Good morning guys!

Have a question - I have a cabinet that is 28" deep (It's a 5' x 10' - had to make it that deep to fit the customer's existing set up) that is going in a multi tenant sign - Customer wants L.E.D. instead of flourenscent lamps - What are you guys using for double faced signs like this?? The L.E.D. lamps, or the same stuff you are using in channel?? We use those in single face all of the time, but wasn't sure how it would show in a cabinet that size.

Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as always!

Thanks!

Angie

Our Axiom AXLE9XB LEDs that we stock here on the SS. You won't find a brighter, or less expensive LED when it comes to Large Channel Letter or Sign Cabinets. Most importantly, THEIR Nichia LEDs & we have been testing them here on the Sign Syndicate's Great White Hope since 2008 for 36K hours or 13 signs years if left on 8 hours a day !

Alright, so I spammed it!

My first question would be to find out the "why" of the client using leds? Energy savings? Teach him the facts, and use Voltarc's 50,000 hour triphosphor lamps, with an electronic ballast. If its the "cool" factor - then, oh well. For sure use two rows of lamps - one for each face. Use a high output, such as axiom, along with axiom power supplies. Verify the proper distance from your face, and distance between rows of leds.

He heard from "other people" that there would be less service issues/costs with L.E.D. - We have been unable to talk him into anything else.

That's the typical bullheaded response that comes from end users as well as Custom Sign Shops. :P

T8/T12 tri-phosphor lamps are the best option and least expensive, Axiom is the best LED alternative.

Where we are located. Clients are more likely to use leds now a days for the maintenance savings aspect. But we are unique, Vancouver BC, most other areas have a much more likely life expectancy then us do to the extreme rainfalls we get. And wind whether it be a leaf blowing onto the electrode or the rain and gunk blocking the drainholes in signs. We really do need waterproof high quality leds out here.
