  1. Hey Paul, I would like to see some of this Guaranteed Brightness neon. Dont get me wrong, I love neon in all its forms but unless its red it wont stay bright here outdoors. Even 60MA dims out and is such a power hog that no one wants it in my neighborhood....... Doug
  2. Yes that rings a bell..... I think it fell under the delete key........
  3. This is off subject but I like this new nail Gun :D Just stand back and tack the sign to the wall........or that non paying customer........... ICON yes I worked for them they pay but are very slowwwwwwww DeWalt_Nail_Gun.bmp
  4. Ahhhhhh the good ol days!! I think I remember those........ of all the things I've lost in my life I miss my mind the most.... What does PhD stand for? Piled high and deep? :)) side note..... wonders if Kgirl has a single sister :-D
  5. Other sign companies have always been the Worst!!! It a sad situation and I think it reflects badly on our trade. 2nd worst is private people with broken beer signs. half the time they dont bother to show back up when the repair is done and its time to pay for it. Doug
  6. I work in two cities that are only 10 miles apart and the rules for what needs a permit and what doesnt are completely different. In most cases a retrofit would not need a permit in any part of Alaska. taken as a whole 90% of alaska does not have permits for signs, or inspectors with any kind of life expectancy. Most of the incorporated cities have something in place though but it varies wildly. Kind of like the state!! 3 days ago it was 40 below and everyone wished it would warm UP! now its 30 above and rain, snow, wind!!! Be careful what you wish for. You might get it! Doug
  7. Thanks, its a sweltering -3 F today. I think I'll go lay out in the sun after work...........um........except the sun goes down at 4:00
  8. Hello everyone, Iwanted to take a moment to introduce myself to the group. My name is Doug and I live and work in Kenai, Alaska. I am a second generation sign maker and operate the small sign company that my father started in 1968 here in Kenai. I am new to this forum as of a couple of months ago so am still kind of learning my way around but I am sure that I will be participating in the discussions frequently. I've only been in the sign trade for 32 yrs so I'm still learning.....LOL Hello and thanks to all of you for being here on this forum and for your time in reading my words
  9. It seems to me that this is the result of poor planning in the arrangement of the jobsite and positioning of the the crane. I'm really happy that no one was killed but this is going to reinforce the pressure that is already on for increased regulation on sign companies with cranes. one of the pet peaves that I have had for a long time is that the work that we do tends to be under valued. Often this has a tendency to put pressure on sign companies to rush through projects in order to make them profitable. In Alaska the law is that the crane shall be positioned so that no part of it be "CAPABLE" of coming within 10 ft of a power line.
  10. Superfrog Anton has done some incredible things with Krylon and vinyl. make sure not to use the waterrborn variety though
  11. There is a reason for the term "Idiot Notch" I'm sure we all have done it once
