If anyone is interested in the San Diego Area I have a small sign business that I have had since 1993. I was once very aggressive and motivated with a couple of employees. Since then I have down sized to my garage so that I can be closer to home with my kids. I've kept it pretty small and was very selective on what jobs I would take. Now that my youngest is getting to the age where he will be in Pre-School again I'm getting that old motivation again where I don't feel so restricted. I just bought a 4'x8' CNC Router table & huge Panel Saw. I have a 24" ColorCam that I bought and never used (It's collecting dust) mostly because at the time I bought it I was concentrating on Electric Signs, 40' Boom Truck which is also collecting dust and rust. I carry a C45 Electric Sign License, The youngest in the state of California to get one. I mostly did Electric Signs and Neon but since obtaining a CNC I've been more motivated towards non-illuminated signs as the profits are more lean and less hassle. I have the highest skilled sheet metal guy in San Diego fabricating my metal & one of the greatest glass blowers with a state of the art neon plant. With that I have had the greatest confidence in what ever I was selling knowing it's quality is unbeaten. My work to this day has mostly been all repeat service and word of mouth. I hardly ever, ever, ever repair my own electric signs. My signs don't go out. I like to do it right & right the first time, using he highest quality components. So i'm looking for someone who is highly motivated and very well rounded in the business & fabrication aspect of the Sign Trade. Honest and with integrity. One who is probably tired of working for someone else and seeing all those signed contracts and never getting a part of it. Just wanted to wish all the visitors and new members a very Merry Christmas and safe holliday, and a thank you to all those men and women serving our great country overseas. I sense a very big year to come for everyone, in the markets and financial growth. 2005 will be one of the best years we will have to have come our way. I have the 24" Panther as well, But I'm not getting to much slack between the rollers. That will happen sometimes if I use real thin paper for patterns . But other than that I have no real problem with it. I just line up the vinyl with the alignment path and go to work. I went from a camm1 Roland to this. Maybe it needs some grease :D

Hmmm, I've always wondered that myself. I never charge for estimates, but I try to get away from giving them a full blown proposal until I let them know a basic cost estimate. That way if it doesn't scare them away I know I have a good chance with them. I think it depends who it is too. If it's a big corporation I have no problem giving them a nice presentation. I did a big bid for a 13 Location Bank Branch, did not get the job but they volunteerly sent me a check for 1k for the time and driving :D

What kind of applicatios will you be doing? Indoor, outdoor, large format or small stickers? I have a ColorCam PC-60 that I bought for 8K and have never used it, we have never run it except for a stock file demo it came with. I do electric Signs and have never found a use for it. But I do make my own beer :beer: and i plan to make my own bottle labels with it :wiggle:

The last letter project I did was 1/2" Black PVC with High Performance colored vinyl, when I get a chance I'll take a pic and post . I like using black so I can get away from painting

:lolhitting: Whoops brain fart. I'm thinking of the job I just did lastweek, that feed speed was using 1/2 PVC and not acrylic. I have a HF 3hp colombo spindle, so sometimes I can come roaring through material

My experience with applying vinyl on substrates such as polycarb or acrylic is that I usually use soapy water to apply, then I usually let it cure or set on the acrylic for 24 at least sometimes over 2-3 days before cutting. After that period is comes out really nice. Usually anytime before 24 hours and the vinyl has a tendency to come up or off. My feed rate is the same as plastic, anythign slower and it get a lot of frays around the vinyl surface. I've been using a multipurpose bit at 13,000 RPM/s wih 3 inche/sec. :beer:
