I know Brian.....but I have to have another job......no sign shops hiring up here......damn it

Okay....I got a few of you ranting a while back when I posted a not so flattering post of someone new to me. Got some of you guessing right.....tee hee hee. Well, I haven't been on lately due to the following. I have been "laid off" due to lack of work. DUH......when I asked him if I was laid off he said..."I don't know the term for it, but I will call you in when I need you." ie....layoff &*%$(*&^. k...being polite there....didn't want to say what i was thinking. Not only that but on top of all of this...my house caught fire....been living in a Holiday inn.....yea me....when it rains it pours. But back on subject. Now, instead of me coming into work, he calls me for my knowledge of the sign industry. He has fired the designer because the designer asked to many questions. And he keeps me hangin on. I love working in the sign industry and want so much to do what I love. In the last 4 weeks I have worked 3 hours and that was to install vinyl to a door for him because he fired the one person who was to do that job. Good thing I know how to weed, mask, & apply vinyl. He has called me on several occassions to get information out of me. The first time I just blearted out the information cause I wasn't thinking....second and third time i just said...yes I know the answer to that...but didn't give it to him. Here is my question........he is going to want to pay me for the 3 hours only....not the time that he has me on the phone doing consulting work.....do I send him a bill for that or fight for pay for that time. My job decription is not for consulting...but he can't do it without asking me questions....why....cause he doesn't know crap about the sign business. Help...answers good and bad welcome.....I love the sarcasm that comes with these posts. Love you guys!!

Thank you all for the kind words, the sparring , and everything else. I needed to vent and some took it a little more serious than I intended. If I offended anyone, that was not my intention and please accept my sincere apologies for that. You all have made me feel much better about the situation I am in. However, I thought I would share good news. My boss came to me today and asked if I would take over a few more responsibilites with the product, since I was nice and warned him a sign would be coming back. Told him if it would have been my product, I would not have sent it out the door. Yesterday, the customer called him to site and informed him he wasn't happy with it. And we are going to have to re-do it. I tried to tell him. You all have been wonderful...even chubby....I like having someone to chop on every now and then. Wouldn't be the sign business if I didn't. Thank you all again..and if I ever get to meet you in person...THE DRINKS ARE ON ME!

LOL....well I forgive you for your "white lie". I know..I question my sanity every day wondering why I got into this business and stay in it......has to be the high rate of pay and the low stress And for chubby guy.....he don't bother me...i rather had fun giving him a hard time. Sometimes ya just have to be the pee in the cereal.

Oh..that is sooo wrong. My home is Alabama. LOL...and I know how wrong that statement is...tee hee hee. Matter of fact, my hometown is Dothan. I miss Alabama....I miss going to a restaurant and getting sweet tea, and I miss all my Tide buddies!

I am biting the bullet. LOL.....Hopefully the ecomomy will pick up and more sign shops will hire in the area. Move from sunny florida...well we got a great deal on a house with 20+ acres and I love seasons. No seasons in floraduh.....unless you count hot and hotter. LOL

Not really asking for someone to tell me that I should be fired. I would love to be able to Project Manage like I was hired to do. However, I am not allowed because the owner thinks that he should do it all. I miss working. I love the business...however, this is not a sign shop. Should be and could be if the owner would take mine and my co-worker's advice. The owner has staff meetings every morning and we give him ideas and how to make this more productive. However, we get shot down every time. I am the one who needed to vent. Better to vent here then to take it home to my family or go off on the boss. I bite my tongue a lot. However, You really ticked the wrong nerve. Sorry if you were offended....My main objective here was to vent...no more no less.

Yes, that is in Tampa. I left to take over a shop in Orlando. Ran it for 2 years, got married and moved. Forgot that I hadn't changed my bio. I am now in Missouri

I don't go because the owner won't let anyone go but himself. Today we ran into another issue. The customer wanted four (4) d/f alumacore 48" x 48" signs manufactured. The owner didn't get the correct information and now we don't have enough product. He wrote it up as four (4) s/f alumacore 48" x 48" signs. And promised the customer who ordered the signs yesterday that they would be done by 5. He won't let me call the customer and let him know we have run into a problem. And he hasn't called the customer and the customer will be here in a bit. And the owner has left the building. Hmmm...guess i am in for another tail chewing. Authority problems...Nope...I don't mind Authority...I was in the military. I rather love it...but I hate stupid people. Now shall I line you up in that catagory or shall I take it that when you know what you are talking about and sitting in my shoes that you might pull your head out and see the full picture.
