  1. Ok I will bite.   I feel they do cover sign companies in the USA quite well.  I do wish they would showcase some actual shops and personnel instead of featuring signs that use products that are major advertisers.   Other than electrical components at least for us are mainly assembled using USA based materials and machinery.

  2. We have a agent that shops both our Liability and W/C every time it comes due.   We have no events and are in the best brackets.  Dont just renew every year.    We had the same carrier for years and our ex lazy brooker never did anything for us. We tried our current guy and he cut rates buy a lot and kept the same carrier for W/C.

    Shop Shop Shop !

Well its that time of year again that we need to start getting the word out on our 5th annual show.   Its been growing every year !!   Looking to have a few live demo's this year added as well as some adult beverages.   We are bringing in attendees from farther away as we expand as well.    Admission is free to attendees along with food, drink and great raffle prizes.   We have vendor opportunities  available too.   If you have questions or comments feel free to hit me up 314-426-2162

  4. We had a place that had been doing our scrap plex, polycarb, HDPE and even PVC for years but I guees they went out of business.  We have a local place but they are very picky and only provide "gaylord" boxes which cant sit outside.  We now need every inch of floor space.   If anyone has someone they like please send them our way or get me the contact info

    Cheers !

C'Mon guys -- it probably wasn't a "how to" video as much as it was a "watch Kgirl trim cap" video!  Personally speaking it isn't a bad request!  I mean who would watch Eric trim cap?

    Hahaha Okay I stand corrected.

  6. Okay I may catch heat for this but it is what it is.    If nobody at the company is capable of doing this than they are not qualified to be building them.   It will take them to long to figure it out and they will be losing money.   moreover if they cant figure it out from the 100 vids on you tube you aren't going to do it either.

I'm sure it got real interesting over there since her spew came out over there.

That's one of the most important aspects about the Sign Syndicate, it acts as a alternate venue to help balance out the other side of our industry especially when it comes to our industry leadership and brochure articles.  Plus, search engines work REALLY well with content here.  This site has changed/corrected many things with our industry in both of those aspects, and we'll always continue to be a that thorn in the sides who try to shape us to what they think OUR industry should be about.

I'm not surprised about the lack in response, that's why I gave up Yeeeaars ago and would instead use the tools of this site, because a lot of people read, and the search engines are really GREAT!  :P

I was telling our 1 of our graphics guys about SS.  I said basically the no frills no BS version of the trade mags.  Except not having to favor advertisors

  8. Yeah 4th gen Ferguson resident.  3/4 of the city is still nice. The part saw on the news is a shithole.   2 years later a lot of businesses are boarded up , closed some just stay boarded up with open spray painted on the plywood.   Really a shame. I doubt the city will ever overcome the loss of residents and business.   worse thing is at least here I feel race relations have been set back 50-75 years.   Very very sad....

  9. Here is a copy of the email I just sent. For those in agreement send SOT a note.

    Robin,
This is a first for me as I never write in to a newspaper or magazine.   As a ex Ferguson resident and having my shop at ground zero and having living the so called "peaceful protest" .  Having customers call and ask if we are OK.  Having wives and parents making our employees stay home from work.  Having my 75 year old Mom come and stay with me because the riotous low lifes were burning, looting, assaulting citizens and shooting at police.  Only to do it again a year later on the anniversary of the justified shooting of a criminal.  Fast forward to the latest riot.  BLM had ZERO reason to right unless a known criminal being shot while attempting to shoot a black police officer is now reason to march, loot rob and worse.

Maybe it would be a good idea to concentrate on real signs and not drive of in the political ditch. I know you could care less about 1 reader but after hearing about this at the Tristate sign show you have certainly got quite a buzz going. None of it positive.  Sounded like a bunch of advertisers are not happy.  Hope you get around to writing about signs soon

  10. I have been (fortunately) extremely busy the last few years and have not had time to post much. I am trying to make a better effort going forward. Does the forum have any interest in seeing interesting sign stuff? I dont want to be spammy but we do at least 1 interesting project at least once every week or so.

  11. "Thank God for LED Lighting and all the suppliers who sell to everyone. No skill, No knowledge.

Just great bullshit to sell signs."

I knew a tube bender (now deceased) who used to complain about all the suppliers selling transformers, GTO, etc to folks who didn't know anything and were driving down the neon market plus giving it a bad name. When I was a teenager my father used to complain about people selling lit box signs for half of what they should have been. His friend, the sign writer, complained about people with "a pickup and brush" who were selling painted signs for pennies on the dollar, and whose work faded in a year or two.

There will always be folks who start off low on their pricing and can only go down from there. This looks to be one of the worst led signs I've seen but I don't expect it to get better. How it could be worse IDK, but someone will lower the bar even further.

BTW, that crushed conduit is a doozie. to reduce, re-use and recycle is one thing but...

This is the problem with the sign and many other industries. Trade magazines encouraging folks who should not be building stuff that with this kit or this cheapazz tool they can be a ________builder. I dont care what anyone says the sign biz started its decline with Gerber and the 4B It took all the skill to layout and paint signs and turned it into a cheap looking poor designed sign in one feel swoop. Then suppliers and trade mags continued to push stuff to the unskilled. I am sorry but banging on a keyboard is not a skill. Fortunately we have have continued to evolve with technology and with skill and craftsmen to be able to build signs that a lot of shops can not even design much less build. Yes we still build some rectangles and simple channel letters and thats ok to. I am so glad I went the wholesale route a long time ago because competing against hacks all day would be tiring. It seems that even with rectangle and red face channel letters the larger wholesale shops have hit a level that has some minimum standards with materials and UL for the electronic part.

  12. Was this sign installed? Did a customer buy it from so goof who could not install it and sent it to you to install. I am not sure if its better or worse to see what our wholesale competition is doing and thats where the race to the bottom is taking us? I guess this is why we have people call all the time and ask if they can "buy" a UL Label. Yes you can BTW they are 3 million a piece how many would you like?

  13. Only a few benders in our are doing it still. I actually think its great that only the skilled are still doing it. We have almost a job in house constantly thats neon. In my mind the sign industry did this to themselves. The same with hand lettering and cabinets that are not rectangles. We cant find and bring on skilled guys fast enough. To me the decline in neon came right before the need for GFCI transformers. IMHO they came into a need because people were doing shit/hack work and had ZERO business even touching neon. Before that skilled tradesmen built signs for decades with only minor problems. Then the same people who should have not been allowed to do neon work could not make it work and the newest savior to the sign biz came in and saved us from ourselves again and thus allowed even bigger hacks into the electric sign biz. Heck most keyboard operators dont even know what kerning is and are laying shit out in uppercase brush script.........

Keep up the work hacks and keep driving them to skilled shops
