  1. IMO, it really depends what you're using it for. Have you ever used one? Had one at my old employer. I never liked those drop down man baskets. You won't be leaving anything inside it, if you have to drive it 10'. But they have a lot of units out there working everyday. So some folks must like them, or live with them.
  2. I bought mine from Carolina Crane and Repair. Good folks!
  3. I love my SR77 Skyhoist. I like Elliots, just don't own one. Had a few with my old employers. Only complaint was the self leveling bucket issues. Now this was 10+ yrs ago. I'll assume that issue has been addressed. I'm pretty proficient on Skyhoist maintenance. But if I ever get in too deep, I have a local guy here. Who's been servicing them from their inception. Bill Christopherson (he travels).
  4. We've been working 50-60 hr weeks for the last 3 months... Starting to kill us all.
  5. Come move to Texas! I'll put you to work!
  6. I only get bout a 50% success rate in getting work orders filled out properly in the field... Pisses me off. Having to spend time with the crews every day. Getting them to fill out their paper work right. Not one of them is under 40 years old... They do great work. But filling in all the blanks on a piece of paper is damn near impossible. They've asked for a portable laptop. No way. Most go through a digital camera once a month. Something else for them to break...
  7. I'm going to start charging $50 - $100 per crate. It takes a lot of time, as you all know. To bag those F-ing "peanuts".... I don't just dump them in my dumpster. I like a clean yard.
  8. Digital Signage Certified Expert (DSCE) ? Who hands out this participation trophy? Let me guess, "Almo?"
  9. Mark; I am going to enshrine this reply. You hit all the points my friend. The last line says it all. Just for the record, I am going to call you and Paul the Tennis/Diamond Brothers. You guys kick ass and deserve the success I know you are experiencing. Best Thanks Dominic. The only person who gets to take my money. Without a fight, or an accountant involved. Is my lovely wife.
  10. I stay away from the bad payers. I do use this site when the random call comes in. But I also have one hell of a data base, and memory for slow payers. That being said, I always get paid. As soon as my wife gets the run around on a past due invoice. I make a phone call. I require an answer asap. When I get their answer, I then decide my next step. When the answer is, we're behind, we can't find the your invoice, or no answer. They get the, OK, I am contacting the property owner, and submitting my intent to Lien. Which I do. You'd be real surprised how quickly a property mgmt company/property owner can get you paid. I also explain to the sign company. As soon as I start my lien process, your bill just went up. I've only had to have my attorney write 2 letters. Those run about $375.00 extra, on the invoice. The main deal is, you have to be willing to follow through with the lien. I am...
  11. I am unable to vote in this poll. Since I haven't read any of our industry "rags" in 5 years at least. I used to get S.O.T.. Probably 1 article a month peeked my interest, or dealt with custom fabrication. Having every page filled with Digital Printers, or EMC's, meant zero to me. I used to advertise in S.O.T.. Dropped that about 5 years ago as well.
  12. Yup, another project / product that doesn't fit into my business plan.
  13. I looked at it. But didn't fit into my business plan.
  14. In 5 years the lamps will still be lit. Wonder how the LED's will be performing? I had a national come to me with this product. They wanted me to retro fit a bunch of monument/pole signs. They had allotted about the same time to install the Sloan product. Left out, all the retro fit time.. I passed...
  15. Found their sign before the awesome LED retro fit. Looks like Stevie Wonder is bending glass in Chicago...
  16. Standard hack crap. Looks like lowest bidder won again! Wonder how long those LED's will last?
  17. Faces are routing now! I hope it pushes my Beer Brewery across the street off high center. And they buy a sign from me. On the letter neon. Not sure if it will be Bromo or White. My neon guy is making me some samples. To see how well it will look on the blue background. Then Bromo and White border. I really wanted to build a Marquee type. Like I did for a customer. But no place to do on my building.
  18. Thanks for the input. Like the famous singer "Davey Jones from the Beatles sang, "I'll do it my, way"...
  19. The PK's say no horizontal installation. Nothing on glass or porcelains...
  20. I could use porcelains, i guess. Just wondering if my design will fly per UL?
  21. I'm finally getting around to building a "real" sign for my business. After 8 years here, it's about time. Due to city F-ing regs. I can't project more than 18" from the fascia. I'm wanting to use housings on the border "Wings". But my top and bottom pans are only going to be 2" deep. So I can't put them on the face of the pan. I'll have to place them facing up, on the next pans, and main cabinet. I figure with the glass housing caps, that should fly? Design below
  22. Matt, I'm 24 years in the sign business in the D/FW -Texas market. I have neon, as well as every type of sign imaginable installed all over this great State. Never once have I, or one of my employers had a fire start from our sign. I have plenty of neon, even in Tyler that makes it through our weather. (Jalapeno Tree, Mercardo's, Posado's) to name a few. I give a 5 year warranty on all of my products. Which includes labor. You and I briefly discussed this. Honestly, you do need to spend some time with Brian. As well as other sign shops. You need to learn the industry, you're trying to sell to. As far as LED being a superior product. You haven't been around long enough. To know the history of how shitty LED's were, and some still are.
  23. I have an oil guy (close friend) who takes care of my needs. It's true, different trucks do require different hydraulic oils. He has me hooked up for my; Shear, Forklift, Cranes, and Bucket Trucks. Also get my grease/ lube from him. I keep plenty of "pails" on hand (5 Gal). Never know when your next hose is going to blow. Also, change out your hydraulic filters regularly.
  24. Ah, the joys of working with your spouse. I'm (we) are on our 8th blissful year of; working, living, sleeping, & fighting together... Would I change it? Hell ya! I fire my wife monthly, she won't leave.... ;)
