Reader board arm changers

Hi all - here's a weird question. We aren't allowed electronic message centers in the county we are located in, and most of the local schools couldn't afford one anyway, so they all have manual reader boards. I just had one customer complain that using the arm changer pole turns her hands black. No one has ever mentioned it to us before, but she polled a few other schools and they all have the same issue. She wanted to know what we can do - the other schools have told her they wrap the pole in duct tape or wear gloves.

This is a pretty minor matter in the scheme of things, but I wanted to know if anyone else had come across this with their customers? What did you do?

Many of them are made of aluminum and the oxidation comes off on their hands. I get fiberglass poles from Neon Engineering in Cin., OH.

How heavy are the fiberglass poles? Most of the schools here have the students change letters. I did tell her it was oxidation from the aluminum, I guess I never thought that it would be a problem!

I've used these so long that I don't remember the weight of the aluminum ones. But they are not that heavy. Haven't had any complaints there. They are collapsable down to about 6 feet or so. And go out to about 18ft. At least that's the one I usually get. I think there are other options.
