We have heaps of examples of sign companies large and small cutting corners - so many with fire hazards I sometimes think they should include fire extinguishers with every shipment for installation!
This board is a great forum & you should be commended for raising issue- many are too scared for fear of losing business or otherwise - good job to you & stick to your guns!

We at Axiom have lost customers who we now BELIEVE to be buying cheap knock-off LEDs. Other small sign shops have downsized - many have sold their equipment (to make channel letters, etc.) to recoup $$. It's a real mess in some areas.

Yes, "going green" should probably give credit to Kermit the Frog. I see so many people talking about "being green" - at least there is more awareness!

It is pretty much complied with on a voluntary basis. When you walk the beach the turtle nests are marked out as soon as they are laid and watched by groups for the duration. Its not something most here think of as an imposition.
Met a guy last night from NE FL who said his brother is Fish & Wildlife officer who guards nests against poachers!
We are workign with University of FL to help non-profits & schools get AXIOM LEDs (amber) in their buildings to protect sea turtles. Many are not aware lights across the street & inland can still hurt wildlife.

One of our longtime members has passed. Some may know him as Matt Vipond of Vipond Sign Stone (Pennsylvania) , his profile name here was mvipond.
I'm very shocked, he was a very young guy, so sad to hear of the sudden passing. Our thoughts & prayers go out to his family.

It may sound wierd but we do not have a stereo in the house. The only time at home there is music is the alarm. I do get to listen to the radio for an average of 3-4 hours a day while driving to and fro. work. While bending is when I also listen. There is a TV going in the house at all times though.
Our alarm clock is a barking 14-year old Shih Tzu - she's a ball-buster - thinks she's a Rottweiler!

Music, Music ah yes, Right now I need to listen to Nickelback...They are ass kickin' to say the least. No we do not listen to the censored version. Going to Vegas to see them in concert just for chuckles. Can't wait, not bad for a downeast Maine-ahh.....Old Signsmith
Have a 48 yr. old friend who is grandfather. 1 day he was driving & jammn' to Nickelback. His 21 yr old daughter was in car & was shocked & HATED that they liked the same music!
I love Shock Value - very underrated - always appreciated!

Today is Friday - must admit my first concert was Captain & Tenille - you who can forget those classics like Muscrat Love - must be how I became an animal lover.
i was 8 yrs old & was rockin' to Rick Springfield, Billy Joel, Bay City Rollers, Andy Gibb, Joan Jett, Peaches & Herb, then on to J Geils, Madonna, Sugar Hill Gang, Journey, Loverboy, then on to REM, INXS (pre-reorganization), Oasis, Def Leppard, Van Halen, The Smiths, etc.
Butthole Surfers (love Hairway to Steven, cover of Stairway to Heaven), Fugazi, and eventually U2, Sugarcubes, Norah Jones, STP, and now, dare i say, Black Eyed Peas - yes I love Fergie - she's young, confident & rocks in a boy-band.
Have a great weekend - but tomorrow I am going to see the band I have always dreamed of seeing - Depeche Mode - I am a Gen X 80s junkie who was into "Alternative" before there were Goth kids, tattoos, body piercings, etc. We listened to British music that made our parents crazy.
LOVED MTV - feels like yesterday I watched 1st video.................................that was when VH1 played "Oldies"...................................now the music they play makes me feel like I am old enough to love Wayne Newton & Lawrence Welk....................oh yeah..........................probably most youngin's don't know who they are - maybe Donny & Marie?? Cher??

Ever Hear of Title 22 in CA? (No, not Proposition 8) It states it is illegal to throw away CFLs in ANY regular old trashcan. Nice law, yes, probably a good thing, but difficult & is it ever enforced?
In FL, there are oodles of laws protecting Sea Turtles related to Lighting.

That is PERFECT example as to why this forum is so important - so many people think just because someone is PUBLISHED &/or has a PhD behind his/her name that makes person an authority. It is a good start, but not carte blanche. So many people have real world experience that counts as much if not more.
Thanks for showing you (and others) READ & stay up to date - on a side note how many of us have DOCTORS who went to medical school 20 or 30 years ago and they haven't learned anything since?!!??
