  1. Hello...thought i would pipe in.

Yes we still operate under the name of Fire House Neon LLC with a DBA of LED Authority.

As we all know in the sign trades we have a lot of substrates and solvents. In my business we ship both LED signs as well as neon all over the world and the USA, so you can imagine all the shipping materials that are needed as well.

Alone all by themselves they are safe, Not sure what started the fire at this time, but as you can imagine if one item catches fire it consumes the other items, This was the case. The fire department had a VERY VERY VERY slow response time, nearly 25 minutes before they arrived after the initial call was made.

I stood outside and listened to countless explosions of the propane tanks, the gas filled generators, and God knows what else I heard explode. I watched as 15 years of collecting and building my sign company burn up in flames. All was lost.

As bad as the damages are, the lost nearly a million in damages...I have to be thankful no one was injured and surrounding buildings were not heavily damaged.

the irony in the business name. Post 9/11 I opened my business knowing I would be joining my local fire department...we use fires to make our glass....so Fire House Neon had a ring to it...I served for a little over 10 years and had to devote more time to the business, Had i still been on the department...I would have ran down to the station and could have had the fire under control instead of the 25 minute wait. Without the proper training I think i would have been foolish to try to stop the fire with a fire extinguisher, if that had been the case I wouldn't be writing this response...my widow would be.

  2. the last i need to say about WatchFire to clear the slate of my level of involvement from them...

After hypeing thier products to my clients for what seemed like months and months, maybe closer to a year or so, we finally got a bite, and had a couple sets sold...( size, pitch not important ).

When we placed our order with the main office, It was then we were told that " our agreement " had been terminated and we were no longer authorized to sell thier products...We didnt fit thier business model we were told...

Last I heard three years later they sent one of thier clearing houses to see if i wanted to sell them my company.

Not sure if everyone knows that watchfire is owned by a VERY large company...its just dollars and cents to them at this point...not the satisfaction that you have helped a business owner save money and get the job done.

I know i am listed here as a neon shop.... if you search in google...LED SIGN, led signs, electronic message center, and a bunch of other common phrases...usually on the top of the list you will find www.ledauthority.com this is my other company..

We can talk for hours on the led sign companys, manufactures...ect :)

  3. you dont need to convince me...

we dont want to discuss The LED sign company, ( optec dealer ) the reports on the BBB website and another site to check out is www.ripoffreport.com ( i am not advertising thier site...but you need to check them out )

  4. Many years ago my company was a rep for Optec. WAS being the opperative word here.

At the time it was being ran by the owner, After giving thier prices to hundreds of my perspective clients, after getting our first confirmed order, Optec cancelled our distributor agreement, leaving us hanging.

    tread lightly with them

If they send a company rep to your office, don't reveal any information that you dont want to lose..

lastly...Their products are all manufactured over seas, but you will find thier prices to be at the top with watchfire and the alike.

when I had a visit from one of thier sales managers we requested pictures to aid in the sales process...i would say that one sign out of 5 had pixels that were not working properly, from what i have gather over time, they have a lot of issues with these...I for one am not sold on the Hybrid technology.

to recap...foudn this message from 2005

I would take a second look at the product from china..willing to bet it is Optech displays. Yeah I might be alittle biased, since I work for Daktroncs...But a distributor in the panhandle of Florida has been selling Optech displays for 2 years now and is having lots of problems. One key problem is the pixels are going out. Plus it can take up to 8 weeks to get replacement parts for there units.

  6. I'm booked across the street at the Hilton for Thursday and Friday nights. Hadn't planned on anything special outside a couple of planned appointments, but if there are enough people going and willing to get together, perhaps I can organize something last minute.

Quick show of hands - who is attending the show and who is willing to attend a get together?

  7. So we were wondering if anyone was going to ISA in Orlando in April.

We thought about doing a follow up cocktail party like the one we did in Las Vegas last year with Snake Babe...but to be in touch with the "Florida Scene" we thought we might change the special guest to Alligator Princess or maybe see if we could get all 19 of the Tiger Woods Girls to appear at our party!!!

    Anyone going?

where at and what time is the party?

  8. ISA is less than a week away...so far there has been posts asking if there is a party or a get together...so far no definate plans have been set in stone...

was thinking...maybe Eurocomm or EGL could host a party?

i would plan a party, but the best activity i can think of at the moment is "pin the steak on the alligator" or one of my favorites..go to the "hood" find a crack head...tell them you have 100 dollars and see who can run faster...first one to lose the race wins the prize....

i am out of ideas....anyone else have anything in mind?

  9. i dont want to buy a 50 pound box of 6mm clear tubulation glass....i use very little of it over the past 5 years...maybe 6 rods all together.

my manifold doesnt like 5mm glass to the o-rings....I need a piece of 6mm to get a good seat...

so looking to either buy a pound or two of it....maybe trade some 5mm for it....

    thanks in advance

    matt

  10. thanks for the info gary

i also had a message sent to me in reguards to a former daco employee...at the moment i lost his number, so this post might not be that helpful..except the meaning behind it.

Mike, left without a job, and instead of jumping on the "woe is me" band wagon...he pulled himself up by the boot straps, and started to try and fill the void that daco has left behind. Several times during the conversation he made mention almost embarrassed that he has started his new endeavor at home. Although the selection at the moment might not be as large as Daco once offered, but its a start.

I myself have started several successful home based businesses..my current company was started in my pole barn, ( now i have a piece of shit lil building..but atleast its mine) i will post more info when i get his number again

  11. i wont get myself into a "like or dislike" in a public forum

just thought i would do a shout out here and see if anyone had a source for manifold cleaning/repair...i will look around the net and see if i can find someone and post back

  12. Many years ago ( about 5 now ) i was the proud purchaser of a complete Daco pumping system...thankfully over the last 5 years i have had only one problem...they staff there was quickly able to correct the issue and get my system back to be within 3 days...

Does anyeone have a recomendation they could share?

i would say in another 5 i want to have my manifold utlrasonically cleaned...the DP cleaned ect...dont know who to trust now

  13. after walking the vegas show for hours on end...my feet were too tired to go to the party in vegas....next time i will rent a skooter. ( gives me a idea for the orlando show :) )

ok...so is there a party this year? i know there should be a wake for all the Voltarc users out there ( raises hand )... not that i have anything against EGL.

  14. I have been MIA from the site...my excuse is i have had way more work than i can handle...

i took a peek back in the "other neon bbs" a while back...i now know what a bbs ghost town looks like...

like i said i have been busy working....but wanted to jump in to see if there were any ISA parties or get togethers planned?

  15. My partner said i was too busy to go...but i will tell her i am going to the store....

just a second...NASA JPL is on the phone wanting to place an order....be right back...

they just bought another countdown clock,,,,you would think they had enought of them....but i appreciate thier order just the same :)
