  1. Well well woke up today to 4" of fresh snow and by tomorrow will have 3-4 more and some ice. Nothing like service work in the snow and ice!!!!!

Who needs to take the screws out of channel letter faces just bump em' or look at them wrong and the break right off!! Maybe I have to slide out some big cab faces who hoo!!!!

  2. I am sure the box with all those LED systems may be running a little warm...I am sure it can help keep hell from freezing over...so I doubt ISA.

Count me and the wife in on seeing see other parts of Vegas and the great white hope

  3. AAA has the best solution, a properly documented and signed contract stating the terms and conditions, including late payment fees, interest, etc.

I normally get a 50% deposit with the balance due upon receipt. However, when I choose not to, I always make sure the client signs the contract.

Considering these tough times, if I was to extend credit to a client and he told me he could not pay, I would send the bill right over to my attorney to take whatever steps are deemed appropriate.

Although I love what I do, I do it to make money.

    Checkers

I think what most of us are talking about is not making signs for the end user but doing installs and such for national maint. companies and they will not pay up front, and they alway "dangle" more jobs as a carrot. That is the main dilema. Contracts are nice and legal and yes you can sue them but as the old saying goes "You can sue anybody for anything, you can even sue the pope for being a bastard, but that doesn't mean you are going to get a nickle"

  4. I was talking to a friend who works in another industry, and he is also having a hard time collecting payment from customers. I believe the economy is affecting a lot of small businesses who survive on a monthly cash flow. We are finding ourselves in a tough position of landing new work and also protecting our company by ensuring our clients can pay on time.

That being said, I would always protect yourself or company and require a 50% deposit with a signed contract or PO.

A deposit isn't always possible when working on a National account or vendor who keeps promising you more work in the future. I know the Project manager I am working with on a nat’l acct would pay us if they could, but it seems their Corp office is holding back payment. They have more work coming up that we want and the PM wants us to do for them, but not if we have to keep sending emails or making phone calls for payment.

The first thing that crosses my mind when we don’t receive payment is did we do a good job and complete the work 100%. And my first phone call to inquire about payment always starts by me asking “is everything ok with the job?”

The hard part is sending out the email telling a person/company you like working with that you will not do anymore work for them because of their late payments.

    so true a catch 22

  5. Hello sign gurus,

I create stunning 3D logos for LED signage and my prices start at $25 per logo. I offer special discounts for multiple logos. LED sign companies can offer animated 3D logos as part of their sales packages.

    Please check out my bloog with logo samples here;

    http://3dnewsfx.blogspot.com/

I create logos from supplied vector artwork and I can also custom design still and animated 3d logos.

Like many designers across the country I was laid off over a year ago and I am trying to build my freelance clientele.

I have 17 years in the sign business as a sign designer, fabricator and installer so I understand every aspect of the sign industry.

I also have 10 years in broadcast design. I offer unbeatable rates with lighting fast turnaround.

I can also design signage on a per project basis.

    Thank you for reading!

    Regards, Chris

Explain how it works for LED signage?

I can see for web uses they are really great

I might send you ours to do

  6. We occasionally get the odd illuminated sign on a crane around here. There's tons of cranes out, but budgets are tight - which explains why it's usually a backlit sign box or banner... last time I saw channel letters was early '07.

Perfect example of LEDs being the better option as I don't think neon would like all that vibration...

If you have a bunch of vibration on one of those cranes you have bigger things to worry about than the neon or LED choice

  7. This is such BS, $80,000?!?!?!?! I know this neighbohood and sign, and know the sign company who's storing this sign. I even contacted Harold Koenig to be a consultant to represent him and the community to his Sign Company, problem is the sign company is a large member of his association. That same sign company has been making repairs on the sign for years, you can't tell me that they can't get it right after all these years?

What a crock! What a way to grease their own

How big is the thing? 80,000 it must be huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!
