  4. Is this Lori, as in Chubby's love?? If so - Have a Happy Birthday !! Hope Brian takes you out for a lovely dinner.

If its a different Lori ---- well, have a great birthday also!

    Gary,

Yes, it's Lori, Chubby's wife. Thank you for remembering my birthday! How are you?

  5. Hey it's your original post. You are free to see it how you want. I respect that completely. But in reality that's what freedom is all about. The last I knew thats what a forum is suppose to be about. I generally stay off these. It seems that every BB ever created for the sign industry ends up being controled by like minded individuals not open to differences. If everyone agrees then nobody learns a new perspective. That's what got the Nazi's in trouble and every other dictatorial, or "supremacy of idea" societies since then.

You know a "dictator" is someone that forces his or her beliefs onto others. You are entitled to your opinion as well as Eric and Brian are. No one should be compared to murderers for expressing his or her thoughts. You were a little bold with your statement!

  6. Did You Say......Missed payments?

No Problem, install this to the primary

    Introducing MR. Collector

    collection.jpg

They will run that check over to you! :fight (11):

Where do we get this product? HAHA! We request 50% down and 50% upon completion. We typically do not have any problems, but occasionally. If we really suspect a cheat, we will ask for 100% up front. If the customer is serious, they will pay. If not, it weeds out the riff raff!

  7. We aren't offering discounts, but instead are giving them the option of paying the deposit then splitting the balance into 2 or 3 monthly payments with the first one due at completion. We do this after offering leasing by others.

We bury the interest in the estimate. We may be higher, but the customer likes the idea of making payments rather than all of it at install.

If a payment is missed then interest is tacked on again. You have to be able to go with your gut on who you offer it to though. So far we have been pretty lucky and the payments keep coming in.

The companies that are low balling the jobs can't afford, or won't, offer payment plans.

That sounds like a good plan. Do you ever have any issues collecting the the monthly payments after the project is completed?

  8. Randy, the signman has long been the scape goat of most unsuccessful businesses. Most upstart businesses fail EARLY in there plan with there SBA guru who helps them get the loan. They fail to understand the significance and importance of investing in signage.....the result.....the sign man get's the crumbs.....he is expected to save the whale at the least amount of cost and to do it in two days or less.

My suggestion to all the sign guys is to DON'T cut your prices. I am sure you all have a pretty good understanding of what it costs to operate your business. The price of tea in China has nothing to do with the cost of sign in Georgia.

Sign and advertising planning needs to be a the focal point of all new and old businesses. All of you can obviously tell who believes in advertising and who don't. Signs are CHEAP enough.

    Just my opinion.

    David,

Very well said. As a fellow "estimator," I agree with you 100%!

  9. My family and I went and started Memorial Day Early on Sunday. Monday is usually a very busy here in San Diego and hectic day let alone trying to find parking at most of the cemeteries.

Sunday we visited a few cemeteries where our family members who are veterans are buried, either died of old age or died in war. This is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever been to, and I've only been to very few, but it's more of a military cemetery/memorial park is here in San Diego Point Loma. I think this is where they filmed part of Saving Private Ryan.

Anyway, Thought I'd share a few pics. We always try to come out to visit a few times a year.

Check out this guy, don't know him but he's real close to where one of my uncles is buried. This guy was in three wars, The Spanish American War, WW I & WWII!

Have to love the view of the San Diego Bay with the Memorial Park

    This is the ocean front

You can hear the surf brealing on the cliffs from here

In some ways it's sad and depressing to visit this place, but in a lot more ways I also feel very proud, and very appreciative. There is always that sense of walking through sacred and holy ground.

Hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend.

    Erik,

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for remembering our veterans!

  10. I forgot to mention I got many phone calls too from these vendors.

But yes, thanks for the response Kenny! :fnd (8):

    Kenny,

Thank you for addressing the issues with the sales contacts. We, like Erik, received phone calls in addition to the emails. Have a great day!

    Thanks!

  11. Let's turn the faucet off, it's been weeks and you're still flooding my email with ads and spam from vendors at the show of whom I've never visited or stopped by.

"Thanks for stopping by booth 546*#". I was never there!

Next time I'll create a yahoo address right before I register, one I'll use just once. :focus:

I also keep receiving emails from numerous vendors that I never visited in Las Vegas. No one should be allowed to contact your email unless that vendor scanned your badge or you requested information. The ISA is operating in the same manner as telemarketing companies! Enough with the annoying emails, ISA! This is not helping your members. It is aggravating them!

  12. I had something similar with labels. I knew right away it was a scam and I had a bit of fun with him. He certainly had to work hard to get what he thought was a sucker. WRONGO. I also have had a few calls over the last year from a TTY operator with someone that was was calling from overseas that turned out to be a scam. He wanted an awning and wanted it shipped to Africa. I got the attorney generals office involved in that one. It was becoming quite annoying not to mention obviousely that would have never panned out. It was for an orphanage or something like that. It takes all kinds

Good for you! I'm glad that you recognized the scam an gave that creep a hard time!

  13. Yes, be careful of this scam. We had a similar incident back in August 2007 where a person called " Alfred Wayne" contacted us about manufacturing 50 banners that read "JEHOVAH SHAMA" The scam had all the same conditions that you described. We ended up reporting this to the local FBI office, and they said that his type of scam is "Nigerian" and that there are so many different people involved that it is hard to track the source. BEWARE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS! This "Alfred Wayne" uses several different alias'.

  14. Hey everyone!

This is Katie...the bride of Lane!

This was the best expo we have ever attended!

The show itself was pretty blah, but the Syndicates (your new Nationality, by-the-way) were phenomenal!

I count on Lane to keep me abreast of the activities and events here on the Syndicate and he did not mention a get together with Manuel and Stephanie!

Had I known, I would have registered to attend! And from what I have read here, it was truly our loss! :damm:

It was great meeting everyone and putting a face to all the comments on this forum!

I know I am using a lot of exclamation points at the end of each sentence, but I am excited!!!!

Erik and Kgirl were tops and what happened Saturday at the New York New York ESPN bar between us and Brian and Lori will stay our Vegas experience forever!! :gathering: Everyone else, don't ask because I won't tell!! Just know that Brian has some interesting tattoos, everyone is funny as hell and we had a complete blast without much chatter about the industry! :butt:

Gary and Rod...you two are the real thing!!! It was such a pleasure talking with both of you at length and we hope to work with you, Rod, in the near future: you are a real class act! :cowboy:

Sean...what can I say? You tried to keep up with that demanding waitress at the closing party and kudos to your amazing effort!! You are a real party trooper and funny as hell to boot! :fhangover:

Marco and Daisy...I hope you found who you were looking to find at the expo and got out in time! We didn't get to talk much, but I hope that changes on the next trip, umkay? :P

Scotty and "entourage"...if we are out in Texas this summer near Austin, we are DEFINITELY going to sing some karaoke with you and yours!! What can be said besides YOU ROCK!! :filleloupgarou:

Indian Bill (your new nickname that I made up): you are quite a character and your stories are hilarious! We hope to see you again at the next show! :friends:

To anyone I missed, my apologies! There were so many and it went so fast that most is a blur (not to mention the alcohol affects when I normally do not drink!)!

I hope to have used enough exclamation points and emoticons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You folks made the trip on the Indian Chief worth the pain and suffering caused from the almost 24 hours of riding in less than 72 hours that we were gone!! :dizzy:

But, just so you know, next time...we're FLYING!!! :crazy_pilot:

Hey Katie! I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed meeting you and Lane. Brain and I had a great time last Saturday night with you both, Eric, and Kristy. It was a blast! Look forward to next time! I guess I like exclamation points also!

  15. Hey! I just wanted to let everyone know what a great time I had in Las Vegas. I really enjoyed meeting everyone-Kristy & Eric, Manuel & Stephanie, Marco & Daisy, Garrett & Holly, Gary & Rod, Lane & Katie, Pat & the boys from Indiana. And Sean (the party master from way back), it was great to party with you again, just like in AC. I would like to send a special "THANK YOU" to Manuel and Stephanie for the hospitality and the wonderful dinner and reception. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again!
