  1. Hello Joe.  I work with Elliott Equipment Company and saw your post this morning, so i thought I could comment and contribute something to the conversation.

First off, thanks for the compliment on the customer service.  I'm going to make sure our aftersales support guys see your post, I think it will mean a lot to them.

The topic of non-CDL sign trucks is one that comes up often, and it's why we focus on maintaining a full lineup of installation and service trucks that are available as non-CDL trucks.

Compared to the trucks you have now, we've made some big updates on our Elliott HiReach products including an entirely new work platform and control box design (aluminum floor, redesigned controls, new EZR design).  We've also completely changed the jib winch to allow it to be easily stowed in the basket (no more disassembly), and it extends further out over the front of the platform rails.  Here are some pictures of the new design.

To help you on your search, here is a list of the most popular non-CDL trucks we offer.  If you're worried about carrying capacity, we offer aluminum beds and boxes on all models to help trim down the weight even further.

    Elliott M43 Install/Service Truck

    http://www.elliottequip.com/products/m43r-hireach/

48' working height, 36' side reach, fits on a 19,500 lb GVWR Dodge 5500 or Ford F550.  Has a 500 lb jib winch and a  2,000 lb main winch option which means that you won't need an OSHA crane license in November 2017 when the new crane law goes into effect.  The combination of small chassis, material handling, and side reach makes it a great combo install/service truck.

    Elliott L55/L60 Install Truck

    http://www.elliottequip.com/products/l55r-hireach/

    http://www.elliottequip.com/products/l60r-hireach/

57' or 62' working height, unrestricted side reach, 500 lb two-man basket, fits on a 25,999 lb GVWR non-CDL truck (Freightliner/International/Ford/etc).  Has a 5,900 lb main winch for heavy lifting.  L60 model has an optional 500 lb jib winch in the platform.

    Elliott V60F Service Truck

    http://www.elliottequip.com/products/v60f-hireach/

63' working height and a 500 lb platform capacity with an optional 500 lb jib winch.  Fits on a small 19,500 lb GVWR truck with a 10'5" outrigger spread, making it easy to set up in a tight space.

    Elliott M85 Service Truck

    http://www.elliottequip.com/products/m85-hireach/

87' working height and 74' side reach with a 750 lb capacity two-man basket, all rated at 25,999 lbs GVWR non-CDL.  Excellent side reach.

  2. This is a great question, and it's something that comes up often in conversations with sign companies on new machine builds. Although you're talking about adding one to a SkyCrane, I thought it would be good to chime in from the Elliott Equipment Company perspective.

Buying a new sign truck without a jib will save a little money, but it really can hurt resale value down the road since, as Paul says, the jib winch is heavily relied upon by many sign companies as a primary lifting device or as a critical backup device. The vast majority of our customers prefer to have a jib winch on their sign truck, even if it's used sparingly.

Just recently, we launched a new platform jib winch in our L60 HiReach model. The jib now stows vertically in the platform and telescopes out for more reach than ever before. Plus, it's rated at 500 lbs capacity at all angles. We're going to be rolling the new jib out on our other sign trucks starting this fall. A major reason for the new design is the increasing use of LED lit signs that have reduced weight. Many of our customers are doing their channel letter or cabinet installs using the jib winch. At a 500 lb capacity, it covers a lot of the work being done.

  3. Hello everyone,

Erik, thanks for sharing this information, we're extremely excited about this new Elliott E190 aerial device, which is now the tallest telescopic aerial device manufactured in North America. It's primarily designed for the utility industry for new transmission line construction and maintenance. One of the biggest benefits we offer throughout the HiReach line is that our products are designed to meet the ANSI A92.2 aerial standard, instead of the standard that applies to boom trucks with baskets. This means that our equipment adheres to much stricter stability testing and structural testing which means more safety and reliability.

As for the remotes being hacked, these aerial work platforms all have a hard-wired connection for the remotes in the platform so that you run the machine at height without relying on the wireless connection. The radio is for use with an optional electrical isolating extension section.

As far as the ride goes, it is smooth and extremely stable. And you get a great view from 190’. Here are some photos of the Omaha skyline from the platform. Looking down is another story though. People look pretty small from 190’ in the sky.

  4. Elliott Equipment Company also had an excellent experience at the show, meeting with many of our customers and dealers. Everyone seemed to have a really positive attitude, which is a great thing to see.

In case you missed it, Elliott also sponsored the golf ball drop event at the Western States Sign Council (WSSC) golf tournament the day before the show. We brought over a 110' Elliott H110 HiReach from YESCO in Las Vegas to do the ball drop. We were able to drop several hundred balls from the platform, which was a lot of fun.

Check out the pictures in our new gallery. Who says you can't have fun with a sign crane?

  5. Tough crowd here! :)

Given the level of customization and truck brands involved in this type of equipment, and the wide range of travel distances from the Elliott factory, the only way to get a ballpark number is to speak with your local Elliott dealer.

We appreciate all the feedback, hopefully we'll have a chance to discuss the setup with some of you at the ISA Sign Exp in April.

  6. Hello everyone,

We're happy to announce the development of a new heavy-duty aluminum toolbox and bed package designed specifically for use on our line of HiReach sign cranes both as an option on new units, as well as a retrofit on older Elliotts.

The custom built package includes a two-piece aluminum bed with a grip surface. It can include a wide variety of underbody boxes, torch boxes, and lamp bins constructed of treadplate or smooth aluminum with locking doors. The complete aluminum bed and body package with six toolboxes weighs up to 60% less than a standard steel flatbed and toolbox setup. During the past decade, truck weights have steadily increased due to emissions and other design changes, so the need for a lightweight tool and equipment storage package has become increasingly important. By utilizing Elliott’s new aluminum body package, owners can benefit from lower chassis costs and less maintenance, while retaining excellent versatility and resale value.

I've included some photos so that you guys can see how slick this package looks.

The aluminum bed and box package is available from all authorized Elliott Equipment dealers worldwide. The new body package will be on display in the Elliott Equipment booth at the ISA Sign Expo in Las Vegas from April 9th to the 11th. We invite you all to visit us to see this new package firsthand.
We hope you all like this product line development. We keep working hard to find ways to boost productivity and value for our sign and lighting customers.

  7. In response to Paul's post above (great comments by the way), we have solutions for everything! There are a number of HiReach units out in the field with a step bumper to help with bed access. Check it out.

My Thoughts only.....Tandam axles mean 4 more tires and 2 more brakes, More headaches and more reasons for the cops and DOT to write tickets.

Elliotts are nice, but the work beds are way to high up. And the back step is a back breaker. Manetex is my choice. 7 years without any problem. . Altec is following Manitex on the same design Getting the truck serviced will also play a big part on your choice.

Stay with the 3 top brands and you should do well. Any truck that works without issues is a good truck. You love them or hate them.

Good luck and best wishes on this adventure.

  9. I love everything except that freight-shaker chassis...........Does Freightliner beg you guys to use their trucks?

Hey Travis, we definitely don't get begged to use Freightliners. That choice is really driven by our customers. Over the past few years, there has been plenty of turmoil in the truck industry. Freightliner offers the right mixture of engine reliability and dealer availability at the best possible price. They also do an excellent job of keeping the fuel tank, air tank, battery box, and emissions equipment completely under the truck cab. This eliminates frame interference and allows us to install more toolboxes.

Most of our customers (sign guys) tend to look for the lowest priced chassis, and that happens to be Freightliner/Ford.

That being said, we've built plenty of L60s on more expensive trucks. Here are a few samples (Hino, Peterbilt, and International).

We don't really have a truck preference!

  12. This year is Elliott Equipment's 65th anniversary in the business, so we might be the only manufacturer that can offer up some high resolution mid-century pictures. Here are some pictures of 1950s Elliott HiReach that we have on our factory office walls. It's pretty amazing how far we've come in terms of safety, design, and multi-functionality!

We still have the sign truck shown in the first picture, and it still runs. Great for local parades.

  13. Carlton,

I'm with Elliott Equipment Company, and I quickly wanted to jump into the conversation to mention one of our newer models designed for sign companies working in that 45' range. Our M43 HiReach (shown at the ISA Show 2012) offers 48' of working height on a 19,500 lb GVWR Ford F550 or Dodge 5500 chassis.

Elliott M43 HiReach on Ford F550 19,500 lb GVWR

    Here's a link to the product brochure - http://www.elliottequip.com/docs/default-document-library/m43r-spec-brochure.pdf

30x54" Steel Platform, 500 lb Capacity

    500 lb Jib Winch

    Telescopic Boom

    Steel Bed and Crossbody Box

    Cab Guard Walkway

Big advantage at Elliott, as most people here know, is that we do full customization for sign companies. Much more than the competition.

We have dealers in your area that have this model in stock, I'm certain they would be happy to give you a demo. Let me know if we can help.

    Cheers,

    David P.

  14. Thank you Erik and Kirstie for hosting the Meet & Greet. Sorry that Justin from International and I couldn't stay longer, but we had a tight schedule! Seems to always been the case at these shows. You have a great group of members, and I look forward to seeing you all again in Orlando.

PS - This year's show was incredible for Elliott, one of the best ever. Thank you to anyone here on the forum that stopped by at our booth, we're always happy to see such incredible support for our products.

  15. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I especially like what you did for the cross-body box on this unit.

If any of you are going to the ISA show in April, we'll have the V60F HiReach model in our booth along with three other sign trucks. Mounted on a 19,500 lb GVWR International Terrastar chassis, same as above. Great chance to ask questions and make recommendations to our team.

If you stop by the booth, ask for me, David, and I'll give you a tour.
