Hilton Head Sign Ordinance

Recommended Posts

Spent the day in Hilton Head, South Carolina today...... college buddy of mine lives on the course where the big shots are playing the golf tournament..... I have not been to visit him in 10 years but it was great seeing him and others..... But it is time to vent a little.... the sign ordinace there sucks the big one..... It was bad 10 years ago, but it is unfricking believable now. Some a#*hole in a business suit has come through Hilton Head and sold the City Commision that they need NO DAMN signs. If they choose to have the ONE sign they are allowed, IT must not exceed the height of the smallest midget recorded in the current Guiness Book of World Records. The town was invaded this weekend by total strangers.......who have no fricking clue where they are going..... I personally saw three rear end collisions of people who went past the business patron they were trying to serve only to be rear ended by someone else......In my opinion, it is time that the business owners step forward and get a grip on the sign police......business owners collect the most sales tax.....they pay the most for business liscences, they pay the most adv. tax and they basically keep a heartbeat going in the community.

PS...... the roads in South Carolina still suck

PS...... the roads in South Carolina still suck

We used to have some of the best roads in the country. "Smooth as glass" as my dad used to say when he visited from NY State every year. That was one of Strom Thurmond's pet things while he was in office: Keep the roads nice. Of course he probably knew who to call to get Federal money for maintenance. After all, we have no fewer than 5 Interstate highways going through this small, economically poor state. So they are a drain on other highway maintenance. In Strom's last couple of years in office it became evident that things were taking a turn for the worse. He knew he was not going to run for re-election, so he probably didn't care any more. Strom's replacement, Lindsay Graham, obviously doesn't care either. Yes, the roads have gotten bad and all they seem to do any more is throw some lose blacktop in the holes, which doesn't last long. If they bother doing any actual re-paving, it turns out terrible. There is one section of I-26 that I travel everyday that has been patched 3 times in the last 6 months. The first time it was so bad it was worse than the deteriorated road! Now it is drivable at least, but far from being smooth.

Oh yeah, Hilton Head is NOT the place for signs. Seems I mentioned this a few weeks ago in some thread.
