  1. Hi Rich, Thanks for chiming in. This is my opinion, with fact mixed in. I'd rather not see the International Sign Association endorse UL and their Green Leaf program, or an International Green Building Code. I don't think it does anything. I think it's nothing more than UL profit farming with mythical standards for mythical claims, I mean, what a great way to make money. Green just means charge the end user more and get less in return. Today I just learned we're having to pay almost $30 a gallon for our navy ships to use "Green Fuel", how about that. Our War ships need to be "Green"...I guess "Green" Tomahawk missiles are next. We won't want to make a mess when we blow up our enemy that is trying to kill us. When you endorse, you agree. Not sure what's been going on since 2008 with ISA but it would have been nice to see the International Sign Association take a stand on how efficient neon truly is (and say it!), and how recyclable it is. Help in fighting the mis-characterization that has been brought against one of our most important traditional aspects of this trade in the form of announcements, retracting of article claims, seminars that has been going on for over a decade. Oddly a lack in educational programs to educate the sign industry in pro's and con's of all light sources, but this seems to have stepped on toes where there was special relationships. So again oddly enough there was a shortage of programs??? Even in the SOT the International Sign Association reports, I have never read anything, just how "Green" and "Great" LEDs are. How "Green" is "not a trend but a migration". I'm just not big on promoting something that cannot stand or sell based on it's own merit, instead it needs a crutch, a game time handicap in the guise of a label called "Green". Worse yet, this (Green) gets put through legislation, the tax payers pay for someone else's hobby, we're all forced to use another product instead because the government picks the winner and our liberty seizes to exist ("When government expands liberty contracts") It was disheartening in also seeing the International Sign Association's attempts to the NEC board to get outline neon lighting, a custom product, required to be a "recognized", listed/labeled product. Had it not been for the wisdom of the board to deny this attempt it would have further killed our heritage. Even more odd than that I still have yet to find out from ISA who started this proposal? No one seems to know, but someone has to have had to initiate it? http://www.thesignsy...tions-revisals/ This statement troubles me. Since 2008, why did it take The Neon Group having to do this on their own? As neon is our tradition, and to protect our heritage why did the International Sign Association not do this? In short I'm not sure it's good to or take credit for "Paving the way" for something that was never accomplished, but it almost seems like the International Sign Association has hindered that cause. I don't know how to seriously take that statement with any credibility for all I've named above. Instead the sad reality is, the International Sign Association got used and became an enabler by those who had their own business financial agenda of shooting down a product and replacing it with another through false marketing claims (possibly their own products?). The truth is I can't hold ISA as sole ownership of this, a lot of other associations and trade magazines got manipulated too. They all stood by and stood down and let the marketeering vermin who aren't even of/from this industry, grossingly, sickingly annihilate the neon aspect of this trade with false marketing campaigns, fuzzy math of fast ROI and Article write ups to nowhere. That's something I don't understand to this day. Neon hangs still by a shoe string thread. So...no, The Neon Group in my eyes did this completely by themselves and credit is shared with no one else but the group, a few manufacturers, people who care, and small neon shops who's very existence, means to make a living is/has been in jeopardy. They got no help. The positive side, I see Signs of The Times appears to be doing a 180, and good for them, that means good for us! I hope to see a few other ships turn and stir in that same direction as well. I think it's time to clean house, close the golf course, get a new panel, composed of new people. I think ISA needs a freshman class who have/hold "tradition" in their hearts and who have new ideas who can explain a statement with facts and figure and not just "Execute, but never explain" like the "Magic Mouth" association board members. I'm glad to suggest a handful of individuals that could do a much better job, individuals from this site that are engineers, project designers fabricators & installers, people who know the industry in which they work in, not a marketeer.

  2. Came across this today, The National Association of Realtors is not pleased with this new tax and hopes this information is forwarded to every voter prior to the election in November. It doesn’t matter which side of the political fence you sit on - it will affect ALL of us. When does your home become part of your health care? After 2012! Your vote counts big time in 2012, make sure you and all your friends and family know about this! HOME SALES TAX I thought you might find this interesting, -- maybe even SICKENING! The NationalAssociation of Realtors is all over this and working to get it repealed, --before it takes effect. But, I am very pleased we aren't the only ones who know about this ploy to steal billions from unsuspecting homeowners. How many realtors do you think will vote Democratic in 2012? Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8% sales tax on it? That's $3,800 on a $100,000 home, etc. When did this happen? It's in the health carebill, -- and it goes into effect in 2013. Why 2013? Could it be so that it doesn’t come to light until after the 2012 elections? So, this is ‘change you can believe in’? Under the new health care bill all real estate transactions will be subject to a 3.8% salestax. If you sell a $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax. This bill is set to screw the retiring generation, -- who often downsize their homes. Does this make your November, 2012 vote more important? Oh, you weren't aware that this was in the Obama Health Care bill? Guess what; you aren't alone! There are more than a few members of Congress that weren't aware of it either. You can check this out for yourself at: http://www.gop.gov/blog/10/04/08/obamacare-flatlines-obamacare-taxes-home VOTERS NEED TO KNOW.
