  1. Once again - I would recommend The Platinum Hotel - 2 blocks from the strip - closer than Hard Rock, centrally located, rooms (with full kitchen, living room, laundry, etc etc) for about $150 http://www.theplatinumhotel.com/ You may also want to look the rates for the M HOTEL - it is opening in March, it is on the south side of town - first hotel you will hit when you come into Las Vegas. It is brand new and is being built by the Marnell's - the company that designed the Bellagio...should have good rates http://www.themresort.com/ $180-$220
  2. Would recommend THE HOTEL bar - right off of Mandalay - you can walk there. Is much quieter than anyplace at Mandalay and is usually very empty. Just a suggestion.
  3. Word on the streets here in Las Vegas is that rates are going to continue to decline. The Adult Video show and the Consumer Electronics Show are at the same time this year - next week - and general consensus is that due to the economy turn out is going to be horrible. YYZ is right - South Pointe always has good room rates....but a bit down the road...and not really walkable to the main part of the strip. Orleans is West of the Strip. Another hotel that is short walking distance to the strip and huge rooms including full kitchen, laundry, etc and is very nice is THE PLATINUM. I would recommend this if you are coming for a few days and you want to reduce costs. As far as the Meet and Greet - I was planning on hosting a suite at one of the hotels near the show and have food/drinks, etc brought in - I would need a rough count though - so far I have a list of about 40 people that would be coming. Being a local we get much better rates on a lot of things. If anyone needs tips or advice on where to stay, what to do, what sucks, and what is ok to do...ask. The most popular and active hotel these days for the 30-40 year old crowd is the new Venetian Hotel called The Pallazzo. The two hotels with the best night life consistently is Hard Rock and The Palms (you can get unbelievable rooms at Palms Place right now if you book early) For those of you who have not been to Las Vegas in awhile...things have changed....we are the highest unemployment in the USA, we have the highest amount of foreclosures per capita, and our economy is imploding...so expect a different "lower quality place"....sorry...but its true.
  4. Screw that - I lost 70% in my California divorce after 10 years. She got most of what I worked my entire life for...for what...to be with the man she slept with when we were married!!! I am not going to put the dogs through that crap!!! Seriously - there is a company offering $20mil for someone who develops a way to neuter a dog without surgery...I would retire and never look back.
  5. Or a low cost contact-less neuter device for dogs - there is a $20 million reward for whoever develops this!!! I am serious.
  6. That is correct for laptop/cell phone charger as the power levels are very low. However for a 120Watt sign - that is not very feasible due to FCC rules and regs. And I think we would have a lot of very infertile men when we started wireless transmitting that much power....and just so you know that is one of the systems the military had developed for peaceful and quiet sterilization of populations. Anything above 2Watts or wireless power above 200Hz is considered "off-limits" to conventional commercial/consumer applications.
  7. Axiom is in the prototype stages and should complete development of our new power system for signs by ISA 2009. We have developed a system that requires no power or no connection to line voltage It does not use batteries It is a system you can mount on the top of a building that measures approximately 2 ft x 2ft x 4ft (so much bigger than a power supply) It is capable of powering either a sign of 120Watts for about 6 hours or a sign of 240Watts for about 4 hours It runs on air It can operate in any climate I know we are a little bit "out there" with the concept but we have developed this system for several applications including sign lighting. Obviously for sign industry it would have to be a very low cost LED system that was lighting the sign. Do you think there would be a lot of value in a product that did not require power and ran on air?
  8. Call Fernando Lynch and ask why there company is not on this board or not even involved in the Great White competition.
  9. You mean "Icon" not "Ikon" - right? If so Gary should be able to comment.
  10. Is anyone using this LED module? How come this isnt shown in the Great White test? 8000K - thats the purplish/bluish white tone - right??? Isnt that the one customers complain about?
  11. So no inputs on this??? Come on guys - Canadian companies can easily start taking over American company business just by placing currency games right. And you will start seeing a lot more companies from Dubai and Europe coming into the USA due to currency issues. Hasnt anyone seen prices of certain products rising like crazy - a lot of this is devaluation of the dollar and strengthening of Yen, Euro and Aussie and NZ dollar (until just recently).
  12. I did this once - similar situation - I told the company I was not available by the hour due to the fact when I was going to work for them I was going to be focused on their needs all day long. A set a daily consulting rate that was very high ($10K a day)...I thought it would get them to go away...nope...they hired me for 8 days. i suggested the same concept to an ex-employee of mine who works at a competitor to Axiom - they thought I was crazy - but they proposed the same thing to their old company and got the contract. As far as work for you now - AXIOM has a lot of sales reps talking to customers about our LED products that are making quite a bit of money in commissions. Easy job. PM me if you are interested.
  13. interested in seeing how many Europeans took advantage of weakening US $ in past year to purchase USA products at significant discount. Also interested to see if Canadian's also saw this benefit. Equally interested to see examples of how people hedged currencies to get discounts on products - is this an area anyone in the USA is very knowledgeable on?? I find Canadians, Europeans, Aussies, Kiwis, and Japan are very familiar with these issues. Also - does anybody truly understand the reprecussions of what happens if Barack Obama's right hand man Rahm Emanuel does get China to lock its currency fluctuations?
  14. That is great news for them. Didnt know Bill Hamm was from Zapi - I remember this company - they made some great electric scooters. This company never really took off and it should have - poor management if I remember correctly. It would be great if their new sign executive would jump on this message board and grace us with their presence. Sounds like they are really serious about the sign industry so we should see this - shouldnt we??? The news they didnt report was: 1. One of their head engineers James Steedley has left the company 2. Head customer service person, Jackie, has left the company Also heard that their production volumes are 1/10th of what they use to do and that most of their time is spent cuttin out CHASE letter backs and populating them with LEDs to replace the ones that failed. On another note I heard that SloanLED sales has also dropped.
  15. I am sure the box with all those LED systems may be running a little warm...I am sure it can help keep hell from freezing over...so I doubt ISA.
  16. International Energy Agency calls for more investment in new projects to avoid supply crunch http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/081112/eu_world_energy_outlook.html Currently, fossil fuels generate 85 percent of American energy, and about 70 percent of our electricity http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008/05...eport-wind.html Looks like ultra-energy efficient LED lighting will be with us for quite awhile.
  17. Is it possible to give us stats? How many from USA, Canada, etc ...or How many by State in the USA? Would be interested to know where the sign business is concentrated.
  18. AXIOM and several others are looking at doing something unsual and different at ISA 2009 in Las Vegas. Would really like to see your input.
  19. I just got off the phone with LEED guy from Pulte Homes who said that localized building for national sign campaigns would be a major component of companies assisting their end customers in getting LEED credits...so regional wholesale is the way to go.
  20. We are seeing the same thing YYZ - a lot of customers are moving to using white instead of blue...except those that need the blue light for halo or wall wash.
  21. As the economy shifts we are starting to see the increased use of subcontracted services that can localize manufacturing to the end location. Especially now when LEED certification is becoming more of an issue and people want to cut transportation cost of manufactured materials. Would it be possible to start a directory of wholesale sign companies on Sign Syndicate? Could be a good reference point for a lot of larger national sign companies.
  22. Due to new copyright laws AXIOM is looking for musicians that want to get their music heard by broader audiences. We are interested in using existing recorded music in a series of upcoming videos we will be doing. Let me know if you are interested or if you can put me in touch with anyone who may be interested. Any type of music will be reviewed.
  23. It will be interesting to hear from you in time how our new president impacts the world of education for children. That will be encouraging if what was stated will happen. This weekend we are going to recover from a week of partying - only 2 more days of partying - yes the weekend will be a great break!
  24. We are one of the main suppliers of Blue LED on Chevron conversion - we have a lot of experience in blue. We also do some major national automotive programs in blue.
  25. I think a tutorial on blue would be good/great actually. But on blue I would educate people on visual acuity issues associated with direct view at long distance versus peripheral view - there is a reason why emergency vehicles are red and blue lights. Did you know that the human eye is blind to blue light on direct view? Blue Light Special...no...you might have to pay someone to use their phrase...like did you know that Happy Birthday song is owned by someone?
