  1. Sign Suppliers selling to anyone for that extra dollar. I know it well. I can not blame anyone for trying to make more money or extra money on the side. We all have done it. When a supplier goes into business selling to the trades, that is his profession and that is what he is building his business on If the Supplier wants to sell to the public and or manufacture themselves and sell directly. Let them. You can do the same. Buy Direct. Buy someplace else. Knock them out of the picture. Make them hurt. I did it several times with a supplier. I stopped ordering from them.

  2. We have used Think Sign out of Louisville, KY and Vantage LED out of California for lower priced LED signs. A word of warning about using Vantage LED. While their prices are usually aggressive they are not loyal to their resellers in my opinion. Vantage offers a (7) year parts and labor warranty with their displays but it is set up with a third party insurance company. We sold a Vantage display to a customer of ours but the display had a service issue after we sold it. The third party insurance company called and asked what we would charge to go fix the unit. They also called my co

  3. I am very interested in this topic, I have been looking for a less expensive alternative also. I have been in business almost 30 years, still looking. I do ask myself why do I care that customers can't afford an EMC or even my sign, am I expected to lower my standards so the customer can afford a sign and in doing so create more work in my business doing the customer service required to do so? I use Watchfire as my main source for EMCs, My second choice is Daktronics. The price of these units are close until you get to the larger signs. These two companies are dependab

  5. I have to post this everyone once in a while, so I'm repeating again. For all those those who have access the National Sign & Service Company Review Forum, your participation, NOT your Distance Watching is much needed. Too many are just watching, scanning without engaging. The Review list is ONLY as good as it can be with more engagement. Good reviews of companies are just as good as the, not so good. I can't tell you how many times over the years it's helped get a lot of companies get paid, or saved companies from getting shaf

  6. Removing the sign or parts of the sign will get you immediate attention and paid. Remember to charge for Re Installing the sign ! Removal also. All paid in full by Cash or wired money. DO NOT take a Credit Card ! Always tell the " victim " that you are removing the sign because it is defective and needs to be repaired for safety reasons ___________________________________________________________ When someone doesn't pay you for your work, its the same as they robbed you at gun point. Show no mercy. They are not your friend anymore.

  7. Anyone going? I think I'm opting out this year. I love the Vegas Show but the idea of walking around masked up doesn't sound enjoyable, especially trying to have conversations with them on in the middle of a convention hall. The idea of walking around a resort with a mask on just doesn't bring excitement

  11. Been running a cheap 99.00 dollar Sams club inverter in my bucket truck for 15 years or more and it does everything I need. It is a 1500 watt. It runs grinders, band saws, heat gun, miter saw and everything I need. Just remember to turn it off at night. Also test fire signs after install if power is not available.

  12. If all you need is solid power, I prefer the Sensata Dimensions 3000 watt Pur Sine Inverter. Many used units out there from utility trucks. Have it professionally installed and all you have to do is maintain a marine deep cycle battery. We have 2 units and you can do everything you need to do. Except run a welder, but then you maybe able to that we just have never researched or tried to. https://www.magnum-dimensions.com/product-inverter/3000w-12vdc-pure-sine-inverter-charger-0

  13. We have 3 Honda Generators for over 6 years and they still work flawless. ( I don't think we ever did any tune ups or repairs on any of them ) When you need it, it starts and works. That's the extra value. Saving a few hundred might cost you thousands We also switched from " Miller Welder Generators to Lincoln Brands " So far, so good I'm interested in how the Generac and Yamaha works, anyone ?................

  16. Like everywhere else if you're very fortunate to be busy during this shut down, some business's are still willing to upgrade their branding in these slow depressing times We removed some outdated retail signage and upgraded them to their current look. I know, this is normally just an average channel letter sign....*Yawn*......but what's unique is the lighting system that powers it at night. The Illumination? BrightON II 24v constant current NOT constant voltage ....LEDs instead of the industry typical 12v LEDs for half the amperage across the wir

  20. Tim is a top notch guy. I have one of his 10' platforms, in fact the top photo is of my guys installing some channel letters. I've had it since 2013. Great for installation work, especially if you have the jib in the basket, only need one truck on the install.

  22. Electronic Transformer used inside the sign cabinet shorted and caught fire. Glass melts at 1,000 degrees and the neon glass in the sign is melted into a new shape. Think of the damages if this was inside the building, thru the wall, or just an interior neon sign on a wall. The electrical breaker never tripped, So we will blame it on the electrician

  25. I recently bought a graphtec plotter as well though I bought the CE 6000-120. My first plotter was a Gerber 4B, which was delivered by Fred Flintstone, which I eventually hooked up to a computer. It was so nice to be able to have more than six fonts! And retirement? What's that? I'm sixty and figure I have about another 35-40 years before I can afford to think about retirement.

  26. Hi this is TJ with SignComp Brian - Sorry to hear of the puckering with your flex face replacement. Our Customer Service is available from 8am to 5pm EST at 877-784-0405 and we are here to assist if you need it. We sell a few flex face systems globally and I can assure you the plastic clips are the most popular as they allow precision tensioning that a wedgeclamp can not and with regards to size they are used on more supergraphics than any other system. Full bleed will always be more a bit more difficult than a framed application as a frame or a cover can hi

  27. We have been a wholesaler for over 20 years now and we only sell signs wholesale to the trade period. For example we used to buy and resell gemini products. They started sellinning channel letters and we dropped them. Same when france tried to sell cabinets. I have only done machine work for the sneeze guard stuff for other sign shops and am pissed that some of our suppliers sell them. I would be just as pissed if we did printing. The plastic distributors are selling everything they have, no need to cut into my and or my customers work. I also know that they have increased pricing because o

  28. It's no shot at me, no worries. I'm semi -retired on sign production. I only have a handful of clients that refuse to go elsewhere. Also, it's only in my local market. Our Electric Sign Supply sales don't amount to much here locally because our market is all based on lowest price NOT quality....it's a shame really The upside to the few items I distribute is that I know what I'm talking about unlike the distributor/sign supply rep most talk too on product information or questions. I give customers and sign shops my first hand knowledge on use and testing a

  29. We like the plastic clips. I completely agree with the 1-2 click rule. Having that extra travel has saved us a few times. We get the face fairly tight/smooth then go around the whole thing depressing the clips another click or two as needed. The tensioning tool makes short work of that last little bit. Puckering might be a sign of having it too tight as well. Yes, I've done that. Either that or the sign needs additional supports. Its amazing how much tension a flex face puts on a cabinet, especially if it was not designed for a flex face originally.

  30. A good friend of mine almost went under because of Image Point but he was able to get about 75-80% of the monies owed to him. I think he had to go after I.P.'s customers in some cases. And as far as the vast majority of these national service companies are concerned, I echo Paul's sentiments. Do it on my terms or not at all.

  32. Big huge re-welcome back to MET Laboratories Want to get away from the out of control, over regulated, Tyrannical Underwriter Laboratories??? Then MET Laboratories is your less expensive alternative that can do the same for listing your electric signs according to OSHA. UL is no longer the only option. As many know who have been in our industry for some time knows UL has gotten waaaaaay to far out of control and lately has nothing better to do than make up new standards for component manufacturers to go by, useless change of standards that does nothing more than cost US/YOU money! 33. Hey Folks I'm considering making an LED sign for a family function that is a few words "Meet the [family name]" and was wondering if there were some basic resources on wiring. Also any ideas on what to mount something like this on? Most YouTube videos seem to gravitate towards large sheets of acrylic which would require I hire someone to cut.
