  1. Yeah, but now it just doesn't seem as funny!
  2. Yes, we've installed EJ signs for FastSigns National Accounts - they pay FAST!! Gotta love it! The signs are built - mostly - at Hanson Sign Co in Falconer NY (no relation to me).
  3. From my computer. Used the attachments / browse/ thingie, then "attach this file". Um - it's a bmp, is that the issue? SignMaker.bmp
  4. hmmm. let's see if I can get this attached..... what am I doing wrong?
  5. My boss forwarded me this photo...
  6. Great! I've been so curious about using LEDs for office lighting.
  7. We've had and SX60 mounted on a 2001 freightliner - bought it new in 2001 and it's still going strong. I'd give it a thumbs up.
  8. We didn't attend the show, but I suspect signcompaniesonline - we were badgered to sign up for their website, but it's not been a winner for us. I still get enough sales from signsearch to justify the cost.
  9. Have they been busted yet? I'm glad you posted this - we've worked for the real SignTech before with no problem.
  10. Well, Hanson Signs in Falconer, NY does sandblasted stuff. We aren't affiliated with them, but I get calls for them pretty frequently. They do some of the Edward Jones signage we install.
  11. How heavy are the fiberglass poles? Most of the schools here have the students change letters. I did tell her it was oxidation from the aluminum, I guess I never thought that it would be a problem!
  12. Hi all - here's a weird question. We aren't allowed electronic message centers in the county we are located in, and most of the local schools couldn't afford one anyway, so they all have manual reader boards. I just had one customer complain that using the arm changer pole turns her hands black. No one has ever mentioned it to us before, but she polled a few other schools and they all have the same issue. She wanted to know what we can do - the other schools have told her they wrap the pole in duct tape or wear gloves. This is a pretty minor matter in the scheme of things, but I wanted to know if anyone else had come across this with their customers? What did you do?
  13. Our two main suppliers really go all out to find supplies for us - right now we are looking for a gloss overlay for digital prints, and no one seems to use it / stock it. We normally use a matte finish overlay, but the customer insists on gloss. That's really about it.
  14. I'd go with neon. Of course, my hubby just made a big windmill with a motor and some used LEDs for a halo effect on the tail - if I can get a nighttime photo I'll post it.
  15. We really haven't had too much issues, except for some odd light bulbs (weird spot lights on fairly new buildings)that our supplier doesn't carry. We can usually find 'em on the net...
  16. Well, we just got the official word - UL is creating an "online Ul university", and will require at least one person from each UL shop to have passed their certification - this person would have to be onhand at all times. Of couse, it's only $200 per shop for all the employees. That actually seems like a reasonable fee, but their course does not count towards the 24 hours of continuing education our electricians are required to have from WA state, so it's additional to the current requirements for the WA electricians license. There are 13 modules in the curriculum, each is supposed to take about 45 minutes. Self paced, you can start and stop as needed. There will be a competency exam at the end of each module. Link - http://www.uluniversity.us/catalog/display.resource.aspx?resourceid=204520 Exciting, huh?
  17. Great looking set up! We love our Wilkie ladder - too bad we put it on a piece of $##(! truck...
  18. I think we've had to pay for new windshields twice in the last 10 years due to a dropped nut.... we don't work over automobiles, but they love to park right next to our truck when we are at a site. Just like people moving the "caution" tape barriers instead of walking around them. Tools do occasionally disappear, but nothing substantial. We did have a break-in in our compound and some a******* walked away with our old bobcat generator that was on the truck. So now we have a more mobile generator that is smaller and can be locked up. Most of the hand tools are worker owned - they bring their own in. They break 'em, they buy new ones. They take reasonable care of the shop owned tools, so it's really a matter of the tools wearing out more than getting broken from abuse. Neon breakage - it does happen, but not every job, just a "rare occasion" thing. Employees hurt - last year we had one of our installers fall off the truck bed and land on his head on the concrete - mild concussion. That was it - we try to maintain a safe working environment. Overall, our guys do a great job. I think we have an advantage being a small shop, we all know each other and work very well together, and it translates to a bit more concern about the business than a larger workforce might have. At least, that's mho!
  19. I told hubby I'd get him an ipad if he would rototill my garden

  20. I hope the F650 works better for you than ours does.... maybe once you actually get the truck it'll be "worth the wait". I really hope so!
  21. This was really interesting - I acutally learned something! Thanks for the great info, all!
