Question for Installers/Maintenance Folks

Recommended Posts

This is a general question trying to get some conversation going about what installers or people maintaining signs or lighting like in a product.

For example - if you could install an entire system with just a screw driver - is that a good product?

Seems like a lot of special tools are needed to install products and it seems pretty crazy when you have to be on the top of a lift or ladder and have to mess around with such tools.

I also think that peeling the tape of LED modules is a pain in the butt and not very practical for when you have to retrofit a sign on the side of a building and it is -10 F outside!

So if you could have a product solution that really required no tools and or finger nails to peel off tape - would that be favorable to installers/maintenance folks?

Also would it be advantageous if neon transformers, fluorescent ballasts, and LED power supplies all used the same mounting footprint and style? A universal form factor?

I do have a comment on the tape. Why do you not use and tape that is thicker like the foam or 3m? I think the mods would adhere much better

it would be great for an ISO like standard for lamps and ballasts both the mechanical layout and the wiring. But I find manufacturers can't even keep the same size and footprint for the same ballast and LED packages change every 6 months.

BTW a lot of the high bond tapes CANNOT be applied at low temperatures - minimium applications temperatures are usally like 50F.
