  1. Happy bday, Unfortunately never got to meet face to face but did talk on the phone a few times. Gone but not forgotten.
  2. Welcome back, So.... Tell us how you really feel about the industry. I think you hit a few points very good.
  3. It sounds like a competative bid for relamping or a maintenance contract for a franchise was awarded to a consultant and they are just trying to take their peice of the pie on all phases of the project. For that individual, wouldn't it be wiser to eat the travel costs and invest a large percentage of the travel stipen into local people to bump up the labor allowance and still make out. ...unless all or a large percentage of the intial costs are out of pocket and there is a fear of reniging from the company they are trying to minamize expeses in the overall picture. Just my .03
  4. Check this out, It is a good use for plasma technology http://pesn.com/2011/06/16/9501848_PlasmERG_Preps_Factory_as_Patent_Published/
  5. In Jersey by the shore they have had the option of having their own made (following speck) or getting them shipped in. The ones I saw shipped in were from Everbrite but those were about 1.5 yrs ago. I guess who ever is the low bidder gets the work.
  6. I think it is a good idea/move for YESCO. They can expand their service facilities to places where their manufacturing is not near like they do on the West Coast and control the manufacturing from one location and ship finished product there for smaller retail jobs and have local storage and installation for corperate work all controled by HQ in Salt Lake. By franchising they have their name out there and are not the property owners ( less financial liabilities and costs) for the shop but can dictate to a certain degree about what and how things are done.
  7. Nice pictures. What a nice saturated halo. CL 28 is a beautiful color for that application. South Atlantic + Cold Cathode = perfection.
  8. Even though I hate with a passion living in this state, There is one nice thing about it, every one knows where it is and what goes on, I personally did not vote for BO and our gov has a lot to bring to the table if he does run but I dont think he will because there is a lot to do here. If he did run I bet his party would shun him to a certain extent because he could care less if you are a Dem or Rep, If you are slacking or doing anything shady he will bust you. {Age, Race, Color, Weight, etc SHOULD have no effect on your decision. The fact that you don't like "this" guy doesn't mean you should try and replace him with "that" guy.} So true. One thing is certain.... Were all F'd up in our own little way. You will never please everyone, maybe a few if your lucky. What ever you say will be twisted, mis understood or even fall on def ears 'cause it's not what they want to here. Most important is that you please yourself.
  9. Because they are boners. Our Govener is a no BS guy, Before he was Gov he busted a ton of coruption. So basically he has all the info needed to crack down against the people feeding off the Govnt tit and it scares them. "I would never trust a man to be president that can't even control his obviously out of control eating habits. How would he get our youth to practice good nutrition?? I heard he downs at least 14 hamburgers a day........." Well that sounds like the typical american answer. I would vote for him, He doesnt bow to the unions. Kids nutrition, That is the parents job, not the president. Kinda funny when you see a "large" child, most likely the parents are stuffing their faces with fast food, Over weight and lazy. Next time you are in a store just look around, F'n disgusting. Pretty lame reason for picking a president. Hell, look at the one we have now. The only reason he was elected was he is black. What has he done to help his state when he was a senator for that short time.
  10. Sad to hear but also good to hear. Was there ample warning or just an all out instant FUBAR.
  11. Wait till they have Holographic signs, No installers, no fabricators. Property management companies will be King, You no pay rent, Poof sign out. I think they are steering which ever way the money trail goes. Heading through the fog, Hey Captain, which way we going?.....Uhhh make up a direction, they'll follow anyway.
  12. I know both of ya and your both Top shelf and beyond, Gary is a world of knowledge, wish I would have met ya while you were bending in Az. and Randy you are a hell of a craftsman (if anyone has glass that needs to be made give him a shout you will not be disappointed.) The nice thing about this site is everyone gets along (with a few jabs) which is fun once in a while. Erik does have our moduals for the test. I really cant talk about them on here yet but if you have questions give me a call or shoot me a mail. One thing I can say is that we are not in a race to the bottom with price or quality. It took close to 5 years to do these and they are not "private labeled". Dave (mr green) You will see the results. well, Gotta go bend some glass. A quality made tube will outlive anyone reading this post, a hack will only give a black eye for everyone else.
  13. Probably the same LED in the 60$ flashlight my son wants me to buy. I still dont think it is because they are doing so bad in the sign industry or even have anything to do with the sign industry. Split decision on an LED TV, Heard good and bad. 2 years use on a TV in our house is like 4 in a typical home. No radios in our house, it is our white noise at night. Next week my 73" mitsubishi comes in for my sons Wii, upgrading from his 60" Wii-V.
  14. Actually it appears they are going to "give it a go" because their products are performing so badly in the industry. Just take a look at the Great White Hope and Tighty Whitey tutorials - they are doing horrible! From the names mentioned it looks like it is an issue with something in one of their 3 other fields and not the sign industry. Pretty sure Sharp, Toshiba and Feit do not make sign products.
  15. I wonder if the lead is leaching out of the glass like the tree huggers say that it does, HEHE. All my trips to vegas and havent been there. Funny thing is my 2 (non work social)tours through vegas have been from Marko and Jim. I never really seem to take time to see sights except through a windshield.
  16. Does anyone use a torch to smooth out vinyl or get it to form around rivits or to stick to rough surfaces?
  17. THe ones around here have been doing a ground up rebuilds that I 've seen. THey have been really old buildings though. White castle is doing rebuilds here as well.
  18. Yeah, as you might have guessed we’ve been following the LED product market for a long, long time now, and we think most of the systems out there still leave a lot to be desired (that’s putting it mildly in some cases). Except for red LEDs, it’s only relatively recently that the technology has come near to approaching the hype, half-truths and other marketing BS we’ve put up with in recent years – and that’s only true if you use the best LEDs in well designed systems that run them well below their upper specification limits, even at elevated temperatures. We think we’ve done that. We will continue to promote NEON, and always working on new colors and equipment for the trade but there are some situations where it is not suited as you all know. There are also many other lighting applications outside of the sign industry that NEON and LED can be used individually and together. Now we think you can get the best of both worlds from the same manufacturer. If you have any questions please call or email.
  19. Would be glad to. First I want to start off by anyone who knows me knows I am neon through and through. Rite now I have a lot of catch up work to do but will post later today.
  20. I forgot it was cinco de mayo untill after a committee meeting we went to the watering hole and it was packed. Another americanized holiday. good thing there was a lot of corona going around at a real good price.
  21. Where do I start???? Good thing I was being reserved, didnt even get a hangover once. Seeing everyone is always a blast. Make sure you get in touch with turtle man. Now I can chuckle about our call letters you modified, the cats outa the bag, see we do have a common Japanese partner. Luv both of ya in a twisted way :) Erik, thanks for sharing Kgirl w/ me & gary it's always fun. Hope to repay the favor. You always make me laugh, next time let me buy the drinks and I did hear what you whispered and the day will come. Marko, Let me know when you get down to philly. Gary, always fun sharing horror stories and having good laughs, Hey "Dust Buster" Your son will be proud to have me as his "GodFather from Jersey" See ya soon, you even cleaned the suite when you left sat night. I was worried you and trevor would have brought some dust mites back to the room Friday. To everyone else I met, I love ya all. Even if you observed from a far or are just lurking jump in and enjoy the show. Life is short live fast and party like there is no tomorrow. I'm forever 21 with no regrets and no remoarse. Most importantly to Kgirl, I will introduce you first next time. The story continues.......SHHHHHHHHH. I always told you a dirty goose tastes as good as it sounds. wait till U meet my wife and kids, she is my total opposite and they are my exact clone. To much to type in little time but you all get my drift.
  22. hey chubby, Nickle cadium wire, springs and a regular 120v variac. Give jimmy at EZ neon a shout, he made an 8 footer but a slightly differnt way. he said he tried to contact ya.
  23. We all know how to do this with acrylic - but how do we do this with a product that can pass all the flammability issues? This is supposed to be a forum where we help or advise - there has to be someone lurking on here that could post and help the group out. I am asking this for a company in New Zealand - I want them to realize that this board is a resource for such questions. Why dont they join? There is always the option of Acid etched glass (tempered safety glass) Thinking more about this topic, I would lean this way myself I guess it depends on what the budget allows, and what the customer wants, high end, temporary, installation problems, location ect.. Many factors.
  24. Frosted paint? Is there a product that you have used? In a spray can. I let my boys go crazy with it at Xmas time on the windows. I will see if I still have a can when I get home.
