War against women? Or advertising?

Recommended Posts

We live in a age where people are in high emotion, and political correctness (Which I am not). We live in a era where a lot of special interest groups and race hustlers are too quick to point out and claim "sexism, racism, and bigotry".

Is this article part of that? "War against Women?" Or perhaps just good advertising to get his business noticed?

Trade this image with any other gender/race i.e. child, man, hispanic, black, asian, hobo, and it will offend SOMEONE?

Poor taste? Could be. Promotion or exploitation of brutality against women? Well, anyone can see what they want and stand in line to complain or be offended about anything they want. Should we also ban all those cartoons that we grew up with where the bad buys ties up the girl to railroad tracks all under the movement of "brutality against women"?

Should we even go so far and to say that this franchise quick market is also offensive to women? I mean, what if there was a image of a women attached to it like a Wendy's sign?

Let's see... a business owner using a shocking image to promote his product.....this is not a new idea. I'm not really insulted as a woman, maybe just a little offended that he had to use a woman in the picture (why not HIS photo?), and just plain amazed that he thought this was a good idea. That's the best he came up with? I sincerely doubt he was promoting violence against women, but this kind of crosses a line.

As to the use of the cartoon - let's face it, when this cartoon was on it was about the hero saving the damsel in distress more than the evil guy practicing violence (at least that's what I remember). I could never figure out why he tied her up on a railroad track anyway...

The market sign is not offensive, though the teenager in me giggled.

It's all about perspective, isn't it?

I always wondered why the girl in the cartoon would go back and surround herself with the bad guy, or bad guy boyfriend. Be it Olive Oil, Penelope Pitstop, and others. I mean, they always find themselves in some kind of peril or danger. And why do the good guys always hook up with girls who manage to always get themselves put on the track, do you ALWAYS want to save someone who always puts themselves in danger?

If my mom saw this advert she would probably tell me that she's tired of women looking useless and helpless rather than " marketing a brutal act towards women women"

Perspective? Haha Yep, I think anyone can and will see what they want.

I agree with your Mom - tired of the running/screaming women (I hated 50's movies for that very thing!). Maybe that's why Linda Hamilton in T2 is one of my fave heros. No train tracks for her!

A kid would be even more effective in terms of shock value. Yet I think a lot more people would be freaking out about that. I don't think any such image (woman, child, man, or even dog) is okay for selling products; now I just want to know who it is so I can avoid purchasing their products.
