UL Sectional Drawings ???

Anyone know for sure if UL is actually doing sectional drawings like this one that came across my desk - or someone using UL logo illegally ?

Also - notice the two disconnect switches? One for the 12v on each letter? Little overkill?

Where did you get it from? Looks like someones shop drawings. A lot of people use the UL logo on their drawings for permit purposes, the building departments want to see this.

Came with some sign drawings from an architect. With the location of this symbol - it looks like it would be presumed that UL did the drawings - and that is my question. Having someone on a drawing showing or stating that things are done according to UL is one thing --- but blatantly trying to allude that UL did the drawings - not sure about that.

Also question the switch on the 12v side --- which would obviously have to be rated for 12v, probably be a double throw, and when I was at ICON, I found that there aren't many that are UL for that purpose.

I probably think that they are trying to say the products that they are using are ul, but in the other hand UL does require for your low voltage to have a seperate disconnect switch, but only on the first letter of the sign if it's more than one.

?? Has to have a disconnect switch, period. Switch can be for the power supply - either in site of sign, or, if not, has to be a lockable disconnect?

Yeah, maybe i didn't explain my self right , when having the power supply remote we use two,one for the primary and one for your low voltage.

Okay, so in doing that --- do you use a double throw switch to kill both legs of the 12v? And which brand did you find was UL for the 12v --- since most aren't ?

Gary:

At McGill Marketing Group we do not manufacture channel letters, but we are a UL approved shop. Recently we manufactured a large internally illuminated sign cabinet. We were unsure about getting a sectional cabinet UL approved but we were. It required some special labels from UL. Of course, they charge us $25.00 for the shipping and processing of ten labels, which was twice the cost of the labels themselves. Bottom line - I know we can do sectional signage that is UL approved.

Hope that helps.

Mike from McGill
