  1. I would use a film so the integrity of the board is kept in tact. You could also use frosted paint like they use on windows as long as there is a flex agent in it. Sandblasting may void any warrantees.
  2. Excellent, It'll be nice to see ya again. We changed our reservations to NYNY
  3. 307 yesterday morning, by afternoon 317, this morning 312. When it gets real bad I'm going to start doing what I did a few years ago. Pay in change. That much of a fluxuation is BS, all because of Libia, BS
  4. THey are getting X amount each month per sign per location regardless if something goes wrong or not. Service contracts are good and bad. Good if you have the contract, bad if your the one fixing them. If you send a formal letter to the corperate office and describe what thier vendor is doing when the contract comes up to bid it will be a differnt ballgame. Put a mechanic lein on the stores corperate office and see how fast things are fixed. Curious if all these complaints are for the same franchise or differnt ones.
  5. http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/publications/pdfs/ssl/led-t8-flourescent-replacement.pdf I dont know if this was posted but cut and paste. They have some pretty good info on there.
  6. He,he How much constant combustable volume of methane does it take to fill a barn that is ventilated because of the smell to strike an arc.
  7. ...... Oh S**t the switch is on the other side. Get more scaffolding.
  8. I'm in, were staying at Orleans. Getting there tuesday leaving sunday. "What happens anywhere stays there untill you see it on youtube"
  9. make it in house, it's real easy or check with an extrusion company.
  10. Do you think they would get mad if before you went to the airport you ground up a #2 pencil, and took some rubber cement and wrote some ting like FU or something like that and went through the scanner. May just try that next flight.
  11. Make me #3 from Jersey. So that "leading sign industry person" [[ Guess that narrows it down to every sign jockey out there]]has all the answers and solutions so They do not need to post. or are they a lurker picking things and giving thier comment in backroom conversations.
  12. Happy birthday Batch, Hope you had a good one.
  13. Correct, Marcus is not allowed to be product specific unlike other articles that have been written. He is not employeed by a manufacturer or "sign shop" Most importantly he has a scientific background that goes far beyond the sign industry, located in Europe (which is far advanced in R&D on conserving energy than North America & China is)and will not put anything into writting or talk about it in conversations if he is not 110% sure and researched and analized it over and over again. I've known Marcus for about 15 years. Marko said--""I wouldn't trust Marcus Thielen to present the info in an unbiased way any more than say, GE about their energy savings,"" Honestly Marko, That is a very absurb comment. GE is all about strong arming and media deception.
  14. I have been asking the same question. MET Labs gave the only answer to me. Even UL when I asked about it on a show floor the only answer was to ask my local inspector. I dont think they can enforce it like they cant enforce non UL signage. "unless there is a problem and they are called in by a township to inspect, after a catastrophy has happened. There was a mall that I did many moons ago in Rockland county, NY where the landlord wanted all the red neon changed to white with new faces required the UL inspector, fire marshall and building inspector on site. Tennants werent to happy about the excess bill that was passed on to them. The only thing that was done was change tubes. Now your talking about changing entire lighting systems at a whim and it's OK. I to would like to know what recycling is done to the replaced LED systems. Any flourescent system can be 100% recycled if the proper channels are followed. I think a good case study would be the CVS or walgreen program that has been converted back and forth a few times with differnt systems. Oddly enough the vast majority of neon that was removed, replaced and removed was clear red. The Citgo sign is an excellent one location case and would definately like to see the results from that one.
  15. The inspectors around here are pretty easy going. at one time the inspector that visited my friends shop was primarily an appliance inspector and didnt know very much about the products used in the signs. He was "filling in" for about a year. This is going back about 5 years or so ago.
  16. Sounds like you have to much air pressure. On the old Hydes the ports are larger for the last few inches. If you have removed the screen make sure that you put it back in the rite direction. This was done so you can have a nice flame on the end. Do you have the economiser that has a lever or the push/pull type. Did the vibration stop when you turned the gas off??
  17. you can make 8 ft raceways and install it as a finished fixture. You can use the boot method. I would use tecnolux 18mm silicone boots. They will go over our 19mm electrodes easily.
  18. Hey Arryn, 15mm is generally the standard for border units. Depending on how much is needed you may want to look at an even larger diameter to maximize the transformer load. I personally would do 20mm. If you need someone to do the larger diameter or even the 15mm I would recommend Randy at South Atlantic neon for the job. I've been to his facility. Top shelf all around, and an OK guy to top it off
  19. Good luck waiting. We waited a few "years for a california power companies results on product we made that were requested from them. After badgering them for results the only answer was: we can not send in any form or tell you the results because they did not turn out the way they were expected to. What is the defecit in California???? Wonder where the money came from???
  20. I'm curious as well. Here in Jersey and most states our companies offer a pro rate that gets divided up over the year so your gas bill will be equal all year instead of monsterous bills in the winter for heat. Same with electric for AC. Question is how will it be deducted from a prorated bill??? I personally think they just take the breaks from the govnt and maybe reduce the bill a little but I dont think they will give everything you deserve.
  21. I heard about that on the radio the other day. It was up for 2 weeks before someone noticed that.
