  1. I'll throw this option in. Pictured below seems like a cross between the two. Saw this on signweb, may or may not still be for sale. But curious about something like this as well. I know basket can stay on during transport, so it may work as a hybrid service truck as well. Thoughts? I know from experience trying to shove too many responsibilities onto one tool will leave you coming up short, but hey, any chance to stretch a dollar ;)
  2. Thanks for the valuable input Paul. I just had to laugh at the unintentional pun.....
  3. We do a good amount of service type / shopping center work. So starting to think that bucket truck would be the way to go. So far only has been 3-4 times a year I wish I had a rig that can pick and has stinger leads in the basket. Managing 30ft of leads from a bucket can be awesome!
  4. We're in the market for a new (to us) truck. Our 97 ford/telsta a28d has had it!! It's been in the shop more than on the road lately. Had my mind set on another small chassis utility body truck with a bucket mounted on it. Plus side is units we're looking at have material handlers for picking situations. Most of them are 800lb and under but that's fine. We typically need to pick a channel letter/raceway or light box typically in the 300-400lb range. Anyways - I've seen a couple Wilkie ladders and am intrigued. Is the ladder useful? Any disadvantages to not having an actual basket and instead the little ledge that pops out? Most of those ladders have higher picking capacity. vs
  5. Well I got some numbers in and say far UL is the cheapest... .Waiting to speak with both UL and MET to see why they are $2k apart!
  6. We're a small company in NY state. Almost never are we required to have labeled electrical signs. We do not work in NYC. Few municipalities in the area have the requirement buried somewhere in their code but most inspectors don't even know what to look for or don't bother. Once or twice we've had to order signs from a listed shop in order to work in an area, but still made money, and it was only once or twice. Recently as we get referred more and more we've been coming across work that would have us manufacturing for other parts of the country where it is required, or work inside malls where it is almost always required. I'll be reaching out to UL MET and ETL regarding pricing and the process. But from what I hear I'm not sure if we have enough potential business to justify the extra overhead. It's sort of a chicken before the egg situation I'm thinking. If we don't list, we can't get the work. If we do list, we could get some more work, but not sure if enough...
  7. We currently send our bucket truck out with two men in it for X amount per hour regardless of what they're doing as long as it's not a pre-quoted installation. I feel like this may not work all the time and wanted to get a feel for what everyone else does. My concern is that we're leaving money on the table. For example, a truck and two men charge the same amount if they're haning banners one poles (simple task) or troubleshooting an electrical repair and swapping out parts (more skill and knowledge involved). Thoughts?
  8. We were lucky considering what is going on in Staten Island, Rockaways, Jersey Shore etc.....just a lot of lost power north of the city. Deffenitely seen a bump in service work. Came across an interesting one. We quoted this 3-4 years ago actually. Restaurant owner wanted old wooden sign taken down and replaced with new sign. We were told they were going with a company that quoted 1/4 of our price....turns out competing company thought that wrapping the old wood sign in aluminum was a great idea. Owner thought they took the old sign down and put a new one up!! Pictures show what happened when I touched the sign! My hand went through it. If it wasn't for Sandy exposing this problem, this entire sign would have just fallen off the building right onto their front entrance.
  9. We're looking for whole sections of powder coated aluminum fluted posts. ~20' sections.
  10. Normal supplier cannot handle these, looking for someone interested on bidding 4", .6" stroke reverse lit polished letters....
  11. Thank you for the replies. Dealing with a rep at Pattison. Nick
  12. I'm coming up with a Patterson Signs in California and South Carolina......
  13. We deal with a Honda dealer in town. They asked if we could find a replacement for this sign. We have an extruder we could send this out to but wondering if anyone knows who makes these and if they can be purchased.
