  1. My 3 yr includes everything, even lamps. The 5 yr seems to be a stretch now. Sometimes our hands are tied in our fabrication choices. Landlords specking LED's only, no neon for example. Or corporate specs on parts I would never use. Sometimes warranties are a gamble. So you have to be budget conscious, as well as trust worthy in the components you buy. As we've all learned, even the top product suppliers have a bad "batch or run" on their products. Sure they'll cover the cost of part replacements. Getting them to pay for labor is another thing. The company I worked at, prior to starting my own shop. Did about 20 sets of letters (3' tall) with LED's. In less than 18 months, all the signs had major failures. The LED's/PS's that were used, were from a reputable company. They did not step up, and cover any labor. Or would they refund the cost of their products, so we could switch to a different supplier. That was a huge hit, they will never get my business.
  2. Good topic Erik! I'm still holding to my 3 yr warranty, parts and labor. I won't cut corners on materials, or fabrication. I will never be the cheapest sign builder. And am not looking for that client base. The old saying, "You get what you pay for".. Still plays out today.
  3. I have a job I need to quote. That's calling out for Chrome embossed faces. Anyone here fabricate these? Or someone know a source?
  4. Seen the same thing as well. I think I posted a pic on here last year that had 6 P.S. in one box. We follow code here. Nothing leaves our shop un mounted, or without the toggle switch wired. We even inspect our national install parts. It's a whole lot more cost effective for a shop guy to wire and mount them. Then having my installers jack with it in the field. Oh, don't forget the wire nuts on the last LED in a row. Can't leave those hi voltage clipped wires exposed.....
  5. I wouldn't be getting a booth. Just attending, and getting away from the office. Drink a lot, do some fishing, show my ass off in a different state...
  6. Looks like the wife and I are going to attempt to pull it off.
  7. Made some investments to allow us to grow. Added 2 employees. We made a small profit! I like turtles...
  8. I only use 3/16 plex. But Erik, I may have to rethink on the 3/4" Plasco.
  9. In 24 years. I can't remember using, or seeing 3/4" trim spec'd. I'm not sure if the supply houses around here stock 3/4". I never recall them trying to push it.
  10. Dang, I think me and the ball and chain are going to hit it. Need a reason to do some FL. fishing.
  11. James see attached link... http://www.signsmanufacturing.com/signage/Alltex_Signs.htm?gclid=CJKiiq2jtbsCFeHm7AodUn0ACA
  12. No clue Signs Manufacturing. Why don't you hi jack OSHA's website as well. I'm sure you can try to get some of their business as well. Have to say thanks, for trying to sponge our customers, via google. The ones that actually looked at your web site, had a good laugh.
  13. We use the Verizon cell phone/ 2 way -one touch phones. Works pretty well. Plus I run the Field Force Mgr add on program. Which shows where the phone is 24/7. Basically a mobile GPS system. Which updates ever couple of minutes. Makes it real easy to break down job time vs driving time. As far as headsets go, we don't have them. Anyone driving one of my CDL trucks is not allowed to use the phone until they're stopped.
  14. Not true as far as UL is concerned .... UL 48 15th Edition Page 56 4.3.4 Disconnect Switch 4.3.4.2 - A disconnect switch shall have a marked "Off" position and shall disconnect the supply source by causing an air gap between opposing contacts in a circuit. When the switch is operated vertically rather than horizontally, the down position shall be the off position. Kevin, you're correct, I was wrong. I just read my VN report again (from 4 months ago). As a practice, we always (in the past) put the ON position down. So birds, or what ever crap that hits switches can't turn it off. I remember this discussion with our UL inspector. He seemed to agree with us. And we concluded at that time, horizontal is the way for us to go.
  15. I can say I am happy with UL. Haven't had any issues with them. They do quarterly surprise inspections. Our inspector showed up the same morning I was dealing with our break in. And graciously agreed to come back and do his surprise inspection, which he did. The only VN we've received (not charged) was on our switch. They need to toggle sideways, instead of up and down. Which was news to us. I'd say 90% of the UL signs that ship to us, have their switches up and down. As far as extra inspections beyond our quarterly, I'm unaware of those. If it's based off manufacturing, I wish I was busy enough for those.
  16. I had a guy who can trash those bins up for you in a week! Let me know if you're interested. I think he's still looking for work...
  17. Just got my response from the Texas Licensing dept...They're no help.. I guess I'll have to live with them being A holes, and using my name in their ad. Unless my lawyer pays off. Oh well, at least I maintain dignity in our trade.
  18. Larry, you should file a complaint with the TDLR. There is power in numbers!
  19. Our bins lock, they just weren't...
  20. We got hit last night. Stripped our 3 trucks clean of all ballasts, transformers, power supplies, and fittings. We pull the tools every night, thank God. Really sucks when you build up your inventory so you can better serve your customers. We lost 100+ ballasts and transformers. We found 1 new ballast hanging on the fence, by its leads. They even took about 30 out of the cardboard boxes. I guess it's easier to carry by the leads. They're probably at a scrap yard by now, cashing in. They even stole our stack of bad ballasts and trans, we recycle. I hate a thief. I'm going to end up on the nightly news. Getting a nice camera system and a silent motion sensor alarm for the yard today. I'm less than a 5 min drive from the shop. Some bastard is going to die from lead poisoning. They didn't get everything, just got into the unlocked boxes...Yup, unlocked. They tried to get into a few of the locked bins. Got those re secured and straightened out the best we could for today. Fixing to find out how good my insurance is...
  21. 6.0 motor sucks. I have one in my F350. It runs good, but plan on spending 4-6k every couple years keeping it running. This is my personal vehicle I don't rag out. It only has 140k on it. It was OK when it was in warranty, and Ford paid the repair bill.
