  1. George in the big picture I can agree with you one one thing. We have the freedom of speech in this country, so we also have it on this forum. I am having vision problems. I have one friend that is totally blind, and another one that is partially blind. If you have problems later in life with vision you will see how important is is to have ADA signs and regulations. Our population is rapidly aging. More and more baby boomers are going into senior citizenship. As for the restroom topic, it is so very controversial not only in the sign industry but with the general public. I choose not to get to much into the fray. In my culture, the nail that sticks up gets pounded down. I will no longer participate in this thread. Too much acrimony here. Sayonara.. and I wish you peace and happiness.
  2. I will not get into the shower issue as I do not design shower signs. If we do away with urinals and just use stalls, then unisex bathrooms work. It will also work for transgender people. So proprieters can still have only two bathrooms. One unisex etc. and one for men only or women only, the people who do not want anything to do with transgender people. Then all they have to do is remove all urinals and go with all stalls.
  3. In my short stint working for Sharon Toji who is known as "The ADA Sign Lady" I learned why we have government mandated ADA signs. Sharon is legally blind, and I am not that far behind her. If we went back to the cheap flat restroom signs of Pre ADA days, it would be extremely difficult for any blind or semiblind person to find the correct restroom. As the baby boom generation goes into senior citizenship, with all of the medical problems that ensue with aging. ADA. Knocking ADA signage is definitely WRONG. I see noting wrong with acommidating transgender people. Just where in the hell are they going to go to use the restroom? It is not a new problem, It has always been ignored in the past. No one is "knocking ADA" signs. And where in the hell have they been peeing for the last 100 years? Man, I've bitten my tongue on many of your posts in the past. But this post of yours, takes the cake. Let a man go pee with your 7 yr old daughter. If you have no problem with that. You're part of the problem, not the solution. .03% of the population, reportedly considers themselves transgender. Why on Earth would the other 99.7% have to accommodate their bathroom choice. You got a stick in your pants, use the mens room. Remove the stick, use the womens. It's that damn simple. All I can say is, "Ouch" I am not a vitriolic person.

  5. If you are really buried in too much work and have to declline work, the best thing to do IMHO is to give them a referral to another sign company that is not busy and needs business. .
  6. How incredibly stupid and irresponsible to put up signs without permits. It puts a stain on our industry.
  7. My truck was burglarized about a month ago. The theif stole my telescope accessory box, which as zero resale value. Whoever the thief was he was petty dumb not to take my eyepiece case. It will cost me at least $150 to preplace the lost accessories.
  8. I consider SOT to be the premiere sign industry magazine.
  9. It is sad that this man lost his life in this accident. It behooves installers to double check their equipment before using it.
  10. This shows how long it has been since I designed any neon. I did a Google search for Electrobits and they do not show up at all. In recent years all I have designed is LED illuminated signs.....
  11. This is good. It is healty to have a competitior to the Electrobits Corporation
  12. I can draw for Superior but ONLY as a contract frreelancer.
  13. What happened to your regular guy? He worked there for years.
  14. alltec: I agree with everything you said. As a designer, I have seen sign drawings where the designer was not given wall section details. The designer then puts in an ambiguous connection method, showing three or four different ways to do it. As a designer, I am very careful not to assume anything when it comes to desiging and engineering a sign. As a matter of fact, when a sign DOES require engineering, I deliberatly design it weak so the engineer ADDS structure to the design. If I design it strong, engineers tend to rubber stamp the design, which results in a sign design that is overweight and costly in materials.
  15. What this job really needed was the archtectural CAD file to show the wall constrction. Then the designer determnes the attachment method. If this information ws not provided to the designer, well garbage in results in garbage out. Designers need proper information to render a proper drawing.
  16. As a designer, I also feel that the installation details should be on the drawing. If they were then the installer did not build to blueprint.
  17. Oh no. a mass shooting at a sign company http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...88R00E20120928 Oh this is horrible, that this kind of social ill has struck our industry. My thoughts and prayers go to the victims and the families. The shooter offed himself and he is likely to burn in hell forever for his despicable and evil actions. As an understatement, this is unacceptable behaviour for the workplace, and society in general. Obviously this person was angry at the company, and likely the whole world, and committed this cowardly act. In our locality last year, there was a mass shooting at a beauty salon, and that person is likely to get life in prison if not the death penalty
  18. Keeping busy desiging signs

  19. I am going to move my design portfolio here. More to come later.
  20. This proposed dimmable sign business is because of blatant use of very bright electronic digital displays as seen on the freeways in Los Angeles. They are so damn bright that they ruin your night vision and make driving hazardous.
  21. As I have been taught years ago, for neon the minimum stroke width is 1 1/2"/ The assembler has to be able to get his fingers into the channel to install it. The minimum depth is 3 1/2 inches if you use Electrobits brand hardware. BUtr yu make life easier for the assemblers if you make the stroke 2 inches minimum. I can fix this drawing for you for a price. Contact me.
  22. I will share some of mine when I have the time to post.
