  1. That goes in my Bad Signs, Not PhotoShopped folder...
  2. I am partial to Signs of the Times as it has been around the longest. I even travelled to the National Sign Museum in 2007 and Todd showed me around some fascinating relics of the past, like an early illuminated cabinet sign that had animal skin faces and gaslighting fixtures inside.
  3. I wish our sign company would put up an electrical sign and message center.
  4. I go to the Long Beach NBM show if only to get technical information on material I use in sign design work such as plexiglas, vinyl and LEDs.
  5. I try to go every year as it is conveniently located close to where I work and live. I do not go to the classes unless my employer pays for them. I do get a lot of technical information from the vendors for free and always snag a letter or two from the Gemini People, just for fun.
  6. I have seen Unions that are very corrupt. It fosters laziness in the workers and drives costs up for everybody.
  7. My experience with Gerber is from over ten years ago. I have not kept up with it. But what I have seen is the Gerber uses proprietary file formats. Have you tried to import all raster and vector file formats?
  8. Thanks for sharing your video. very useful information...
  9. Let me know what software you are using right now to print to your Gerber, I may be able to get a good workaround for you.
  10. I have used Ventex solid state transformers in my designs for years. Good stuff.

  12. As a designer, I prefer to work for companies as an employee. However, I do freelance work to ease the financial burden on the employer, and to make money on the side.

  14. My best wishes on not only this new year but also for the new decade. Here's hoping that the economy will recover and the sign business can again come alive and provide jobs and livelihood for all of us unemployed sign folks.....in the meantime, I had the privilege of working as a decorator on this kind of special signage, the 2011 City of Torrance Tournament of Roses Float
  15. Prettiest sign girl I have ever seen...

  16. Greetings to all. I am an architectural and electrical sign designer based in Long Beach California. I have been designing signs since 1994 after apprenticeship at Superior Electrical. Since then I have worked for a number of companies both large and small, designing and making prodcution drawings for just about every type of sign in the industry, including fire evacuation maps, wayfinding signs, parking structure directional signs, pole signs, pylon signs, monument signs, neon signs, channel letters, electronic message centers and plaques. I also have experience doing site surveys and also interpretation and submittal of city permits. In addition I have some manufacturing experience runing plotters and large format digital printers. I use Corel Draw as my primary design software, and PhotoShop for rendering digital prints. I have also used industry-specific sofware such as LetterArt, CASMate, FlexiSign, Graphics Advantage and Neon Wizard. I have an innate talent in learning software quickly and I am quite computer literate. If you are interested in me as either a new hire or as a contractor designer please review my portfolio here: Matthew Ota's SIgn Portfolio

  19. I am back designing signs after a 1.5 year sabbatical

  20. I would agree with the city on this issue. The few new signs I have seen with this new technology are way too bright and can ruin the night vision of drivers. In addition the moving images can distract them from the road and concentrating on driving. I would advocate a middle of the road solution by limiting the size and lumen output of these signs.
  21. I am the person you need. I am a production and manufacturing oriented sign designer. I have experience making full size pattern files for router tables- push-thru channel letters included. I have designed three dimensional signage and made pattern files for it. I sent you a PM with contact information.
