  1. We had a mild slow spurt to get some fishing in but after that week or 2 its been buried up here...and getting worse. We bid out some "custom" signs when it was slow thinking the extra time needed for them would keep everyone busy. Thats biting me in the arse daily when I walk in at 6am and leave at 7pm. Hopefully I'll be around a bit more now
  2. I can feel that pain Derf...well in another month anyway...feel like Im 90 today though..ugh
  3. I gave up on that site...mostly bogus adds and just plain ole' bytchin. Fun to read sometimes but nothing worht any value as far as signs go....I wonder since were a Non Union shop if were all PUKES? That guys a dink
  4. I too went with SignCraft. They have had a few really good how 2's and the adverts are really starting to bug me in SoT
  5. I think I can relate to the tire changing scene the most...my dad had a wood working shop and I was always getting thrown out of it for just that type of thing..."ohhhh fuuuuuudge..."
  6. "...Red Rider BB gun with a compass in the stock.." I love that movie
  7. We just got our printer and bought the extended warranty for the tune of 3500 just to be informed that there isnt a service tech within 2000 miles. I guess theyre talking about sending me to SanDiego to become one...sheesh I like working on my own equipment but that seems a bit over the top...oh well least its warm there. I hated my last printer ...was always going down but the CS was great...not sure which is worse...a machine that breaks all the time but good customer service...or a machine that rarely goes down but customer service that treats you like your after their trade secrets for wanting to get your machine back running
  8. There's also a good book on this exact subject its called For the Boys...my roommate is a huge Gil Elvgren fan. If theres one in particular let me know and I might be able to scan and save it for you
  9. can be one of a few things...your pci setup is incorrect in your bios(could be EPP rather then ECP as it needs to be for the edge) or a lot of times with pci parrallel ports the jumper settings are incorrect. I had tried to set one up a few years ago for a legacy scanner we had. The card was a generic CompUSA card. I finally ended up shelling the money out to get a nice card with at least some sort of guidance. As WCSG stated start with Gerber and go from there. Or maybe your dealer. Best of luck to you...ahhh one last thing are you trying to use GA as well?
  10. So Im sitting here waiting for bits and aluminum to arrive(which I was serious about the volcano which has pretty much shut down air frieght do to ash in the air :nonono2: ) and Im going through the various sign forums and boards and Ive noticed a trend that I see every day in my shop as well as almost every board Ive visited. Animosity. I'll be the first to admit that I became a designer because I was the only one in the shop I used to work at that could run the software. I was a vinyl app substrate shop lacky at the time, the head designer was leaving so I got my shot and never looked back. So the fact I can use a mouse better then some use a brush, I can macro VBA's for corel....so how does this make me any less of a craftsman or artist then someone who huffs one shot all day? I take pride in what I do. I work everyday to better my skills. Ive been doing architechual based design since I was 13 for my grandfathers exhibit company. Ive learned most of the skills it takes to fabricate a sign(still working on horizontal welding ) So why is it Im a lsser person in a trade I love because I use a Digital printer and router instead of a brush and jigsaw? How does that make anyone who uses thes methods less of a sign craftsman? Sorry to rant but its just pissing me off that because the tools I use are different that Im lesser in my field of peers.
  11. We used Neon wizard at the last shop I was at...was pretty much used for footages, which I use sadly enough Graphix Adv. for now. but it never really seemed to lay out good neon. Id spend more time redrawing sections just to have the tube benders say bah I'll fix it myself. I was just curious if anyone that has bent glass found it useful. These days I just use corel and its wonderful convert outline to shape and BAM consistant centered neon they can apply their double backs or penetrations as they seem fit. Well now the Govnah wants to rout all mounting holes and penetrations before hand which is cool but getting a bit of resistance from the benders here so the Govnah was thinking Neon wizard would help sooth them into this process. Any thoguht from those who have been there would be appreciated.
  12. lol most fab guys enjoy it....till they find out its true:) I hate standing in the box...I'll stand next to it or on it but not in it...till its getting covered with dirt. Just to be curious what is everyone designing in and is anyone open to design tips tricks swap? I have few and always looking for more. Im using corel13 photoprint 4 and enroute are my work programs and then anything I can get my grubby lil hands on for my at home "side" designing. Guess maybe I should throw this into a different thread for that Later Days Villians Oh yeah do any of you neon guys actually like Neon wizard?
