  1. I would try Chloride Systems/Genlyte - they are now a division of Philips. They are one of the emergency lighting specialists.
  2. in some places (India, Las Vegas, etc) extra wire is sometimes a problem - especially when theives are ripping off any wire they can find to recycle it for money for drugs! I heard the most ridiculuos story the other day - a guy ripped the LED modules out of a sign to take the wire to be recycled...I thought - why not resell the LED modules!!!
  3. It would be nice if Sloan would respond to this - but I doubt they ever would - we always recommend using our modules as already spaced. Two national sign companies stated that Sloan layouts usually specify 1.5X more modules than are actually needed. So how about I try this - instead of paying $3.25 for our module I think you should pay $4.87 or 1.5X the price...what do you think???? Haha

  7. How many of you are seeing price increases as a result of truly justified inflation vs companies that are using inflationary concerns as a means of justifying price increases? With inflation rates in China at around 10%, Vietnam at 29%, India around 11% and USA now at 5% - are there concerns out there and how are your end customers taking it? Also - what are your views on most manufacturing moving to China but inflation rising quickly there...is this a short term concern for anyone? Once again, what if a product was made in the USA, in Canada, or in your resident country for less than an imported product from China? Does that provide a nationalistic marketing value to you as a selling tool to your end customers? For example - we are building portions of and the final assembly of our CCFL downlights in California. The product will be about the same manufacturing price as in China (factoring transportation costs, time, etc). This was a huge selling point to our end customer - the #2 builder of homes in the USA. They saw it as a marketing selling point to end customers. Thoughts and opinions on inflation would be appreciated - it is creeping up on us.

Is that ok?

  10. I agree - and our modules are listed in the software. Dont you think sign companies should do their own layout since they are the ones selling the sign to the end customer?

  14. A lot of sign companies that convert from SloanLED to AXIOM LEDs always ask if we would do layouts like Sloan. On a given job our products are about $500-1000 less in cost for the same or higher performance. I have a basic problem with an LED company doing a sign layout - it basically is taking the "know how" away from the sign company and relying on an LED company who may have limited experience in building signs for end customers. I am curious to hear people's opinions on relying on a supplier to do a sign layout for you. Also if we are saving customers the amount we are would it be crazy for us to charge $100 to do a layout guide?

  16. you should be very proud of the community you have put together - it is both a resource, a feedback site, a "whats happening" site, and a way to just complain about things. There is a really good book I would recommend for you called BRILLIANT...forget what it talks about in LEDs, but focus on what it talks about when it talks about people that are fundamental to changing the mechanics of an industry. http://www.amazon.com/Brilliant-Nakamura-R...6956&sr=8-1 You are not a major sign magazine - you dont have a ton of advertising dollars...but you have stuck with it and made it one of the more visited sites in the industry.   18. A very prominent sign company executive says only GE makes a product with "DIP SHITS" on it for the sign industry. The comment on the shirt/make up - LMAO

GE always writes these things like they are the only ones in the world: SloanLED has systems that are 1.2 Watts per linear foot US LED has systems that are 1.1 Watts per linear foot Permlight has a system that is 0.8 Watts per linear foot And yes AXIOM has a product that is 0.6 Watts per linear foot in red - call us if you want to save 3/10th of a watt !!!! How much is this RED LED system per linear foot - anyone know? I know a few systems that sell in very high volume in RED that is $3.25 per linear foot.

  21. thanks for posting this article - it does show how it is going to get incredibly confusing as other cities adopt their own codes for this. It does seem odd in Las Vegas that LED billboard signs cannot use any animation but the signs on highway 15 for the hotels can...they are in Paradise. However there is an LED billboard sign in Paradise that cannot use simple animation. Too complicated - I think getting the strippers to stand on the corner holding a sign is more effective...and hell if the sign could have neon on it (something you can see during the day time) it would be even better.

  23. I totally agree with you - people forget their web presence. Doesnt make much sense in today's biz world. We update our site constantly. On the "other" company - we know quite a bit about their light engines....as I think you now know. This business has slowed down a lot. Interesting you noted the festoon product dropped off - I think this is the one product they still sell. Their head of sales is very focused on kitchen and bath designers who love this stuff. But then again due to economic conditions in the USA I think this biz is suffering. I also hear that Kichler will be introducing something like this at Home Depot and Lowes and the world will be a bit different. Your LEDStroke product looks good and I commend you on the design and implementation. You will do well with this product along with your cove product. For those that have not seen - YYZ cove product is simple - very consistent - very high brightness - and works to replace neon in cove lighting. Marko - can you comment on Canadian sign companies - you know this arena... And one other comment to those reading - YYZ and Axiom are competitors but this board accentuates how two (2) companies can work together and accentuate each others strengths. The biz world is changing - my suggestion is to embrace competition instead of ignoring and not communicating with them.

  25. Sign Syndicate was going to put on a training seminar in San Diego this summer but I got put off a bit. What if they offered a similar session during ISA 2009 in Las Vegas in Las Vegas.
