  1. Treat them as you would any new unknown customer. Make your terms and see what happens. Let us all know.
  2. These are the same letters as Rite_Aid Pharmacy. I will try to fingd a mfg name
  3. I don't get it. If the ground is unstable for the use of ladders, how do you get a truck in there. The wieght of the truck would make it extremley unstable causing the bucket to turn over. If you have to tie off at both ends while making the transfer and the truck shifts...you will be a human rubberband. Common sense precautions ? There is none. Even a broken clock is right twice a day
  4. I guess neon does'nt work well on igloos. Its hard to see while riding on dog sleds
  5. Neon......, Its a beautiful thing ! We have kept busy with neon manufacturing and repairs for the last 5 years straight. We push neon in all our channel letters with the guarantee and brightness that no one else can. The educated customer will not buy LED signs after I speak to them. Neon is for the talented and skilled professionals. You can't buy it out of the box or get it cheaper from the next guy off the boat.
  6. I need mini LED lighting in a flexible string line to attach to the back of aluminum flat letters. The letter stroke is 1/2 inch wide.Conected Script Style. The ribbon LEDs do not work. The letters will be raised off the wall 3/4 inch at the most. Any ideas....Thanks
  7. We are still servicing neon signs and glass that have been around since the late 40s It was manufactured by many different skilled shops. Talented skilled tradesmen. LEDs are good for certain jobs and neon is better for others. Happy Birthday to LED and many more to come...yes I said it. But as far as the shitty offsprings from China, I hope that boat sinks.
  8. Unfortunately this is a now part of everyday life. Everyday we hear about a similar event in our schools, churches and worksites. This one hits a little closer to all of us, a fellow sign guy trying to make a living. I am sure that every person here has had the thought of this. The ex employee who was fired, the employee laid off from down sizing. The guy with the family issues. The list goes on and on. After a hard week at work and you are enjoying a nice day out, some other crazy shoots up or blows up the place you are in. Life is short, make it count and do the best you can and live it to the max.
  9. I am very happy not to live, work or visit the Left Coast.
  10. It all comes down to the Individual shop and the people in this business. I started at the bottom not knowing a thing about signs. I watched, I learned I became aggresive to the point of learning everything. I was not satisfied until I could do it better then the teacher. In todays world there is a tremendous amount of education out there for those who want to learn more then swinging a hammer. The Sign Companies who are in this for the long run benifit from having the most talented and skilled labor force. They need the employee who wants to be needed and has the skills of several trades all in one. The employee who takes pride in being the best or going the extra distance is the most valuable. The ones who don't want to advance, watch the clock and bitch about the world don't go anywhere in life. They just follow. I have seen many extremely talented people in this industry thru the years. The majority are self employeed. The others can't make it alone.
  11. I watched the video....I have been doing this service for years, its called being "Pro Active" or just simple smart business. If you are out there looking at signs, drop a card and sell the job. No one esle needed.
  12. I agree with the above statements. Depending on the volume you need, if your doing only a few try this. You can buy pre cut 1/8" x 1/2" flat aluminum. Or what ever sizes you need and use a " LORDS" Product to attach them. Paint it black and your ready.
  13. I-CRANE IS A DEAD ISSUE......A DEAD HORSE.....A USED CONDOM....USELESS We all started topics to make our industry better and get ideas from others on what works and doesn't. We are now talking about new trucks and lamp boxes and a whole lot more. For everyones interest and input.....START A NEW TOPIC on the new subject. Why are we all adding to the same topic looking for new input. It's getting real old and useless. NEW TOPIC.............LAMP BOXES......Any thoughts and designs ? New TOPIC..............NEW TRUCK.......... Lets get the interest moving forward !
  14. We make all our own boxes custom to fit our truck and needs. Our lamp boxes are 10 ft 6 inches in length. We build them with rear doors and top doors. The top doors give us access to every size and to clean out any broken lamp glass. We even have a portable one set up to load on any truck when needed. The one box carries 2 full boxes of 96,108,117 and 120 each. The other carries One box of every other size. I will send pictures and measurements. It's not that difficult to make. Nice truck...International TeraStar, automatic, 300 HP ? Why a low pro chassis ?
  15. My Manitex 62 is 5 years old and works everyday. In 5 years the only issues were a leaking hydraulic outrigger hose, One blown fuse and a shorted wire. The leak was an easy fix. The other two issues were also simple repairs. My truck was built by STAMM Industries in Florida. They are the best in manufacturing and support. I would not hesitate on buying another Manitex. I have an Elliot 57. This truck works well, but doesn't come close to the Manitex as far as stability, lifting and manufacturing quality. Elliot has been around a long time and has a strong representation in the crane industry. Both trucks preform well, but my choice would be Manitex. If you're buying new, do your homework on the chassis, bodywork and crane manufacturer. Email me if you have any questions....Red is still a better color choice.
  16. I am sorry for the incorrect information. I bought the ACCU-LITE Letter forming machine . The smaller version of the full size channel letter machine. Yes I still do hand lettering and pin stripping
  17. Dreams do come true. Sometimes it takes a little longer that you want. SOMETIMES..........its better to dream and not wake up to reality LOL
  18. I just bought it. Total price with options to my door is $ 55 K. They are painting the entire unit Bright Red to match my colors. The delivery is about 4 to 6 weeks. I will let you know how it performs. It comes with no sick days, vacations, slow downs and back talk, so it should work great.,
  19. We have all been following this article with lots of interest. Some have learned the hard way and many of us have learned a great deal of knowledge. If you wanted to purchase a new truck, you learned what to look for and what not to look for. I read the statement from John, the truck dealer. I replied and made a bet with him and I-Crane for a truck . He said that I-Crane had a truck at the Atlantic City Sign Show and it was well received by all. I go to that show every year and see every truck on display. I personally know many of the sellers and we go over their product. We always look to make changes that will benefit the sign industry. My first real service truck that I designed was unveiled at that show. That truck sold 17 units that weekend. I know my stuff and and the sellers know me. Here is where the smoke and mirrors show starts. John, ( if that is really your name) you do have some of your information correct about the background of Sky ? and I-Crane and Sam. But you are not telling the truth or maybe you don't know the whole story. The guys who got the above trucks.............sorry about your loss. IN 4 TO 6 MONTHS THE SMOKE WILL CLEAR AND AND SIGN INDUSTRY WILL HAVE A REAL PRODUCT. I WILL HAVE THAT PRODUCT and parade it around without any hesitations at all. I am finished with the I-Crane issue, better things to do then kick a dead horse. Anyone who stil wants to come to NYC .........you are more then welcome to the big show
  20. John...Since you are now selling the I-Crane line. Here is an offer that will make you or break you. Let me have your newest and best I 50 for 4 weeks. Bring it to NY City and let me run it thru the tests. 24 Hrs 7 Days of constant work and city streets. If it holds up, I will buy it and defend it. If it doesn't, you can tow it back home.
  21. John...In answer to your reply...You are a salesman. You sell trucks or what ever makes you money. You don"t run a sign business. Kendel is the only person who defends I-Crane to the death. We have not heard any good from anyone else. The International Sign Show is in Florida only a few months away. It would be greatly appreciated by all to see Kendels trucks there. It would be alot better for everyone including I-Crane to be there showing their truck and put this all to an end. Where is I-Crane in this whole picture. They have never answered anyone. Its their company and their reputation on the line. If they want to make a statement in the industry, they should be on top of this. Like John said, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Maybe in several years I-Crane can stand up to the test. They have failed so far. See you in Florida.
  22. This whole discussion since the beginning should be very clear. It sounds like the same circus with different clowns. Maybe there is a new ring master, but its the same show. There is a very clear poor track record here. I don't understand why anyone would take a chance on buying anything from them. We are here to make money making signs, Not fixing trucks and hoping they will operate without problems. This is why I buy from only well respected and established companies. I need to know that the company stands up to my needs. We always hear "you get what you pay for", It's very clear here.
  23. Heres another great example of quality work. Blocking the sidewalk, 1 6 ft aluminum step ladder on the roof of the van. Installing the sign boxes and doing electrical work. A one man master of sign hanging and electrical work in one. And of course....No English
  24. Congratulations on passing the test. Did you take the telescopic and the swing cab tests also.
