  1. I have found many useful answers, & help for different sign projects here on this site.

    Whereas, I may not post everyday, I do post when I see something that peaks my interest.

    I find this site most informative & worthwhile. I wish it was around 14 years ago when

    I was first starting out in this business. I thank my lucky stars each time I log on to

    the site & post a question, which is then answered by many different sign people.

    The person from N Glantz who made that comment, should be given the cold shoulder for

    insulting the people who provide him w/ a paycheck - namely US!.

    Very Respectfully,

  3. Philip;

    Thanks for the info, I contacted Interstate Signs, & we dealt w/ Blake Yoder, a pretty stand up guy in my opinion - Interstate, has a pretty sweet deal, where if they fab your DOT signs, & you tell them what order you will be installing the signs, they have a really neat trailer that has your signs already loaded & in the order you specify, they bring you the trailer, you hook the trailer up to your truck & go to the first stop & remove old sig, pull new sign off of trailer & install, then proceede to next stop. No crating to remove & dispose of. You are allowed two weeks use of trailer for no charge, after that, they charge a fee. Like I said, the trailer pretty ingenious, reminds me of when we use to load stuff on board ships - stuff you need first is loaded last - stuff w/ least importance loaded first.

    I had one sign company from the list here submit a bid, plus Interstate, I sent a request to Zumar, (quite a few requests) but recieved nothing back from them, & we had a few locals

    submit bids also. I think we are done looking for quotes, as I found out we have submitted our bid, but I do not know if the Salesman is still looking for any other quotes. When I see the Salesman in charge of this project today, I will ask him, & post it to the board.

    I greatly thank everyone for there support & help. Hopefully we will be awarded this project from the City of Austin, but who knows, as there was a tremendous amount of paperwork & other hoops that we had to jump thru & hurdle over. Only the good Lord knows, if we will be awarded the project.

    Thanks Everyone.

  4. Hello all;

    Looking for someone who can fabricate & ship overhead freeway - DOT signage.

    This is the kind you see on the freeway & interstates & you take your vacations & company trips.

    These signs use 3M engineer grade diamond reflective vinyl & EC film overlays. There are anywhere from 30 to 60 of these to fabricate & ship.

    Please e-mail me directly at gary@lewissign.com

  5. To All;

    I have been in this business for over 12 years, I started out laying vinyl

    @ a FastSigns in Glendale, Az & worked my way up thru the ranks to a designer & now a Dept. Head/Lead Designer w/ Lewis Sign here in Buda, Tx.

    Over the years I have experianced many different attitudes at the various sign shops that I have worked for. Some shops (alas very few of them) actually care about there people, but most of them do not. The majority of the ones I have worked for over the years have the policy of use them up, wear them out & toss them aside & hire some fresh ones. Some shops, hire

    really good people, promise them the moon, then when a project ends they let them go (without telling the employee that they were only hired for their expertise on this project & that since the project is over the company has no need of their services any more.)

    The company I am with now, has the best attitude & appreciation for their employees. I see it everyday, evryone is quite happy & excited about coming to work, Everyone looks out for everyone, & we have no "prima donnas" here. Everyone from the owner down to the newest guy will pitch in & help anyway they can to get a project done. I have seen the owner doing everything from laying vinyl, to welding up framework on a large sign. To me, that speaks volumes about the owner & the company, as the owner does not think he is to good to help out the guys in the shop.

    Their are not to many owners like that anymore, & if you can find a company to work for who's owner is like that, then you are lucky, & should plan on staying with that company till retirement.

    Very Respectfully,

    J. Gary Bodnar
