I'm sending a notice to all that I'm going to be trimming down on our testing and purging a lot of LED products that are either out dated or the manufacturers are no longer vendors here. Currently we have just too many and a lot are out dated and some of those companies have downsized or pretty much non-existent, or I just no no desire to pursue them since their either not widely used or advertised as much as they used to be. I'm going to keep the mainstream guys because well, that's who a lot liek to watch and observe to see if their products last as long as they claim in the full sized magazine page ads say it does, like GE, USLED, Agilight, Sloan, and probably Sylvania / Osram. All others unless their vendors from this site I'll be tossing those out, I may keep some smaller vendors around but I'll pay that by ear. Anyone know if Permlight is still around? Haven't seen them at a show for awhile now and not sure if they even advertise in magazine anymore. So, if you're not one of the named above, shoot me over a message if you still want to stay on board, otherwise the "Purge" is coming to make room for others in the following tests The Great White Hope II Project Tighty Whitey The Red Light District Blue Light Special Nothing will be changing for Border Security, maybe just drop one or two. Thanks!

Sorry everyone for the further delay on getting the Great White Hope back up in the running. It was supposed to be up in Aug, then Sept, then Oct. It became even harder once the Christmas Season got closer but the good news is it WILL be even better than the first because the Neon will have a broader variety than before. We will have FMS Neon, EGL, Voltarc, maybe Tecnolux but one vendor I'm looking forward too is one from across the great pond...."Glostertube" It's taking longer but I think the wait will be worth it at the end. Remember when we first started this test it was more about how LED's compare to Neon, now we'll concentrate more on the individual comparison of what each product can give you according to your application. Sadly we ended at 36k hours but this will be our new 100,000 hour test and beyond for high powered whites.

Well as stated before in a previous thread.....It's OPEN HOUSE!!! In short the test results are available to everyone in the sign industry. All you have to do is log in to this site first, or register for free if you have not already done so, then visit the various light source testing project tutorials (listed below) and download the current .pdf test results. The reason for this, I want a bigger participation. I think this industry needs it VERY bad because of all the industry myths and misinformation about light sources. Education seems to be lacking in this department and a lot of shops depend on the word of the manufacturer rep or a sign supplier rep. The only thing we ask is, if you like what you see and if it helps you make better buying decisions for your sign applications that you build then you can support us and the tests we do by either upgrading your free membership to a Board Patron which has it's additional benefits or by purchasing electrical sign supplies that we sell here on The Sign Syndicate as you'll see in the test result sheets! The Light Source Testing List: The Great White Hope Project Tighty Whitey The Red Light District Border Security The Blue Light Special One thing that we don't sell here on The Sign Syndicate for the exact reasons of these tests is sell Neon Glass or LED Modules because I know most would think us bias if we did. So because of this, we'll only sell electrical sign supplies that compliment these light sources such as LED power supplies, and neon wiring & Transformers etc. You'll also notice a lot of Light Source MFG's signed up here on the Sign Syndicate and submitted their lamps for the testing. Some did not, and you'll see "Non-Willing Participant" next to their name in the Tutorial product listings. Most did not want to because they did not want to be compared or called out on their claims when they show up to your shop and tell you you should buy theirs because they are superior. Well, all we can do here is include some of those MFG's anyway and throw them up on the board and see where they might fall. We hope some of them at some point join us and take part because they want to. They ALL have an open invitation to do so. We thinks it's a good idea and there is a lot to learn and most of the time it just begs more questions than results can answer. Since you may be new to these test results you might have questions, please feel free to click on the "Support Topic" button located in each light project tutorial or choose form the list here. http://www.thesignsyndicate.com/forums/index.php?/forum/73-tutorial-support-forum/ We have a lot of updating to do, so bare with us, we'll get to it! This month we also get to introduce Project Blue Light Special a tutorial on fabricating blue faced channel letters. Within a month or so we'll start a new project on Green faced Channel Letters since a lot of large sign programs do green sign faced channel letters. in case you can't find it, or find this sire confusing the Light Testing link is on the top menu bar, or click here http://www.thesignsyndicate.com/forums/index.php?/tutorials/ Not all tutorials are available for free members. Once again we're making information available to the Electric Sign Industry that you WON'T find anywhere else, so your support is appreciated! So log in to get access to the various Tutorials, download the newest test result sheet and Enjoy....and Cheers!!!

The New January 2012 - Neon & LED results are out! The Great White Hope - The High Powered white Neon & LED comparison (26,000+ Hours) - It's getting closer that that time where we can officially say a lot of these manufacturers are at their 70% life. Some have been way beyond it for some time, some are not even close yet. This month we are proud to finally introduce FMS Neon's Brillite Tri-phosphor Neon lamp into the mix, since 26,000 hours ago there we have another Neon lamp! Project Tighty Whitey - The Mid and Mini White LED only comparison (20,000+ Hours) - Roughly 10 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than last month. Some LED module output is untouched, some continued to lower in light output. The Red Light District - The Red Neon & LED comparison (13,000+ Hours) - We're starting to see a fast gradual failure of a major manufacturer. With that said I think it's time we think about pulling the plug and replacing it with another manufacturer. Border Security - The Neon & LED Border Tube comparison (3,000+ Hours) - With just a small rise in temperature it's amazing to see what that does to our exposed CCFL lamps, formally known as "Neon".

The New December results are out! The Great White Hope - The High Powered white Neon & LED comparison (25,000+ Hours) - The coldest month in ambient temperatures. So what does that mean? It means neon takes a huge hit since last month, LEDs rose. Some long time products hardly to none at all with the lowest temp to date, curious to see if they finally hit that curve, will be interesting to see what happens in this next year Project Tighty Whitey - The Mid and Mini White LED only comparison (19,000+ Hours) - The coldest ambient temps to date for this project. Just about every single product rose with the temperatures, some stayed the same as last month, some are still degrading. The Red Light District - The Red Neon & LED comparison (13,000+ Hours) - With the coldest ambient temperatures for this project we see a rise in light output from all LED light sources, even a small rise from the Neon lamp which is a little odd since temperatures should not effect light output from gas lamp. Border Security - The Neon & LED Border Tube comparison (3,000+ Hours) - With the coldest month to date in ambient temperatures we are seeing a huge drop in light output from the neon sources. As you can imagine with no face covers to insulate compartment temperatures we get an even larger drop in light sources as it relates to neon in this test. What is odd interesting is hardly a rise in temps coming from the LED tubing sources, and that's likely because they are insulated to begin with. This month we started our RED section introducing Sloan LEDs StripeLED, and LEDNeon-Flex's pro line. This will be followed by neon source as well

The New November results are out! The Great White Hope - The High Powered white Neon & LED comparison (25,000+ Hours) - This month we added some products from our Board Vendors, International Light Technologies new LED line as well as LumiText's new LumiString Project Tighty Whitey - The Mid and Mini White LED only comparison (18,000+ Hours) - This month we dropped a major manufacturer and added a whole bunch of Board Vendors LEDs. International Light Technologies, Lumitext's LumiString, EGL's Veritas, and Ventex's slimline. Also adding as a Non-Willing participant, SloanLED's "Value Plus, and V-180 series" The Red Light District - The Red Neon & LED comparison (12,000+ Hours) - This month we also from our Board Vendors we added EGL's Veritas and International Light Technologies LED lines Border Security - The Neon & LED Border Tube comparison (2,600+ Hours) - Interesting results this month. Maybe to be expected and not to be expected? I think we have to keep a close on this test.
