  1. I have a job that has 5" and 8" EIFS over concrete mounting 30" self contained channel letters. Anyone run into these kind depths on EIFS? If so what did you use for mounting? I think it is crazy to use EIFS of this depth over concrete with windows above and below.
  2. Double Post... I use either the paddle bit pushed through the outer layer or more often I'll use an older bit in my Hilti TE 25. I then switch to the appropriate drill for the underlying substrate.
  3. I grew up in the sign trade knowing EIFS (pronounced eefis) as Dryvit. In case some were wondering Dryvit was the first manufacturer in the states. So they got the default name for a couple of decades. Now this system is called Externally Insulated Finishing System or EIFS. We are having big problems with this stuff down here. We get 2 1/2" to up to 8" of this shit on the exterior of walls that are up to 36" of solid concrete. Bullshit...
  4. Where about in Palm Beach County? I know a good guy down here in Broward. The guy does really good work for a very reasonable price and with more then acceptable turn around. I also have a tube bender friend that has a shop in the Boca/Delray area and he has a partner up there as well. I could call him if your interested.
  5. I looked for the photo in the gallery and in Lane's profile. I must be missing something. I only see 4 for Lane. I use an umbrella regularly and we have Bimini tops on both of the two man baskets. I'd like to see the picks of Lane's rig as well as any other ideas people use for staying cool in the heat.
  6. I was wondering what the equipment that you use for installation is typically? Do you use anything to help with you exposure to the sun, rain or what not?
  7. I was unaware of the law. I work for a company where many of us are permitted to carry. The law allows you to carry openly or concealed without a lic. in Florida at your place of work.
  8. Travis, if you could be more specific I would appreciate it. Florida law and probably all gun laws are tricky. Like being able to carry open in you apartment. But, you are illegal carrying across hallways and driveways. Or like this beauty matching recent posts... "Firearms lawfully possessed may not be seized during any declared “ state of emergency” if the possessor is not engaged in a crime. But, it’s a crime to possess a firearm in a “public place” when a local sheriff or public official declares a “state of emergency” per F.S. 870.044, but not when the governor declares a “state of emergency” since that’s under F.S. 14.021 &.022."
  9. Guns are very basic machines. You have a tube, a propellant, a projectile and and a way to ignite the propellant. Guns of all complexity are found in MAXIMUM SECURITY prisons. Some get smuggled in but most are made right there by the inmates. They either acquire gun powder or let the nitrates build up in their urine by becoming dehydrated and then pissing on pulverized match heads. Then they dry it and you have a viable propellant. Anything can be used as the projectile. Buttons, bearings, short dowels and many other things are used. Needless to say that anyone that can figure out how to google homemade guns can get the plans. In the Middle East and Africa's war torn countries many of the firearms in service are "homemade" or have been repaired using homemade parts built on basic machine tools. Since most anti-gun people think that a fully automatic weapon is "deadlier" then a semi-automatic weapon. It should be noted that the semi-auto or select fire weapon is considerably harder to build and get to work reliably then a full auto is.
  10. Well, let me see. I thought it was amusing that a guy that thought a mention of "god" was referring to his GOD and didn't care which god Nuggent meant. He then quoted a biblical passage that refers to a person who makes there living with or uses a weapon with out regard for the consequences as being likely to die from the sword. I just thought it ironic that the more fitting biblical passage countered his own argument. I am not religious if that was your guess. I am very much a proponent of individual self defense. My daily carry habits would usually alarm most folks. I am a strong support of individual rights and more importantly the reason we need those rights. As I posted I alone may stop an aggressor against my self and more importantly my family. This is a touchy subject (self defense) as is religion for some. It is not for me. If you reread my post quoting a religious person and then countering their quote with one from their own arsenal. I think you will see my REASON instead of the lack you mention. Anyway, some times posts convey less or more then intended and some times the wrong point at all. So to clarify. I am not offended or angry about anything. LOL I am a student of practical unarmed self defense and armed defense. Its hard to get into that with folks you don't know without it coming off wrong. Suffice it to say I believe in being armed at all times and being trained in techniques that require minimal skill and good results in dynamic situations. If you guys want to discuss that and our individual preparedness we can start another thread... Also Branch Davidians are Christians...
  11. More importantly, the CCW shall issue laws had the same out cry from critics. Florida was going to become the wild west. Instead violent crimes dropped. Knowing that anyone could be packing makes the decision to attack a little riskier on the attackers part. Mandating that all of a certain demographic own firearms is a way of taking away that demographics freedom to own firearms or not to. So it is against freedom. But, I think it was more a political stunt and have never heard of a single attempt to enforce the law... Which doesn't justify the law. Nor does it show any injustices...
  12. Ted Nuggent gets it. Laws don't prevent crimes. They outline when one commits a crime. Police don't prevent crime. They investigate crimes. This is obvious when you listen to some of the horrible tapes of 911 calls where people had time to call about someone breaking into there homes. The police arrive in time to investigate the rape/murders and the whole thing is caught on audio recordings. As for the last comment at the bottom of the article: "John Thatamanil, Nashville, Tennessee "A God-given right to bear guns?" Dear Mr. Nugent, which God, pray tell, are you speaking about? Surely not Jesus, you know, the one who said, "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword." Frankly, I find Mr. Nugent whatever God he claims to worship terribly frightening. Stick to rock, Mr. Nugent, you are terrifically good at that!" I think Jesus has also been credited with this: Luke 22:36 "and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."
  13. Advanced AFD technology is great! I am using it now...
  14. I have not read some of the more lengthy post all the way through. I grew up in the electrical sign trade, I am a Florida State Licensed Electrical sign Contractor. I have many friends that work in the electrical sign trade. The vast majority either don't have any computer skills or have no interest in learning the trade beyond what they know now. We have 11 field people employees. I am the only one who carries the codes (pdf on my pda). 3 of us know how to use a computer. I am by far and away the most advanced in the company. Shop people use computers. But, they never go to sign sites... I spend a decent amount of time on forums. I am an admin at vBulletin forums. I never see much productive conversation in the chat feature. I post or PM. As far as teaching others. As a teacher of many I have never had to worried about my students. I have met a couple of people with that attitude though.
  15. I did a shit load of installation off of ladders and ladder jacks. Got busted by a very sexy OSHA agent in 2001 named Mercedes. LOL 15' to the pick board and no fall protection. I hate wearing fall protection on a pickboard so I don't work them much anymore. Definetly a needed tool at times though.
  16. I don't see the pics... :)
  17. Down here you would never see a footer like that. Most footers don't go more then 48" deep. I have seen some monster footers pulled out of the ground with motor cranes. The company I work for now always seems to want to pull old footers. Back hoes digging around the footer and 50 ton cranes pulling at critical lift weights and they can't get them out. We had one that the guys were gonna install and they hit an old footer. I told them to dig to the edges and then get me the depth. The footer was like 25' across and 25' wide and like 5' deep or what ever. This was a little monument like the one shown and my boss didn't want to use the existing footer!
  18. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
