  1. Naw, it's been around for years. You're just isolated from the rest of the world in that State ... Worse than the State I'm in...
  2. Interesting story and view point. I could not agree with it more. Who is Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson? I assume he is black considering some points he made and the wording he used?
  3. George Carlin would get along well in here
  4. Isn't your avatar a likeness of you? What's the website? www. sign forums .com? Guess I've never been to that one.
  5. Well, neither am I when it comes to camera's Nor am I a doctor or chemist. Just a po' 'ol neon bender I don't know about digital camera's but I do know that film camera's are sensitive to the red and violet spectrums. If digital's are as well then they would more than likely display the same effects as a film camera. If ultra blue emits close to the ultra violet spectrum (purple-violet-black light) that could be your problem. You may need to use an ultra violet filter to get it to look right. Just as wild-ass guess 'cause I don't really know for sure.
  6. Wheeew... got half of the pumps on the trailer (puff-puff). I'm too old for this sh!t (pant-pant) (Where's the little smiley panting for breath?) "Eventually" is the hopeful key word here. No guarantee's. Some of these pumps may not be rebuildable. Only time will tell
  7. Yeah, I'm going to have a lot of "fun" this weekend. > Go rent U-Haul trailer > Load 16 used Welch 1402's in the trailer > Load 16 new motors for the pumps > Load 4 cases of oil for the pumps > Load all the misc. new items for the pumps > Drive 9 hours to deliver pumps to the rebuilding shop > Unload all the above items when I arrive (hopefully will have some help) > Drive 9 hours home ARE WE HAVING FUN YET? :bitchin:
  8. I agree with you guys that there are some that actually do need help. But I believe they are much fewer than most people are willing to admit. I'm sure I don't have to explain what the welfare situation is in a large metropolitan area in the deep South Many of them have "side jobs" (because playing the welfare game is their first job). They do odd jobs for cash and beg for handouts. And I'm sure they report making that cash, right? Some of them stop in my shop on a semi-regular basis: "Need your floors swept?" "Need your truck washed?" "Have any odd jobs I can do to make some money so I can eat?" The first time I saw one of these characters in the checkout line at the grocery store paying for his purchase with his food card it really pissed me off. I never did give them any handouts before this because there is a food bank for the poor 3 or 4 miles down the road from my shop, so if they really needed food it was within a long walk. Not to mention there is a lot of other help in this county for such things. But after the grocery store "sighting" I don't even have the time to acknowledge them any more because all they want is booze and cigarette money, which they don't get from welfare. Sorry, this is a sore subject with me. I could rant about it for hours, so I better stop now.
  9. She has had more than her 15 minutes of fame. She has been in the spotlight too long. Problem is, she doesn't know what to do with the camera time. The few brief moments I have forced myself to listen to her dribble she just sounded like an idiot who didn't really know what she was talking about. It ain't over. I think you are right about the gold digger part. I predict a book before too long.... $$$
  10. No doubt people like Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al are at odds with this statement and the guy who wrote it! I won't get in to my feelings on why there are 3rd and 4th generation people still on welfare. It would sound way too racist even though it only be statistical.
  11. Is that ad for real? I can't believe Heineken would do that. Dumb.
  12. >>Just my $.05 worth.<< Whats this, inflation? I thought it was, my $.02 worth. Yup, and with the price of gas the way it is it may go even higher Joe, I know a flat tax would not dissolve the IRS. But it would, shall we say, cut it down to size considerably to where the people would have more control over it again. Though I will say, to do away with it completely would probably be cause for the largest country-wide celebration in history! (I would actually have to take time off from work for that one). No, I'm not necessarily afraid of the IRS in the strict sense of the term fear. But I have a great respect for what they can do to you if you buck their system. Case in point: One time they got my tax return and SS number mixed up with someone else's (long story and we all know the IRS doesn't make mistakes!). They sent me letters, which I never got because they were sending them to the other persons address, so naturally I didn't respond or call them. They froze my bank account for non payment of taxes. It took me almost a month to get the mess straightened out and be able to start using my account again. Messed up my credit for a while too because of late payments, etc. But do you think the IRS would admit any wrong-doing and write a letter for me to send around to my creditors? Hell no! They had the attitude that it was my fault! That's just one small example. There are thousands of instances where they have screwed up someone's life and side stepped any responsibility. I'll try to check out the link when I get some extra time. Right now I shouldn't even be doing this as I am running behind schedule again to get things done.
  13. Hmmm... Interesting. The sad reality of it is, most - if not all of it - is true. I remember when the news media with cameras rolling first started talking to people in the shelters. The were yelling and screaming about who was going to help them and when the president was going to do something about it. One even said (yelling) "When am I going to get my check?" In the situation she was in, that was her number one priority as it was with many others who stuck their face in front of the camera. One of the snipers (a black man) who was taking shots at doctors trying to evacuate people from a hospital yelled "This is for all the years of oppression!" I thought, WTF does that have to do with the doctors trying to save your own kind? Thanks for posting that Travis. It sheds a new light on things and answers a few nagging questions I've had about the situation, such as 'What is wrong with this picture? It doesn't make sense what is going on there." Now it does.
  14. How cruel of you! He does have to survive you know. And the "good stuff" is better for you than the cheap stuff People like that are obviously part of the problem and not the solution. And I see he HAD to get that one extra in his back pocket too
  15. I have not visited the site link you posted, but it sounds similar to a flat tax, which was gaining some momentum for a while but don't hear anything about it any more. I like the basic idea of either. But there is one big reason I don't think either will ever happen: The IRS itself! The politicians are just as afraid of them as we are. The IRS is what I call the American Gestapo. They can show up at your home or business unannounced any time they want to and look at your records. If you refuse and tell them to make an appointment you had better be prepared for the screwing of your life! They will come back with a court order (no judge will refuse them either) and make your life absolutely miserable. I have been audited twice. The second time was such a joke it wasn't funny. It was nothing more than a waste of my time and (I think) an intended waste of time for the IRS guy. The IRS auditor spent 2-1/2 weeks of time spread out over a 3 month period. When he was done he made some minor adjustments to my previous 2 years tax returns, but I still didn't end up owing any additional tax. I flat out asked him what the hell was going on? His reply? "I'm just doing my job." Yeah, right! All these hearings regarding the IRS that were going on a few years ago were a joke for the most part. Why? Because some of the politicians heading up the hearings immediately became IRS audit targets as did many of the people who testified. If anything even remotely resembles a plan to eliminate, or even greatly reduce the IRS, it ain't gonna happen. The IRS would have all of them on the chopping block before they had a chance to do anything. Further, can you imagine how many people would be unemployed? Not just the IRS employees, but a whole bunch of accountants too. I'd love to see something happen, but I don't think it ever will. Just my $.05 worth.
  16. Oh great! You do this to me and then make ME fix it. Okay, done... I probably do need to come up with an avatar - but that ain't it :D
  17. Alright now WCSG... take that avatar down. That's not even close to the one I have. Mine is very well done. Not the babble of an old out of work actor acting as a figure head for an organization I don't even recall all the details of mine it's been so long since I've had it out of the closet. But if I remember correctly it's a Bald Eagle with it's talons clasping the American Flag and a banner that says "The Right To Keep And Bare Arms". I may have to dig it out and see if I can get a scan of it. Probably will be kind of difficult though because it's slightly curved. I'm not a big gun guy either. I own one gun "just in case". (An S&W .357 magnum loaded with 158 gr. jacketed hollow points). But if the Feds told me I had to hand it over to them because someone else was misusing theirs I would not go quietly into the night :bitchin: One of my brothers on the other hand would probably unlock his arsenal and tell them they can have it when they pry it out of his cold dead hands :D Travis, thanks for the thought. We are far enough inland. It missed us completely. Didn't even get any rain from it.
  18. Haven't heard anything about it yet. I will be watching the evening news for sure tonight. If it is true you can bet your a$$ the NRA will be there carrying their own! Btw, I have a large belt buckle with the Second Amendment slogan on it :D (the things you don't know about me....)
  19. Travis, Sounds like that area has its own little dictatorship going. I can see all kinds of legal implications with the instances you mentioned. A "Grandfather" clause on the sign face change just to mention one. WCSG, Speaking of city codes, Hilton Head, SC is for the most part an upper-end golfing community. They do not allow ANY illuminated signs and the signs they do allow cannot be over a certain height.
  20. My story is too long to type it out - much less post it here in printed form for the "wolves" to see. But it involves a lot of back-stabbing by my (former) 4 closest friends and ex-wife. In a nut shell, sometimes you never know who you can trust when large amounts of money are involved. I'll tell it to you sometime on the phone if you are that interested and have an hour or so to spend on the call.
  21. LMAO! I hear every word you are saying and couldn't agree more. I think the worst case of this "outcome based education" was one night in a grocery store. My wife and I were standing in line behind a kid we knew who was IN COLLEGE. When he went to pay for his purchase he tried counting his money but couldn't. He held out his hand full of money for the cashier to take what she needed. If it were not for us standing behind him she could have ripped him off and he would never have known the difference! Here's the good part: His mother, who we also knew, was a SCHOOL TEACHER!!! Welcome to South Carolina, the State who is always fighting with Mississippi for last place on the education list!
  22. I believe it's that way everywhere. They are *supposed* to sell it for what it is advertised for on the sign. But who is going to go to court over $0.10/gal? Once the pump is set for a given price it would be a major PITA to "refund" a few cents a gallon. So unfortunately you are going to get the response VSP did. After all, if the cash register didn't tell them how much change to give back they would be lost anyway
  23. LOL! Well, if it wasn't hot enough before it sure is now - at least for me since that ugly mother f*cker Jessie Jackson stuck his mug in front of the cameras down there. Can you believe that moron actually compared the people who took shelter in the Super Dome to "slaves on slave ships"??? IMO one of the major reasons why race relations in this country are not progressing any faster than they are is BECAUSE of people like Jessie Jackson who can't get through a conversation without playing the race card. So here's a question for Mr. Intelligent: Hey Jessie, how many of your millions have you personally contributed to the relief effort? Yeah, that's what I thought. Your "presence" there is more than enough contribution...
  24. Sounds like the Mayor of NO took a queue from that old proclamation. Hell, his comments were almost a direct quote from what I heard!
