wire. The electrical tape was wrapped several layers thick to make it waterproof. The LED Lighting,,, the cheapest crap you can find. The grand prize was the installation.....Attached to a brick wall with 1/4 inch x 3 inch sheet metal screws directly into brick, no shields or anything. The more you look at this, the more disgusted you get. The customer paid $ 2,800. for this. The lucky customer received a violation from the City. By the time this was over, the violation and removal cost the customer an additional $ 8,000. The sign was thrown into the garbage. Thank God for LED Lighting and all the suppliers who sell to everyone. No skill, No knowledge. Just great bullshit to sell signs. Hey...its just a sign.
  11. Sports Authority filed Bankruptcy a few days ago
  12. You are 100% correct. We get " Designers and Artists " who can not draw a straight line with a yard stick. Everyone claims to be a graphic designer. With no talent or skills that are any value to the sign industry. Neon, pure gold in todays sign market. We have talented and skilled craftsmen who do excellent work. We do neon everyday and continue to get calls for repairs and new signs and designs. We have found that the " New Generation of Hippsters" love neon and want it for their business and bedrooms. And their pockets are deep, no questions asked. Anyone can put Christmas tree lights ( LEDs ) in a sign. Skilled Craftsmen make quality signs and money
  13. I will be there for the entire show. Family going to Mickey Mouse Land
  14. When you rewired the unit, Did the new wiring have the connection for "High Idle" ( High Speed ). Did you cross wires or hook that up by mistake ?
  15. Did you install an after market control on this ? or the VersaLift original part ?
  16. Yes Richard, We went to the same business school. I have done exactly the same with the same results. Always paid in the end. And yes to the cops. The customer usually pisses off the cops and then the cop says..." how fast can you pull down the sign "
  17. My Invoice states....All products delivered to the purchaser under this contract shall remain the property of Paul Signs Inc. whether the same have been installed in or attached to real property or not. Until the purchase price is paid in full, Paul Signs Inc. shall have the right to to repossess its products and to enter upon and sever the same from any real property where delivered or installed. It works. We always are paid.
  18. Did they do a repo job and someone is pissed ???
  19. Mooreindhardware.com Everything you need to build it yourself. Look at everything they have, lots of good stuff. Fast and great pricing
  20. Very nice work. The design is great and its easy access.
  21. You need to do the math and a lot of homework. Add everything up and get the total weight, then add another 5,000 lbs. to it. Then start looking at truck chassis that can carry the total weight and maybe a trailer too. Think about who is and who will be driving your trucks. An automatic is more money now, but not in the long run. Its easier to get drivers to drive automatics and its a pleasure by the end of the day. Buying the right truck that has the correct engine and transmission power is the best investment you can make. Don't kill the truck. Spend now and save a lot later. Dont forget about Brakes, Tires, Springs and mechanical repairs will cost more then buying the bigger better truck now Non CDL Trucks are basically service trucks. My 2001 works and still drives like brand new truck with a few scatches
  22. Call STAMM Industries Ft Peirce FL They will tell you anything you need to know about VersaLifts
  23. Call Versa Lift. They are in Waco Tx Ask them what is required
  24. This is a utility truck, designed for one purpose only..... Not the sign industry The cabinet body is a short 7 ft one piece unit. You can not cut anything off or out. It is what it is. They make 10 ft bodies on longer wheel bases. Options are....take a 10 ft cardboard lamp box and lay it horizontal flat on top of the ladder rack as high as you can The Box will extend over the cab roof. The rotation boom must clear the box. If that works, then you can start Build an Aluminum box with lift up doors complete access to the top. Doors on the rear of the box to access all lamps. Lamps brake and you need to get them out. Look at my Gallery for the box. The correct box will carry every size lamp. You can install this on either side of the truck, your choice. Everything has to be custom made to work. Ladders.....Unless you carry a 24 ft or bigger extension ladder, get "little Giants". A 7 ft closed hight will get you 28 ft. You need to make this truck carry everything in one trip. Otherwise you will be losing money.
