  1. Apparently Jewelite is out of their Gold Trim Cap until July / August, so we've been getting a lot of calls from large Sign Shops for orders of Plasco's 1" Gold to complete a rather large Sign Program. So I dug out a Jewelite Sample of Gold, compared to Plasco's Gold Channel Letter Trim Cap. In the comparison, Plasco has just a more nicer gold color, Jewelite looks more of a washed out metal coloring with a little gold in it, IMO. If you're looking to see the Gold difference between the two to substitute, I think using Plasco 1" Gold Trim Cap will make those signs look so much better.
  2. Like everywhere else if you're very fortunate to be busy during this shut down, some business's are still willing to upgrade their branding in these slow depressing times We removed some outdated retail signage and upgraded them to their current look. I know, this is normally just an average channel letter sign....*Yawn*......but what's unique is the lighting system that powers it at night. The Illumination? BrightON II 24v constant current NOT constant voltage ....LEDs instead of the industry typical 12v LEDs for half the amperage across the wire and components which translates to less heat, resistance, and in return a MUCH better system for dependability. Not even to mention just how much light for very little power you get from the super high efficient BrightON II Chips with the added 175˙ high efficiency optics. Another advantage of 24V is the typical single channel power supplies are 96W, which means you can et LOTS of LED modules on a single power supply (less parts, less problems) which leads me to the next part... The system doesn't stop at the LEDs, it continues with France Lighting Solutions "True Power" LED Power Supplies. The Electric Sign industries unique and sole 100% load Power Supplies, no not 85%, not 80%.....100%. 5 year Labor / 5 Year Parts. If you've been in this industry long enough I don't even need to mention what "France" products mean....it mean Longevity & Dependability...just the BrightON II LEDs Front and Rear illuminated channel letters. France Westrim Pattern Paper 15" thick Tilt-Up Wall with plenty of rebar, WOOOHOOO!! France Lighting Solutions Power Supplies of course. The Atlas series with diagnostic LED lamp The Finished Day Look The Night Finished Look. For typical 5" deep return channel letters with front illumination light output measured right on the face for decent or as most LED MFG's like to say..."usable light"... if you have a light meter on hand ....."usable light" is right around 150 - 165 Foot Candles....that's just your typical even lighting number. The BrightON II at full stretch already exceeds that and with fewer modules compared to competitors using higher powered LED modules. This set right here gave us an average of 213 Foot Candles right on the face despite the light loss coming out of the rear. Brighton LEDs are "Competitive Light"...NOT "Usable Light" In the end? The client letting me know that they are VERY happy and that the sign looks AWESOME. These are the types of signs you flash to potential clients....Bright, Dependable, & Happy Reviews by Happy Customers. If this sign was in a shopping center the light output alone would stand out, and far above other competing signs. 3. SHOPPING CART LINK DAILY DELIVERY FOR SAN DIEGO 3/4" ($47.75) & 1" ($55.75) + Shipping Colors are below * Black * White * Gold * Silver (Brushed Silver Appearance) * Bronze * Duranotic Bronze * Orange * Red ( 3M Poppy Red 3630-143 | Pantone 179 C ) * Blue ( 3M Intense Blue 3630-127 | Pantone 300 C ) * Dark Blue (Avery Dark Blue 8500-007) * Yellow ( 3M Sunflower 3630-25 | Pantone 124 C ) * Green ( Oracal Emerald Green 8800-087 | Pantone 348 C ) Some notes I'd like to add about this product. Some may have used this product in the past and some may have never had a chance. This product disappeared from suppliers right after 9/11 from what I understand there were Customs issues that made it too costly to bring in. IF you remember this product from long ago, you will be glad it's back (just like the reaction I've gotten to all who have purchased from me). IF you have never used it, your fabricators will love you for using it, it's MUCH MUCH easier to work with and notch, you won't get those splits you sometimes get on corners. My other understanding is that this product was mainly distributed on the west coast, so not many on the east coast have ever tried it. My advice is try it, believe me YOU will LOVE it! Before 9/11 I used PLASCO and the Silvatrim Trimcaps. I still have signs up 16+ years and this trim cap is still up, it's very durable. PLASCO Trim for Polycarbonate Channel Letter Faces Plasco is an excellent channel letter trim cap to be used to fabricated polycarbonate / Lexan channel letter faces. We also stock Channel Bond, the 1 part system which makes it easy for bonding Plasco Trim to Polycarbonate. You can also find Channel Bond here PLASCO VS JEWELITE In another thread I was asking why anyone east of Colorado "WHY" they mainly buy 1" Jewlite and not 3/4" Jewelite for 24" Channel Letters and smaller. The reason seems to be is that when you use 1" Jewelite with a standard 3/16" channel letter face the 1" Jewelite gives you more clearance because the arrow extrusion protrudes more than 1/4" from the face giving you less mechanical fastening room. Make sense but 1" is very tough to notch, bend and get in small letter centers too because of that arrow extrusion. I was always use to Plasco Trim Cap in my years of the sign industry, NOT Jewelite because on the West Coast Plasco was stocked more than Jewelite before 9/11. So after this "clearance" point was brought up I did some quick measuring because I had a east coast client buy Plasco 1" to match up with his regular use of 1" Jewelite. Then shortly after receiving his order with 3/4" samples he soon after starting ordering 3/4". I asked him why the change in smaller trim. He said the change was because the 3/4" Plasco trim gave him the same fastening clearance that he got buying 1" Jewelite. I've attached some images to show you that you can use 3/4" Plasco Trim Cap that will give you the same clearance as 1" Jewelite IF clearance is important to you. Plasco vs. Jewelite - Here we display the channel letter baseline along with the clearance you get using 3/4" & 1" Plasco / Jewelite Trim Caps 1" Jewelite clearance 1" Plasco - More mechanical clearance than 1" Jewelite 3/4" Plasco - Just about the same mechanical clearance as using 1" Jewelite 3/4" Jewelite - Less mechanical clearance than 3/4" Plasco 1" Jewelite - Arrow extrusion protrusion more than 1/4" past the channel letter face. http://www.thesignsyndicate.com/miscstuff/adverts/examples/Plasco Trim Cap.JPG You can contact me by email for orders / inquiries at orders@thesignsyndicate.com or (858) 880-1400 or purchase from out online Shopping Cart
  4. What's just as good if not better than our Channel Letter trim Cap? Our fresh batch of Syndicate Bootleg Brewing "K-Liscious Summer Sunset Ale", that's what! It goes perfect with Trim Capping, it gives your finger tips a cool buzz feeling while saving the taste of hoppy goodness! By the way, I STILL don't get why most of you buy 1" Jewelite or 1" Plasco trim Cap for your average size letters. 3/4" PLASCO has the same mechanical clearance as 1" Jewelite, and again MUCH easier to work with without having to worry about bending that Jewelite arrow trim around tight corners and bends for small letter faces. Check this out, see.....same mechanical clearance! So why spend the extra money on 1" Jewelite???
  5. To update everyone of our new stock and colors we now have a darker blue which matches pretty well with Avery's Dark Blue Translucent 8500 Vinyl series 007. We also have a real Duranotic Bronze to match most coated pre-fab Aluminum coils. Finally we have an Orange. These can be ordered from our store http://www.thesignsyndicate.com/forums/index.php?/store/category/10-trim-cap-plastic-adhesives/ Or call in 858.880.1400
  6. Here's a short video we did on explaining Plasco Trim Cap and how it differs from others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3aartAEJ4c&feature=youtu.be
  7. Hello Just reporting back on the plasco trim i purchased. The stuff is great i had absolutely no troubles with it. I had lots of sharp truns and bends and it formed with ease and no cracking at all. Thanks again for letting me join up !! Have a great day!!
  8. I don't understand it. For myself and when it comes to standard channel letters 24" and smaller I usually would have used 3/4" Trim Cap. This seems to be the consensus on the west coast because I stock primarily 3/4" for most shops on the west coast who call to order. Yet, sign shops say...east of Colorado typically us and call to order 1" for everything 24" and under. Geographical?

  10. Just to let everyone know we are now shipping Channel Bond and Resin Bond. You can also order directly from our store (Mainland US ONLY) HERE If you haven't ever used Channel Bond you are truly missing out. Channel Bond is a one part system that's used to bond polycarbonate to polycarbonate, especially polycarbonate to Plasco Trim Cap. Many people shy away from using polycarbonate as channel letter sign faces because they have had issues or problems bonding trim cap to polycarbonate or have heard there are issues from the rumorville. Makrolon / Sheffield Plastics highly recommends using Channel Bond to fabricate channel letter faces with their polycarbonate! Well I can tell you most of the issues people have had in the past with either by their own experience, or from heard from rumorville of other shop experiences in short.....Is simply not true. You can bond polycarbonate to trim cap but you have to do it right, and give it time. Most of the time people who have failed to bond the two materials did so because they bonded the materials incorrectly!!! Most of the time they simply applied the adhesive on top where the two materials are meeting, and NOT where the two surface faces actually touch each other. When shops don't do it correctly and have a failure it can lead to a misnomer that it cannot be done. The best part about Channel Bond is it's a one part system, I said a 1 part system!!! No need to go out and purchase a special gun that combines a two part system, NO need to buy nozzle tips, NO need to throw away good half spent cartridges because it's already been activated. With Channel Bond you just use Hypo Needle applicator and pour what you don't use back in the container, simple!!! No wasting!!! We are stocking Channel Bond in Quarts and Gallons, and here is a small job where we showed some uses of Channel Bond LINK Channel Bond a one part system that can be used in place of Lords 7550 Two-Part Urethane Adhesive, Lords 7556 Urethane Adhesive Two-Part Urethane Adhesive, Weld-On / SCIGRIP 58, Weld-On / SCIGRIP 55 For any order or inquiry, or for a full product and price list you can call us at (858) 880-1400 or email us at orders@thesignsyndicate.com You can also order directly from our store HERE
  11. Here's a short video demonstration we finally got around to uploading on Youtube. A lot of people still don't know what Channel Bond is and how they can greatly benefit from it's use in the shop and in sign applications, I know when I first heard of it which was not that long ago I had no idea what it is, and what it could do. Makrolon / Sheffield Plastics highly recommends using Channel Bond to fabricate channel letter faces with their polycarbonate! So, here's a small video we did on that. Hope it's of some use and answers some questions Channel Bond a one part system that can be used in place of Lords 7550 Two-Part Urethane Adhesive, Lords 7556 Urethane Adhesive Two-Part Urethane Adhesive, Weld-On / SCIGRIP 58, Weld-On / SCIGRIP 55 The Sign Syndicate is now shipping Channel Bond and Resin Bond through FedEx Ground, a info thread on Channel Bond can be found here http://www.thesignsyndicate.com/forums/index.php?/topic/6064-channel-bond-now-shipping For orders you can call us at (858) 880-1400 or email us at orders@thesignsyndicate.com
  12. Just finished up a modest sized job that was interesting from the beginning. Originally we were going to use this staging/trussel from a previous tenant then it changed to a removal of the old sign from a previous tenant to adding the new sign on the lower floor. As some of you know I prefer to go neon for channel letters but for this particular job I listed it to be LED because of the original scope of the sign being to high up and access wasn't to.....accessible. The response from the client was unusual. This particular client who has multiple chains in AZ and in other states wanted nothing more to do with LEDs, in fact he said it MUST be "Neon". He started out using Neon as a light source, converted over with each new location, but after multiple problems with channel letters, pylon signs filled with LEDs, enough was enough for him. No longer did he want his image held in darkness. I had a good LED spec's out too, but that was okay because I LOVE Neon, and it's coming back! Trust me!! It's slow to coming back because there are a lot of shops out there that just don't know what their doing when it comes to neon, never did, and probably don't have the talented install crew to do it right. So to them, Neon IS the problem, not the lack of proper talent. LEDs have a tendency to create laziness of some shops becoming a Wham Bam thank you Ma'am now pay me the installations done. Besides, some have even laid off that talented crew who could do neon for people who can only peel and stick, and who can drill a 1/2" hole. Alright enough of the side jokes. I'm not a big fan of Day/Night signs, have did some in the past and liked using using transparent acrylic and diffusion film because I can't stand the day/night acrylic. So this was my first time using the 3M perf film which I said I would like to use one day over my old preferred process. He sent me a snap shot of a sign that was a friend of his, he said give me the perforated stuff!!! So began the journey! The journey of Day/Night. First I had to find and use a VERY bright light source. Not so hard to find that.....well.....let's take a step back. It is if you don't know where to look! If you want to use a Tri-Phosphor CCFL lamp not many of the usual sign suppliers even stock it. For this job I wanted to use FMS's Brillite again. Want bright? Serious Bright? I mean....serious Bright, then it's time to put away the conventional 15mm and somtimes 13mm glass and 12mm up. Try and find that at the usual Montroy's, N.Glantz & Interstates.....Good Luck!!!! But these days that's okay because FMS is now a glass mfg who you can buy direct. Drop a dime and a few days later the UPS guy shows up with over 50 lbs of glass with no breakage and a small charge of shipping. Shipping that would have been quantified had you called a sign supplier who would in turn drop a dime and drop ship it to you and collect a sales commish. Out with old...... .....and begin of the new!! Want a bright sign, just add a Brighton. My favorite trim cap....PLASCO. A trim cap that is sold here on the Sign Syndicate.com!! The 3M black perforated film with my choice plastic, Plaskolite 2447 LD With using the bright Brillite BL6500 Triphosphor Lamps, you need a good reliable power source, so enter the new Transco To Go UNT Tanks. Self variable/ adjusting transformers that will adjust to the load. With two models the 9kV series that goes from 3k to 9k and the 15kV model that will adjust from 10,550v to 15kv. Installation day. Even facing the sun light the Brilite tri-lamps put up a fight all of it's own. Hard to see, but used with Transco's silicone Easy Caps & Boots, along with their silicone GTO, all sold here on the Sign Syndicate.com
  13. Have to do a plug because I'm impressed with the results. I've never used Channel Bond I've only heard the name in the past and when I heard the name I thought it was a metal adhesive of some sort. So I did a quick demo/sample/test of bonding Poly-carb to Poly carb in a small 90 degree angle, and I bonded PLASCO trim cap to polycarb in a letter "L". I let it cure overnight and damn it's a strong bond. I can't bend the stuff to break the bond, I'm probably going to have to have a hammer or do something very violent to break it. From what I understand Channel Bond is the equivalent of Weld-On 55 or 56 which is a two part system, where you need to buy the gun, the tips, the two small cartridges one of part A and B, and once you use it or activate it that's it, this seems costly. With Channel Bond it's a one part system, so you just pour it back if and when you're done, what I have is a huge Quart that will go a long way. Pretty Nice! What I've discovered is Channel Bond is not a West Coast Product, in fact not many of heard of it very few have. Many though it was a metal bond too, same as I, my guess is it's because Weld-On and others are West Coast because of factory locations. I'm sure all products and 1 or 2 part systems have their pro's and con's but...I'm impressed. So anyway, I just thought I'd post my thoughts of it.
