  1. You will get better bite fromn the paint if you steel wool before spraying.
  2. Hi WSG- I normally use a 60 tooth carbide tipped blade. It cuts through all substrates beautifully. Now, Lexan is a different animal. On a table saw the Lexan cuts great with 60 or 80 tooth blades but I thnk its the way the sub is pushed through and the amount of blade that is up. On a panel saw the weight and natural curvature of the Lexan makes it easier for the blade to pull the sub as its cutting causing it to bounce and shatter. If you could adjust the blade on the panel saw to only extend beyond the thickness of the sub it would be great cuts, I think. I am unable to do that so if my cuts are vertical I just put a scrap piece of pvc or mdo IN FRONT of the Lexan and that stops the Lexan from being pulled and shattered. Hope this helps and it makes sense with my rambling
  3. Also you can try using a floor paint. It is tougher and dries harder for longer lasting tabletop finish. The trick is to give 2 coats after sanding to smooth finish and then letting it dry for at least 2 days. 3-4 day weekends are the time to do it. Good luck.
  4. Having worked with SignLab and Gerber Omega I prefer Omega. It could be the more organized environment of Composer or the more capabilites that Omega offers in one screen. When using SignLab I feel as if certain functions/tools arent "grouped" accordingly to there final use. I am currently working with Flexi and find ot to be similar (but NOT the same to Omega). Guessing after 15 years I am a die-hard Gerber fan Since you own a copy of Omega you can purchase a second USB key for a fraction of the software's cost. Just my 2 cents. Fran
  5. Hi Jetsigns- I would use the Omega software to run the Edge. There are many functions that are designed with the Edge and MAXX in mind. Pantone color-matching, Gerber Spectratone (which I think is great) and various other Gerber specific items. Omega has its on plot/cut program (automatic when you go to cut) and it can also run a digital print RIP software. I have worked with most of the sign softwares in my 14 years but I still prefer the capabilities of the Gerber line. Just my 2 cents.
  6. Hey WSG- What do you think about dividing up the employment section into "Employment Opportunities" and "Available Professionals" or something to that effect. That way if someone is looking to hire they dont have to scroll through the "Position Available in..." Follow me? I figure it would be easy now before this site becomes so popular you wont have time. Just my 2 cents :wiggle: I'm enjoying the site. It has alot to offer and you have done a great job in the set-up.
  7. I worked for a guy that would give free estimates over phone, via fax and email. The previous estimates had a disclaimer regarding the kind of substrate/size and final intended use for the sign was. He also had a note in the disclaimer that said if more accuratre specs were needed to faciliate installation a $25 site-call would be charged. If he had to leave the store he would charge $20 /hr with a 1 hr min. He would include this charge on the estimate and I do not remember customers objecting to it or losing jobs over it. Hope this helps :D
