The Signage Foundation

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm behind in the times but can someone tell me how the Signage Foundation Inc differs from everything else out there? I saw the headlines "Wade Swormstedt Named to the Board of Directors of the Signage Foundation, Inc.", looked at the website and it just looks like a group or association who are "more of the same at first glance" Looking at who runs it, it's all familiar names of individuals from other associations at one time or another.

How many boards can people really stretch themselves across and be proactive simultaneously?

Just Looks like a business specifically aimed at "educating" everyone outside the sign industry.

There's just too many groups these days, someone educate me on this one.

Looks like everything that ISA should be doing. it also is based out of DC which means govnt money.

It does say that they will be conducting tests. Maybe you can get retro pay for time and utilities.

GOOD things happen for a reason......

Back to this subject again.

Looking at this, not sure if there could be a bad deal for the sign industry as I look a little closer at this Signage Foundation Inc.

What would be the possibilities that while educating outsiders on sign specifications and code, certain vendors try to weasel their way in and get their products specified?

Another way manufacturers circumvent the sign companies, but on a much grandios scale? We have all seen how advertising money has dictated the Sign Associations and Trade magazines. Is this too far fetch?

I could have just very well given those, ideas.

Anyway, something I thought I would kick around.

Looking at how this org is over 8 years old I doubt it will go anywhere unless the engines of influence are going to rev the motors======= those entities can look at it as advertising money spent if they so choose.

The good ol' boys will always be just that====good ol' boys! Good thought, what a perfect way to be scribed into "green"....!!!

If I'm not mistaken, the foundatiuon was set up to lobby congress on first amendment issues and other government issues that make it difficult for sign shops to operate around bogus codes and laws. They may be the good ole boys but I know they have had some big legal wins for our industry.

That's not what the Community Organizer himself told me, he mentioned nothing about lobbying (That would make some things worse as that can be a double edged sword but hey, Lobby money is big $$$$$$$$). I was told they would mostly be involved in "educating" planners/schools/ end users on "model" sign codes, configurations, usage.

This could be too nutsy and boltsy for us to comprehend. :P
