  1. So what does the upgrade do? Does it have a built in ilevel scensor that will shock the hell out of him whenever he attempts to access the site.
  2. I am not exaclty a gun guy but I dont think the govenment needs to go changing the constitution or civil rights or bill of rights or anything like that. My first impression of the thought is to try to make it a bit easier to get folks out. After all people can get rather upset when telling them to leave their own home. :bitchin: But then again certain areas people need to leave as areas are just deadly with the toxins in the water and the 'wake' by shootings that have been happening. But I still havent found anything about it. Who knows. B.O.P. I know you are in one of the Carolina's. Hope all is going ok for you with the hurricane going thru.
  3. A fella here is telling me that the federal government is taking everyones guns from louisiana with the exception of the military, police, private security and others of the nature. He says it is all over the news. I havent seen or heard anything. He actually e-mailed an article about it from a person that is pissed about it. Refering to the 2nd amendment and all. Seems to me this is probably temporary and more for protection than anything. Does anyone know about this?
  4. Dictatorship is pretty close. We like to put socialist republic in front of the name of the town. The easier town is growing rapidly while the difficult town is sufferingin my opinion. I think it is good that they are strict with things but some things dont maked sense and maked it not only difficult to get inspections passed as well as folks not wanting to have their business there. All the big nation wide stores go to the easier town. I take that back they are letting walmart build a store. Just think, what I have described I could keep going. They are definitely something else.
  5. We are based in the twin city setting at the home of the Fighting Illini. One is the older of the two and often very difficult to work with and in. I dont consider them to be business friendly as they use stricted guidelines that need to be followed before they will allow a business in. The other town is very easy to get along with. An example of older cities sign issues would be a freestanding sign face change that I sold two years ago. I was doing nothing to the sign other than changing the name on the faces. No structure change at all. I knew that I would need a permit because I was changing the name(if the name would stay the same only to change the layout, no permit needed). But I decide, because the town is somewhat difficult to deal with, to call and ask if there will be any thing else I need to know about. Turns out the codes have changed since the sign was originally installed. This means, even though all I want to do is change the name on the face, I will have to move the entire sign fifteen feet off the property line. The sign was basically set right next to the property line originally. This sign was dead set(pole directly in the ground) with plenty of concrete. The other would require this move if the sign were to change structurally. Another example would be a local mall in the older town that has a electronic message center that is able to change messages almost at will. For what ever reason no other business can have an electronic message center that changes as ofter as quickly. My boss has argued about this with the city several times as other businesses wanting the same thing. The city offers the reason that the mall advertises activities for the city. So the wanting business offers the same for the city but the city still denies. The other town is consistent to say no to everyone. Something else that strikes odd to me is that the older town needs to know how much we charge the customer for the sign project. The other could care less.
  6. Well obviously I have no idea what you two mean as I dont know the particulars of your situations. But with your posts I realize I may be asking to much within a public forum. I do appologize for basically crying about nobody wanting to share their stories as to sensative issues that dont belong here. I dont know why this is such a big deal to me right now. I guess like my wife says once I get something in my head, its literally stuck in my head until I have exhausted it or myself. Kinda like pestering folks about neon processing technical info. :D
  7. Joemomma I am truly sorry to know that this is happening to you. I am a faily innocent person but I fully know that life is not made from a bed of roses. I can be the sort of person that is doing absolutely nothing but minding my own business and get into trouble(But thats another story for another time). The business decision has been made from several years ago. I guess I needed to get things right in my head before I actually made good progress towards that goal. At the very least I will be on my own by the age of 35 which is three years away. I am in the process of purchasing equipment to help lessen the start up cost that will strain my finances. I have to admit my wife is my biggest obsticle at this point. She is ok with the idea but she feels I have it to good with my current employer of ten years to do it. Which I do. The job, boss and people are great. I really have no need to go away from it. But since I was seventeen I knew exactly what my proffesion would be and that I would end my career with my own business. I have only a few people to talk with that have this type of experience. Since I have been involved with these forums I have come to meet more folks with the experiences that I have had and plan to have. This is why I have asked for your stories. To sort of broaden my knowlege base of the task at hand. So good or bad I want to hear or read the stories. I am sure I am not the only one.
  8. Ahh, the good ole days!  :Bj: :bukakke:
  9. We have a town near by that makes us wait quite a while and charges alot before issuing permits. They even want to know how much we are charging for the sign in the application. The next town over, they could almost care less. Your within the guidelines, ok good enough. $5 or $10 charge and your out the door with the permit.
  10. Like I said earlier, I appreciate the thoughts, time and stories West Coast. I know my day will soon come. And I have no doubt that I will do fine. But I do have the nay sayers and my own personal issues at times. So I asked how others kept themselves on track to their dreams and goals. Plus I enjoy hearing or reading those types of stories. But its odd to me that often people dont care to share their story. I dont understand why. I would think it something to be proud of. Oh well I guess.
  11. Wow! I figure either it was a stupid thought to ask for stories or it was a stupid thought to ask for stories. Such is life. If you cant do it on your own, dont plan to get it done. Thanks for the story Sign Guy. I appreciate your time and thoughts.
  12. For several years now I have had the plan to start my own business. I have experience with many areas of the business from sales, production to installation. I have been reading about the the other things that an owner has to deal with such as government requirements, legal and such(unfortunately I tend to retain info much better with hands on experience). I feel basically I have much of what is needed to endure such a venture of sole proprietorship. I have several pieces of equipment already. I have the basic business plan figured out for myself. I think most of what would be needed is in place or is figured out how to get it in place. My question to you folks is, how did you decide it was time to make the move? How did you decide to let yourself have the balls to put yourself out there? When and how did you kick all the negative thoughts out of your head?
  13. You know its sad but true. If a clerk cant scan it or swipe the card you will most likely have to come back later. A few weeks ago I wanted to pay for an item with my bank card. The girl swiped and swiped. After a few dozen swipes I asked if she would like me to manually enter the card #'s in for her. She thought I was being funny but I was dead serious. She finally figured it out and got her manager to finish the deal.
  14. Just short of razzing you about being to old to work a computer and telling you to let you great, grreat, grrreat grandkid figure it out for you. Which I would never do. My guess would be that you somehow made corel the default application for your pictures. Just a guess though. I have come to the habit of creating a folder with several sub-folders. The main folder as my name(I also have one for the wife). These folders have the little squiggly line thing(~) in front of the name to make first in line under the c-drive folder. Within this folder I have a sub-folder for my drawings, a sub-folder for pictures, etc. This way whenever I load something or save something I can easily find where I want it to be and it is in turn easier to find. For me that is.
  15. Yesterday on the tv new orleans city officials were commenting on the luting going on(didnt notice who it was). They said it over the tv that there is a difference between thievery and survival. Something like this can make a sensible person do something totally out of character. To some it is the opportunity they have been waiting for. To have the law occupied with so many other things and to have to worry about scum bags taking advantage of the situation. They showed footage of a cop leveling a shotgun on two people ripping a store off. Maybe the cop should have lived out his fantasy to blow somebody away point blank. I mean after all, everbody else was breaking the law.
  16. It was something that I realized but never really put thought to. But it was mentioned several times after 9/11. That the USofA comes to aid for most every devestating event that may happen throughtout the world. Whether the nation is a friend or foe. At the same time most every nation, friend or foe, leaves us to fend for ourselves. The world simply refuses to believe that the mighty USofA wants everyone to live life free and happy. The one sure fire way to live free and happy is to be a family and to help others as they need. Bless all that give donations for aid, the red cross, coast guard, neighbors, friends, etc.
  17. I just got done looking at a series of pics from mississippi and louisiana. Devestation! Plus the thought that the toll is worse than originally thought. I have a couple friends that got out a few days before sh*t hit the fan. I can only imagine about those still their or those with family and friends still their.
  18. McMaster Carr has a blade that we use to cut plastics, pvc and any other soft material that a regular blade might chip. Its a carbide-grit edge saw blade on page 2219 of catalog 111. The blade will last for years. I started here in '95 and just a few monthes ago bought a new blade(probably could have used one earlier but the thing still kept cutting) due to warping. We use the blade primarily for the panel saw but everynow and then use it in a circular saw.
  19. Man I figured I would have some good comments about this by now. I guess folks either didnt get it, didnt think it was funny or just plain didnt care. Oh well worth a shot.
  20. Mike, judging from your picture I would have to say you rode the short yellow bus and wrote with pencil. :freak: Now for all you bible thumpin, tree huggin, animal lovin, vegitarian folks out there. Go beat a ten year old and lighten up. I do it all the time and I feel much better about myself. That is until one of them got the better of me. It has been a bad day.
  21. Wow, be a dick get treated like a dick. So does this mean ilevel cant view the site or cant log on and participate?
  22. Joemomma thats a mighty fine piece of machinery you have there. You had better keep the doors locked and your eyes on it cause I just looked and seen it on the worlds most stolen list. I cant believe you have one though. They say only P-Diddy and Oprah have them in the USA.
  23. Good stuff West Coast Signguy. Overall I think going overseas was a good idea for everyone involved. Granted, like many other things in life, just how good will not be seen right away. I wonder what people would think of Bush if he did the weapons of mass distruction. Like I wrote before, I think he got screwed by taking the politically correct way. If a drug dealer knows the cops are coming to raid their house they will be hiding their stash.
  24. Maybe your right ilevel. Maybe Bush should step down and let some thin skinned panzy take over. God forbid the USA get attacked by terrorists and our president go after them. The man said it right off that the terrorists and anyone known to help them out to attack us had better watch out cause I'm coming for you. Hell he even tried to go about it the politically correct way by going to the united nations. I have no doubt that things would be more in Bush's favor had he moved sooner. As it was everybody got the time to get ready for us. As for the zoning it can be crap at times. One of the towns we work in has a mall that has a message center that can display graphics and change messages at will. But anyone else that wants a message center can only let it change once every minute. And absolutely no flashing.
  25. Its really sad that it takes things like this for people to come together. The second I heard about London I knew peoples attitudes would change. I have heard so many people talking today that thought what the USA is doing is wrong in Afganistan and Iraq. Are now saying that we need to get rid of these terrorists.
