Job Summary:
The role of the Fabrication Estimator is to review potential projects and develop fabrication and installation cost estimates that sales can use as the basis for a proposal. The process starts with an analysis of the various project elements, which leads to the development of a general fabrication strategy. At that point, the estimator must research potential subcontractor/supplier options and collaborate with internal fabrication staff in an effort to collect all project costs. Those costs are fed into a formal estimation spreadsheet and appropriate margins are applied to create the overall pricing for the project. This information is then handed back to sales to construct the final proposal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Analyze projects to determine estimation strategy -- possible fabrication techniques, subcontracted elements, margin goals, value engineering options, etc. • Review bid package to ensure understanding of deadlines and special requirements (bonds, specific licenses, site restrictions). • Prepare request for information that addresses any discrepancies or areas that need further clarification. • Contact Subcontractors and Suppliers to acquire cost information for materials and contractor services. • Evaluate fabrication requirements and assess cost, consulting with fabrication leads when necessary. • Identify sign types that are similar to those fabricated in the past, and gather copies of previous pricing proposals, subcontractor quotes, and estimate sheets. • Document all disclaimers, exclusions and clarifications related to the bid. • Archive the bid package in a well organized binder that includes all cost estimates and subcontractor quotes so that the project manager has a reference point for the initial contracted scope of work.
Requirements:
