  1. You guys have got me thinking a bit about the people I have told about this site and some I have even brought them to the site most likely to show a funny clip or something. I also dont think that I have seen a one of them here afterwards. A few of the guys I know for a fact that they visit other sign related forums. I think the reason they go to the forums they do is because of their particular area of work that they like. For example one guy is into digital printing and we just got a new machine so he is always checking out that kind of stuff. Another guy is our awning fabricator so those are the forums he goes to. One guy doesnt do anything electrical and the other for the most part all he does is attach a premade fixture inside the awning and let the installer take care of the rest. Now those of us that are regulars and those that are new know that a person can ask 'any' question about 'anything', sign related or not, and get answers or opinions. An example would be the little tounge twister I posted the other day. What the hell did that have to do with anything sign related,,, absolutely nothing. But a couple folks posted behind it and had a little fun with it. That is a joy of this site. I am curious what the percentage is of how many folks, registered or unregistered, that visit once come back for another visit. Probably kind of hard to tell as I am sure many people have multiple computers that they use. But if that could be figured out I would imagine the percentage to be fairly high.
  2. If Peter was a peter puffer how many peters could Peter puff if the peters Peter was puffing were puffing peters?
  3. Fishing Nut, From what I hear I should not be surprised about Eurocom and Vermont. But it does shock me that they would offer such a negative light on mercury as that seems to be the base of their business. As far as manufacturers stepping up, no doubt that their seems to be only a select few to be stepping up, yourself being the ones out front in my opinion. Hats off to you, Ventex, Technolux. As for tests being done, I am in the same boat as I am sure you are. I have asked for samples and was told I would be getting them (from more than just Signeye's former employer). Nothing has come yet. I am ready, I have plenty of EGL Designer whites and Ventex transformers just waiting. Gary, Didnt mean to loose you with my comments and certainly didnt want to offend you or Freddy. I just hate that I have to be classified with the likes of the lazy generation x. For the most part I am only guilty by association with that. Back to the topic at hand.
  4. Gary and Freddy have shared many points that, in my opinion, are right on the head. At the same time I could offer my kindest viewing of my two middle fingers for some of what was written, only because I know of my journey to were I am in my life and career. However I cannot disagree with what has been said either, as I get to see on a daily basis the ignorance, lazyness, unwillingness, non common sense, etc, etc. The questioning of industry support was brought up, the lack of industry support in Vermont supprised me. Who knows how many shops are screwed because they dont have the means to go through all the red tape to be able to keep making their product. I am sure that some were members of sign organizations. They were let down and left to hang. Betcha those companies are happy to have spent the money to become members (active or not). And what about the suppliers and manufactures, where were they? If those organizations were involved, they might consider getting better debaters. But you know, the ignorant get to rule the world if the knowlegable dont stand. Maybe Vermont is just not a big enough market to worry about As for the site,,,you damn well that this is probably the best site running right now. Because of the way you run it, it is free flowing, infomative and sexy. I have found through my own personal experience that if you can come across as really wanting to learn folks will open up their arms to you and let you in. So I dont think there is a big problem of retaining trade secrets (I guess for me anyway). I have found the neon trade specifically to be one that you cannot sit on your ass and expect to 'get it'. You have to move and ask and try and screw up and on and on. Ok it is getting late and I am losing my train of thought. So in short, you have a good site that from what I see continues to grow. The chat room I did not think to take off well. Personally I rather to use the different sections to post. For the most part things are replied to fairly quick. Plus Gary had a valid point of time zones. As for the sign committees and organizations, I have never been one to count on anyone else to take care of me. I am accountable to myself alone. I think it comes to the younger and new people in the industry to get things done. You either do your part or you sit back and watch it go away.
  5. I'll bet back in the day she was hot!
  6. We have done a few installs for a couple stores locally. Unfortunately I do not recall who we did the work for. My guess would be General Signs, North American Signs, or Cummings Signs. These folks seem to be the nationals we are working for most here as of late. Of course may be a different company for your neck of the woods, I am in the midwest.
  7. You know what, I dont think I have tried them out yet. I still have some Masonlite electrodes to try out from when the rep came to visit last summer. Yeah if you want to send a few, I will check 'em out on a test project that it seems I have roped myself into. I was thinking the same thing West Coast. You dont have any use for electrodes.
  8. Only if I could figure out how to use my moderator powers to remove this post! Seriously, are these electrodes you're selling the same as the couple you gave me when I visited?
  9. You may not be that old but I know someone who is......
  10. I have been trying to keep up with all that is being posted about this and keep seeing the question of "where were the sign associations?" That is a fair question and I tend to agree with the response that they are probably following the money, LED money. However one thing that I have not read is, where were the Vermont Neon Sign Companies during all this? I havent seen a thing about them getting involved in the fight. Perhaps it is just something that I have missed. I think that it is a given that we are to have more regulations provided by those suit wearing panzies that have only gotten their hands dirty because they fell down from drinking to many fuzzy navels while laughing about how the working man doesnt know shit because their folks werent rich enough to provide a 'gimme' seat in Harvard (dont know if you could tell, but I am not a big fan of politicians and more so professional politicians). However I was listening to talk radio the other day and they had two scientists from different professions that both claimed that the global warming being caused by humans is bull. One even went so far as to claim that the bull was made up by certain types of business. Basically the just of it all is that global warming is a natural thing, as natural as a ball rolling down hill. Global warming really has nothing to do with humans. I believe this. If you look back at history the major changes that has happened to the earth are due to naturally caused global warming types of occurences. But we have politicians, tree huggers, business's and lobbyists that need to have something to do I guess. I will try to find an article or something talking about this that might make more sense than my rambling.
  11. That looks like one of Lanes neon installs. Just a joke!
  12. Hey there you had better watch it. The fella that runs this tavern doesnt care for folks that talk smack on neon. Jo Anne that is my kind of sign right there. Nice and simple looking yet classy and somewhat complicated. I am not a great fan of HDU, but as with so many other materials used within the sign trade it does have a handy nitch as with the key part of the sign.
  13. I dont recall the exact quote from President Bush's brother, then Florida Gov., but it was to the effect of that people in Florida have been forced to be bright enough to be set up for the hurricane that is eventually going to come. You live in that area so you should expect something to happen sooner or later. Louisiana was not prepared for what was going to come sooner or later. Maybe next time they will be better prepared but I doubt it as they are still getting assloads of aid for the aftermath of Katrina. Colorado shouldnt have to ask for aid as they are in an area were it is bound to snow there. Here in Illinois we had nearly thirty tornadoes touch down last season, we should be prepared for the eventual tornado that will get us. Califonia should be ready for earthquake disasters. And the list goes on and on. I am all for some assistance to make the recovery a little less stressful. However to cry foul because the people, the people city, the peoples state did not properly prepare for what was eventually coming and to blame someone else. For that I have very little sympathy.
  14. My mom always told my brother and I, if you cant share it you cant get it. Come on and share the wealth my brother.
  15. You must be doing something right (the nudy pics). Because there seems to be more and more folks joining for some reason (the nudy pics). Whether it be the interesting topics (the nudy pics), or the endless humor (the nudy pics), or just the general atmosphere (the nudy pics). You have managed to created a nice place for us to get away for a bit throughout the day to relax and learn a bit. And the nudy pics help too .
  16. I heard that it was a fake hanging and Sadam is now living in Paris with Jim Morrison and Elvis.
  17. I dont know about the safe part, but it sure looks to be prosperous.
  18. Now I am not exactly up to par on my computer lingo or what is hip in the world today, but I would guess that this could considered as . Rgiht?
  19. As the title says, Merry Christmas Everyone. Here I was actually hoping I could get sick so I didnt have to go to my inlaws yesterday, my wife and two kids are the ones that are now sick for x-mas day. Which screws up the day with my side of the family. Its a conspiracy I tell you.
  20. We have a nice sized yellow page add (1/4 page) allthough I dont know the cost. We have three people that generally answer the phones, myself included, that take several calls of folks that let their fingers do the walking. I would think even the box advertisement to be a good investment. I guess it could depend on the competition in your area as to what you decide.
