  1. It's pretty slow over there Marek, I didn't get accepted till weeks after I finally got my admit in. SG, yes very lame. But my wife looked at it too for shits and giggles because sometimes I have to question myself if I may have originally asked the question wrong, and she said maybe a little but not in the sense to get the feedback I did. I mean I was gettign positive feedback from a few then all of a sudden there was miscommunication with one female sign maker in a reference I made about a quote from a movie with nothing to do with her husband who just posted his thoughts in regard to my post. Then it snowballed form there, some other sign chick said I was arrogant, lol... in the way I was coming into the forum being new and all with my humor not being funny to her and blah blah blah, you've read it you get the picture. So I didn't like the way she was trying to portay my persona to everyone else twisting what I was posting (quoting part of my post to make it seem in a fashion other than what I was laying down). Damn my head hurts right now, damn 1shot paint..... Oh yeah then her lil buddies come in and just blow it all out of proportion. I even got a PM or it was forwarded to me about the second sign chick going around contacting peeps about my post and one even had her calling me a newbie schmuck or something, they have a very wierd notiifcation in that forum, it just flashes in front of my screen for a brief second the goes away. Maybe it's because I'm on a mac or not a paid member. So I dunno, I just think it's funny & I actually just wanted it to go on, I found it entertaining. I mean to argue back with facts and substance and all they could do was tell me I'm being rude, crude, a dik, asshole, lizzard under the rock, disrespectful...etc...etc. & I never once called anyone a direct name, I just argued my case. You lose a debate or arguement once you start yelling or calling names because you have nothing to support or reinforce your case, so peeps panic and start flamming. I've alredy had a run in with one of them off the bat in one of my first posts in the beginning, anyway so that was amusing. I seemed to me that Steve the admin was either pist with me too or pist at the fact that he may have gotten called into it, he just seemed to want to resolve it and move on...i'm sure it wasted his time. With all those members and it seems to be just him as admin, lot's of people to keep in check. But man some of those members in other threads are just out right assholes. I would have banned some of them for a few weeks. :gay:

I gotta go get in the shower, finish my thought later....maybe :nutkick:

  2. Actually that Pic did not do any justice, there were probably about 25 people or so who attended. It went on from 8:30 am till 5:30Pm. Ilan had Boxes of donuts and Lots of coffee waiting for everyone when we first got there. My wife had just missed Paris Hilton getting her nails done by 5 minutes. As for an agenda it was pretty much an exchange of ideas for the CNC Router table. Hold down methods, substrates choices, software and business aspects. I was just REAL lucky I didn't have to travel very far for this one. I planned on going cross country to the huge annual company camp on the east coast.

Here's a pic of the wife with her nails done laughing at me in one of the bars we were at.

You can even see the back of her head form the first pic with her head hair pulled back. She told me never to invite her again to one of these, she was bored off her ass. But she sat through it. Next time I'll send her shopping or something... as long as she doesn't spend :D MY Money :P

My wife and I made our way our to Venice from San Diego on Friday afternoon a day before the camp in Venice Beach.  Due to spring break all we could get was Econolodge two and a half miles away.  My wife loves to go shopping on the boardwalk but since traffic was terrible we did not arrive in Venice until almost 5:30pm, 4 hours in traffic.  We must have napped for 20 minutes and quickly rose for some beach store activity, in other words she wanted to get her nails done.  She went in to get her thing done and I waited across the street at Finn's Irish Pub.  A new pub only been around since the 02', the menu tells the story of a local girl who ships her father's remaining decor and antiquities from his pub in Ireland to start  anew in Venice Ca.  Great food and drinks, my wife joined me an hour and a half later for a few more where we then went off to a hole in the wall bar on Washington Blvd next to the beach.  A late dinner in a Mexican Food restaurant, then back off to the hotel for a early rise the next morning.

The camp was held at Ilan's Design Studio where Ilan manufactures furniture among other things.  Bill Palumbo was the speaker for shopbot, a very entertaining speaker.  Ilan had the very nice 5'x10 or 12' shopbot bulked up on double C Channel railing supports, it looked solid and with dual spindle and router head.  A very broad spectrum of shopbotters attended, everyone from sign, furniture, cabinet makers to arts and crafts makers along with surfboard & play backdrop makers.  I still don't understand how he holds that surfboard down.

Everything said and done I learned a lot, it made me feel real small to the use's I've been using it for.  But, that's a positive way to look at it, the possibilities are endless where only imagination can know no bounds.  What caught my eye most of all was the 3D production that can be made.

Thank you Ilan for holding the camp at your amazing shop and Bill for speaking to us, it was fascinating and enlightening.

  5. Cool pics lance, thanks for sharing. I'm usually a night owl myself :D But i'm up usually playing online games, then I wake up the next mornign tired like a dork  You create a album in the gallery section and throw in some more pics of your family.

  6. Looks like so much fun wish I lived closer :D But I have enough of the things that go thump in he night over here, I don't need to bring anymore little friends back over here  I deal with enough in the night. Ever any meets on the west coast?

  7. One of my fears is that if I go for the basement, I'll miss out on more sales. It would be nice if other businesses can see my store.

Well if your just starting off no matter what, your going to have to start out doing outside sales. Visiting newly coming business where ever you see contruction, passing your cards to business's who may look like they have a need. Reading newspapers on local events and newly signed leases. Dropping by property managements, construction offices. Some people even market themselves through data bases that get new city business licenses registeries and send them post cards for advertisements. The list goes on.

Maybe that might help a little

  8. Should be good to go, as long as you can see that each part of the eps file is independent, as in each vector has it's paths. I would do a paper pattern first to make sure if your limited on the vinyl you have for it just to make sure it would be properly cut on vinyl

  9. Saw the movie lastnight, great flick! The first previews that originally aired made it look cheasy, but the previews a week before showed a different side of it. Lastnight on a rainy night made the perfect atmosphere to go out and see it. Not giving anything away but it's worth seeing, has a serious side plus some good dry humor. Not a wait for video movie

"The Hitch" is next on our list.

  10. I'm going to be moving a client and both channel letters down the street. I'm going to be re-doing the vinyl bands that they have for their windows.

They want me to also reproduce a large 4 color advertisement on their window. I have a PC-60 but it's probably going to be around a 4' to 3' Width. Proabably a little to large and it's going to be on a window. The lastime I did one was for a Illuminated Logo Box and I think it was a Gerber Edge...maybe I just know that the quality has to be for exterior and hold up. This window will face the sun from sunrise to sunset.

Anyone do Wholesale work for the trade?

I need to get some basic estimates, i.e. by the sq' footage

Luke it is a pretty fuuny how a lot of us ended up doing signs, I don't ever remeber being in High School and thinking to myself, "One Day I wanna do signs". A lot of my personal fellow trademen have real odd backgrounds. My old boss from long ago had a PHD in metaphysics, and my glassblower has a PHD also in some sort of scientific glass physics. I mean this guy builds his own ovens, refrigeration and equipment. I don't even know how he builds what he builds but he's a tube bender, and a very damn good one. The sign industry is a very strange one & I think a lot fall into it by accident, IMO.

Welcome to the Board Luke!

P.S. in RE: to videos, it looks like your in the UK. I was gonna suggest you go to the Las Vegas Trade show I know their going to have some hands on seminars for airbrushing & vinyl. You may want to try

  13. On a panel saw the weight and natural curvature of the Lexan makes it easier for the blade to pull the sub as its cutting causing it to bounce and shatter. If you could adjust the blade on the panel saw to only extend beyond the thickness of the sub it would be great cuts, I think.  I am unable to do that so if my cuts are vertical I just put a scrap piece of pvc or mdo IN FRONT of the Lexan and that stops the Lexan from being pulled and shattered.

Hope this helps and it makes sense with my rambling

That's exactly what happens too. I think I saw in the site where my panel saw comes from they make a fence that pushes the stock up against the rails firmly, maybe I need to try that. There's a couple of plast suppliers here that use panel saws too, i'll need to pay more attention to how theirs is set up.

    thx for your input :smile011:

  14. Love this drill. I finally broke down and got one mainly for hanging simple sings and banners. I usually have the corded variations of this hammer drill but after using my other 12volt cordless (non-hammer) and taking forever to drill into a stucco wall, enough was enough. I don't wanna have to have two drills, look for power e.t.c. and wow does the battery last a lontime.

I also got the new version Dewalt radio for christmas, my old one finally took it's licks. It has a AUX slot like the old one but has better sound thanks to Fosgate who makes the audio components. The AUX makes it easier to plug into my ipod for music on the jobsite. Even better now ipod has an adapter so you can broadcast out your music in FM and tune into with any radio to listen to it. So no more stero cord, works in the car too.
