  1. Thanks fellas! I am specifically looking at the CF-30, the unit has built in GPS, WIFI, and bluetooth. I think I will pull the trigger this morning and see how things go.
  2. Wanting to get my truck set up with a computer for on site communication for emails and layouts/blue prints. I am looking at the Panasonic Tough book CF-30 and the Gamber-Johnson Tough book mount. Does anyone have any experience with the tough books or any experience with the do's and don't s of truck mounted computers? Thanks in advance!!
  3. We are working on one location currently that we will have a huge panel with LED channel letters attached to it over glass, we have to run the electric through the space occupied by the glass, so we removed the weather striping around the glass that holds it in the frame and replaced the glass with 10mm alu-panel. Storing the glass panel in the attic and upon the tenant leaving the glass can be reinstalled for a back to factory finish.
  4. Anybody else starting to notice that there are a growing number of companies failing? I as a subscriber to a few auction companies that do by the order of the bank sales and I have been getting at least one a week and then this week I have gotten three so far. With 2014 being the best year we have had and Jan. and Feb. being the best start to the year we have ever had I hope the trend isn't on the verge of heading the other way.
  5. -27 wind chill here when we were on this install.
  6. At one of my previous employers we had a huge 1500 page book of vector images ("clip art" for lack of better term) that we used to help with layouts and such... I can't for the life of me remember the name or where we purchased it, do any of you have any books like this and where you may have acquired it? Not looking for anything free just need to get something similar to assist with layouts. thanks!
  7. Hmmmm... looks like pretty much everyone else is in the same boat as I?
  8. Would any of you care to share photos of how you have your torch tanks stowed on your install trucks? Also I'm tired of digging through a drawer to find two or four of the same size lifting shackles and straps, how do you have those stowed?
  9. WOW!! I went back and watched the whole episode on youtube (wasn't up when I looked the first time) That guy is out of this world, I like to think I know it all every now and again and every day life shows me how much I don't know, but man this guy needs a life changing experience and I don't think that qualifies. What a sad excuse for a person, I feel bad for his whole crew and the most for his "girl friend".
  10. I pulled it up on youtube and watched the 15 min clip they had of it.........thoughts? Anyone know the store owner? Family and Friends through him under the bus.
  11. Nope, I had a discussion with them again today, thought I had some common sense talked into them and then they went back to the engineers approval.........I then said I would like to dispose of this permit app and I will send another one with 3 - 7'tall X 4' wide signs and we will arrange the vinyl to accommodate what we want it to advertise. Her response was that if they were to make up one sign then I would be getting a notice of violation in the mail. This is Des Moines, IA by the way, I have pulled permits in every medium - large city in the state of Iowa and Des Moines is BY FAR the worst to deal with, I just don't understand how you can tell a business that pays a large amount of taxes every year that you are not welcome to advertise your business.
  12. The city has gone full Nazi on signs!! A few weeks ago they come out with a letter to some of the local sign companies stating that they were in the process of changing how the permit process would go for sign permits and that they were in the process of changing the sign code to greatly restrict the installation of EMC's, and laying the ground work to ban pole signs in favor of monument signs. One of the sign codes that has always been interpreted with common sense when it comes to wall signs is now being blanketed over all signage. That is the code stating that any sign that has a face of 50 sqft or larger will now need an engineers stamped approval, Yes that means EVERYTHING! I didn't believe it until today when I got a call from one of the inspectors that the permit that I had submitted was going to be approved as soon as I had an engineer sign off on it. The sign that I submitted the permit for was a 7' tall x 12' wide 3mm alupanel with vinyl graphics mounted with tapcons to the brick side of a building 18" off the ground!!!!!!! I couldn't believe what I was hearing, what the hell is there to engineer?? I asked if I were to have a set of flush mount channel letters on there instead of the alupanel would that need to be engineered also and his response was that if the box around the channel letters was 50 sqft or greater then YES it would need engineers approval! Do any of you have to get engineers approval on crap like this??
  13. I'm out then! I signed up for the free SLAP CHOP!
  14. No it's not Wagner, These are specific to Conoco Phillips stations.
  15. Can anyone remind me what company Conoco Phillips uses for their gas price changeable numbers? Specifically Phillips 66 stations, I used to have them in my contacts but for some reason I cannot find them.
  16. Everything FROZEN!!! Trucks in general, water pipes at home (even with a finished basement!!) ol' lady had a flat tire this morning....air compressor wouldn't run!! I am glad by this time in two weeks I'll be in the Dominican Republic at an all inclusive washing away my worries with Crown & water!
  17. Looking for new job tracking software.....specifically service / Installation forms to hand off to my techs and installers, what do you recommend?
  18. What radios do you guys use for job site communication? Ear piece, shoulder mic?
  19. That Pete is like looking at truck porn.....can you build me one and send it to Santa for my Christmas present, I asked him for one this year when I seen him at the mall.
  20. I love everything except that freight-shaker chassis...........Does Freightliner beg you guys to use their trucks?
  21. How do you all go about bidding projects? Do you use a lead generator like one offered by many online sites or do you chase them down yourself? I wold really like to get some more invitations to bid but I don't have time to go knocking on their doors every week to see what is out there. If that is what it takes then I guess I need to look into hiring a sales person...........any advice would be welcomed, PM me if you like.
  22. I have been but couldn't see what they could offer me that I wasn't already doing. Not worth the franchising fee in my opinion. But that is JUST MY OPINION.
  23. First Impressions are everything. I don't mind calling someone out for their mistakes. Criticism is what makes people and companies better.
