The reason we added this product line to this board is that we learned that a lot of sign companies do sign and lighting maintenance. We also learned that several sign companies want to expand their business in these down markets. The AoTuroaLED system is a natural extension for sign companies. The AoTuroaLED Affiliate system already has over 100 people signed up to promote and sell the product. You will make 10% of the sale of the product as well as whatever cost you negotiate to do the installation/conversion. A typical retail store or office has 50-100 fixtures. A High rise usually has over 1000 fixtures. There is great earnings potential here.

Manuel, remember in most states and cities a sign company can not just walk in a work on interior commercial lighting with out being a licensed master electrician a way different exam than a sign electrician. If you are in a highly union city and the electrical union gets word you are doing commercial electrical work they will be out for blood.

You dont need to be an electrician to do this retrofit - according to UL this is a retrofit that any maintenance guy can do. Besides - even by just recommending this to a customer, you make % of each sale. We have several sales people at sign companies starting to make quite a bit off "pushing" this product to end customers...across several states.

UL has no authority over city ordinances on who can do commercial interior lighting so that is useless info from UL.

So you are telling me that Herb, the maintenance guy in a high rise building, the one who handles all maintenance - he is a qualified electrician? I think not.

According to Home Depot/Lowes their is a big business in selling fluorescent tubes and ballasts to the Do It Yourself market. I assume these rows at their stores are only with fully licensed electricians...right? If that is the case - why do they have so much customer support in those aisles to help the small business owners who are wanting to replace bulbs and ballasts?

Sounds like you are not interested in this - ok. I guess I learned a long time ago - just because I didnt believe or understand something - it didnt mean it wasnt happening.

I didn't say it was not a good idea or I did not like it. What I said was "be careful"! In some cities ones that I know of, if you are caught inside doing commercial electrical work without the proper license not a sign erectors license you can get a pretty heavy fine. The guys from the IBEW International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers don't want you taking work away from them and will not hesitate to turn you in. Like I said I like the idea but be careful and check the city and state codes first.

I don't want to get off track from the original post and reasons for it but as a maintenance worker you are being employed by your employer and performing work in the work place (not selling contract work). As a electrical sign contractor you do need a electricians license to do any general lighting work for interior or exterior not associated with signs. In my state I'm a C45 (Electrical Signs), I would need a C10 (Electricians License) to do this kind of work, e.g. retrofitting old T12 fixtures to T-8's for a supermarket.

But, a lot of sign companies do sign and lighting and carry both licenses. I can get a C10, I just choose not to with the added expense and not an area I want to expand in.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. - Winston Churchill

This reminds me of some of the so called tech articles in the sign trade magazines. They say all you have to do to build a cabinets is buy this her knock don kit. Glue it together with epoxy ad a few of those wire nut thingies and presto you have built a electric sign. Grab a ladder and go screw it to the wall and now you a installer to.

Never mind no sign permit, no elec permit, no insurance, no electrical license, no biz license,no engineering and no UL. I forgot (prolly more) the polluter permit. EPA and OSHA requirements But otherwise its just that easy.

the OP idea is nice if you are qualified to do the work.
