Delta Air Lines Ties Up With 3M To Re-brand Recently Merged Northwest Airlines

1/23/2009 1:27 PM ET

Following its merger with Northwest Airlines in October 2008, Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL: News ), announced Friday that it is working with 3M Co. (MMM: News ) to establish Delta brand across more than 200 airports worldwide, including ten airports in Minnesota. The company is in the process of re-branding Northwest Airlines to Delta Airlines.

Late 2008, Delta initiated its re-branding and consolidation of Delta and Northwest airport facilities to consistently display its distinctive patented brand colors. The airline is working with 3M's Brand Owner Solutions group to produce and install Delta's corporate and brand identity markings at Northwest-branded gates, ticket counters, check-in, loading bridges and curbside areas, as well as baggage claim service offices and other in-airport signage worldwide.

Notably, when the airliner launched its new brand in 2007, 3M transformed more than 200 Delta locations in 60 days, often completing the conversion in a single night to minimize business interruptions.

As of now, Delta and 3M have completed re-branding transformations in eight Minnesota airports namely, Bemidji, Brainerd, Duluth, Hibbing, International Falls, Rochester, St. Cloud and Thief River Falls. Delta expects to complete re-branding in the United States by the end of 2009, including its Minneapolis/St. Paul hub, which is scheduled for conversion in late March. Re-branding in international locations are expected to be complete in 2010.

DAL is currently trading at $10.44, down $0.14 or 1.32% on the NYSE.

Maybe 3M just figured everyone's real busy right now so why trouble any sign companies with obtaining a nice account, or keeping one :focus:

We just bid one of these for Detroit Metro Airport, yeah 3M is not our friend these days, and I think that the contract to install ultimately went to the carpenters. Yuck.
